To have ring fenced the Christmas food?!

Got all the Christmas food yesterday. DH wants to dive straight in and start eating the pate, cheeses, crackers etc. Kids want to open the box of chocolates.

AIBU to want to save the food for Christmas Day onwards? Confused

What's the general view here?!
It just doesn't seem an occasion if by the time 25th rolls around you've eaten all the best stuff to me.

Hmm we started today. Dh is home for Christmas so our Christmas starts now! I think you might as well go for it Grin

We start on Christmas Eve. No clue why then but it feels right for us then.

I’ve been eyeing up the pate every time I open the fridge...

Spartaca · 23/12/2017 15:47

Christmas starts when the food arrives tbh. Which in our house, will be in an hour or so

Lindy2 · 23/12/2017 15:50

We started yesterday. We filled the fridge and freezer with Christmas food and realised there was no room for any normal food in the house so we tucked straight in 😂

MrsJayy · 23/12/2017 15:52

It is just food but i gettit who wants to put out cheese that has been cut or chocolates that are opened Christmas eve is soon enough they can eat it then

MaisyPops · 23/12/2017 15:52

My mother was like you.
'Mam... can we open thr pop?' No it's for Christmas.
'Mam... can we have the cheese/crackers/crisps/twiglets?' No. It's for christmas.
'What about the biscuit box?' No it's for christmas.
'Well what can we have?' Anything out the fruit bowl or some toast, but only use the sliced loaf because the non sliced loaf is for christmas.
Arghhhh! Grin

Somewhere in the middle between diving in whenever and making 90% of the food sacred is probably sensible.

HSMMaCM · 23/12/2017 15:53

I'd normally say Christmas Eve, but as Christmas is a Monday this year, is probably say any time this weekend.

kimlo · 23/12/2017 15:55

I am the keeper of the christmas food. People keep coming and asking if the are allowed to eat things or if the are for christmas. Dd1 and dp have both asked me if they were allowed orange juice or if it was for christmas.

I on the other hand have already eaten a box of celebrations because I have no christmas self control.

Tipsntoes · 23/12/2017 15:57

My mum used to do that and then come Boxing day there's loads of pressure to use everything up. The holiday/occasion has started IMO, so start enjoying it.

Although the actual Christmas Day menu is off limits.

MrsJayy · 23/12/2017 15:57

We are going to mums for dinner Monday niping to supermarket tomorrow for the goodies then we can start munching. I have hidden bottles of lemonade and cola though because they would be straight into it.

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 23/12/2017 16:01

we started on the posh chocolate and mince pies yesterday. The cheeses and the pate wait for Christmas and its lovely indulgent aftermath. Something about waiting for them which makes them taste better....kids aren't fussed about that stuff so are enjoying tucking into chocs.

Whywonttheyletmeusemyusername · 23/12/2017 16:03

I'm with Kimlo. Nobody, and I mean, nobody is allowed to eat the Xmas food, until Xmas day. ...unless it's me, and I fancy a snack beforehand. And then it's eaten under the covers of darkness

cornishmumtobe · 23/12/2017 16:06

Well we must be fatties - we started on the Christmas chocolate on the 1st December Blush some specific things for the meals on Christmas Day are off limits but otherwise we just tuck in - replenish - tuck in - replenish - repeat.

calzone · 23/12/2017 16:09

Today

CrumblyMumbly · 23/12/2017 16:10

I used to have the sacred Christmas Cupboard which was not to be touched before Christmas or else. Trouble is after a huge Christmas roast and lots of rich stuff, you don't really fancy or enjoy any extras. Now we have a few treats before Christmas and we enjoy it much more before the post Christmas guilt kicks in!

PinkHeart5914 · 23/12/2017 16:11

We started today. We are all together so it is the start of our Christmas!

quirkychick · 23/12/2017 16:11

We started on the chocolates and the mulled wine. The cheese (naice cheese as opposed to ordinary sliced) is for Christmas, as are the Italian cold meats, the stuff for Christmas dinner is obviously off limits!

blibblibs · 23/12/2017 16:12

Work and school finished yesterday so Christmas has begun, so help yourself to anything you fancy as long as it's not needed for the main meal.

Gemini69 · 23/12/2017 16:12

in this house.... Christmas Eve is day one of delving in...... Xmas Grin

Enjoy folks Xmas Smile

MiddlingMum · 23/12/2017 16:12

We've had some, but there are some things which are for a specific time or meal so I've labelled them clearly - Do Not Eat Until Sunday - sort of thing.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 23/12/2017 16:13

If your DH is super excited about pate, does he know it exists outside Christmas as well? Grin

SymphonyofShadows · 23/12/2017 16:13

It's Christmas here as far as I'm concerned. Everyone has finished work/broken up, and we have enough for the weekend and the actual Christmas period so all the snack stuff is fair game.

honeyroar · 23/12/2017 16:14

I say let them! It's only two days and you always have more than you need!

meredintofpandiculation · 23/12/2017 16:14

YABU. Christmas dies once Christmas Day is over. You might as well enjoy everything while you're still feeling festive. We've really enjoyed eating 3/4 of the Christmas cake, a slice with each lunch, and mince pies with brandy butter after dinner.
