Taking the tree down!

Elsouth · 25/12/2017 19:28

Is it wrong to consider taking the tree down tomorrow? When is everyone else doing it?? I think last year I did it just after Boxing Day. As the kids get older the presents seem to get bigger and I end up having to rearrange the whole room. Need that tree gone. Does that make me a grinch?

Christmas isn’t “over” after Christmas Day. There are 12 days of Christmas 🎄 laughing at people on here taking their trees down on Christmas Day itself. Tragic and entirely a result of Christmas being rammed down our throats in the shops since October, when the celebration itself doesn’t begin until 255) and lasts til 6 Jan. our treee only went up a couple of days ago!

LucheroTena · 25/12/2017 23:37

No way! I try and get to 12th night if the tree holds onto its needles.

OrinocoDugong · 25/12/2017 23:40

12th night here too. We don't get the tree any earlier than 15th December to ensure it has a decent chance of living till then.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 23:40

What Christmas celebrations do you have on those 12 days? Do you have a turkey roast every day?

CatastropheKate · 25/12/2017 23:42

I really don't get the 'one day' thing - do you not have friends and family visiting during the holidays? Doesn't anyone entertain anymore?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 23:43

No. Not everyone has oodles of friends and family bearing gifts.

pollyx · 25/12/2017 23:44

If I could it have it my way, it would be going down tomorrow, but I think my family would go mental at me if I did this, so we will take it down the 27th. I love the build up of Christmas, but when it’s actually arrived I feel so miserable, and want all Christmas festivities to just stop, along with the disappearance of the tree.

oliveinacampervan · 25/12/2017 23:45

If people are wanting take their Christmas tree and decorations down on Boxing day, they either put them up ridiculously early OR they don't actually give a flying fuck about Christmas and now they have their much longed for presents, Christmas can sod right off..

And anyone who claims they only put them up 4 days ago and is taking them down tomorrow, why the hell even bother putting them up at all? Confused

There is definitely an air of self righteousness from the posters claiming they are taking the decorations down tomorrow or the 27th, like they think they are better than the ones keeping them up til 2nd-6th Jan.

I am not seeing the same smug 'I am better than you' attitude from people keeping them up til January.

noeffingidea · 25/12/2017 23:45

CountFosco no special needs here. I just don't particularly like christmas trees anymore, I don't think they look nice and I no longer get any warm fuzzy feelings about having a tree shaped object with lights and dangly bits standing in the corner of my living room. Neither do my children, it would seem. Thats all there is to it really.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 23:45

😂😂😂

MyOtherProfile · 25/12/2017 23:46

We have family visiting each day from 23 to 28 Dec then friends for new year from 30 Dec. From us Christmas definitely continues until at least 1 Jan so we always keep the tree up. Even the radio times is less than half way through by Christmas day!

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 23:48

That’ll Be me then. I’ve already answered but i’ll Do it again in caps to make it easier for you. MY CHILDREN WANTED A TREE UP FOR SANTA COMING. SANTA CAME. HE ISNT DUE AGAIN FOR ANOTHER YEAR SO THE TREE CAN COME DOWN.

Elsouth · 25/12/2017 23:50

Christmas is all year long to us as DS1 loves to sing jingle bells all 12 months of the year! Then again I sing silent night to DS2 all year long.

I don't actually keep presents under the tree either. It's not that's it about presents being opened and so that means xmas is done. I don't need a tree to feel xmassy. I've still got half a turkey and a tin of chocolates and other little decorations to stay up. I don't know why people find it odd that it really is just a space issue.

I didn't expect such a big response Blush

Again, like I said, mine went up 4 days ago. Hardly ridiculously early. My presents consisted of a bottle of anti ageing cream from my 8 year old. That is it. I really didn’t put a tree up for some moisturiser.

I have no idea why taking my tree down tomorrow would make me self righteous or better than someone who doesn’t. Confused

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 23:52

Seems Christmas is all about the tree and the decorations. Who knew? Grin

noeffingidea · 25/12/2017 23:52

Olive I'm not seeing any smugness or self righteousness from any posters, tbh. I think you're reading too much into things.
No one cares how long you keep your tree up for, other than yourself and your own family.

NotTheFordType · 25/12/2017 23:53

Just to point out, for most people the Christmas HOLIDAYS are 25th and 26th December. Most working folk are back at it 27th. (I'm back on the 26th.) Having the full week off between Xmas and New Year is an unusual privilege.

kitnkaboodle · 25/12/2017 23:53

This thread happens every year. This year for once it seems to be going 'my' way. Very sad imho to take your tree down on Boxing Day. But I would bet that those doijng so ares probably working between now and New Year - while those who keep them up are having a leisurely week off?? Maybe that's the real divide ... . I have the luxury of a week off and like to feel festive all week. Btw no-one i know irl takes the decorations down until after new year

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 25/12/2017 23:54

Apparently so sparkling. I wonder if I put my tree up again in a month will I get more mosturiser? I’m all about the prezzies, me!

YeahRightOk · 25/12/2017 23:54

Here's your coat OP. What's your hurry?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 25/12/2017 23:54

Sparkling to be honest for me it’s about whether I’ve enough tissues in to outlast this bloody cold without having to leave the house to buy more!:o

MyOtherProfile · 25/12/2017 23:55

Is it an unusual privilege? We and most of our friends all have the full week off. And of course the kids have two weeks off.

Elsouth · 25/12/2017 23:55

There is definitely an air of self righteousness from the posters

Is there?!? I don't think I'm better than anyone for it, I think I might have a smaller living room though. Honestly not everything is a competition, just personal preference. It's also easier to sort it when DH is off work all week

Cross posted with Not!

Sparklingbrook · 25/12/2017 23:56

Worth a try Donny. Grin

Incy I have some tissues with Christmas trees on if you want one. And loo roll. Even when the tree comes down Christmas lives on in this house in paper products. Grin
