To have ring fenced the Christmas food?!

Got all the Christmas food yesterday. DH wants to dive straight in and start eating the pate, cheeses, crackers etc. Kids want to open the box of chocolates.

AIBU to want to save the food for Christmas Day onwards? Confused

What's the general view here?!
It just doesn't seem an occasion if by the time 25th rolls around you've eaten all the best stuff to me.

"My mum used to do that and then come Boxing day there's loads of pressure to use everything up."

My dad does that too, and woe betide anyone who had different recollections of what'd been specifically bought for Christmas!

RubyJack · 23/12/2017 16:15

I just cooked our ham which we then enjoyed some slices from :)

Toomanycats99 · 23/12/2017 16:15

I bought loads of pasta salad type stuff to go when the the leftover meat so have banned anyone from eating that!

mummyhaschangedhername · 23/12/2017 16:16

Tonight ... once husband is home and food arrives 😂

Fairyliz · 23/12/2017 16:16

Did the big Christmas shop this morning and all of the veg was really cheap compared to usual. So we are having a healthy day today trying to cram down at least 8 helpings of fruit/veg so we can start on all of the goodies tomorrow.

WhooooAmI24601 · 23/12/2017 16:18

The DCs popped open a tub of Twiglets this morning for breakfast and I hadn't the heart to shout "that's the bloody christmas food" the way my parents would have. It's officially christmas at Whoo's house so we're eating what we like.

TatianaLarina · 23/12/2017 16:20

No chocolates or cake until Christmas Day. Mince pies and mulled wine are all ok beforehand. The cheese arrived yesterday and everyone started on it.

Tomorrow we have drinks and we then get started on the quails eggs and smoked salmon. (So much better than minced pies!)

Floralnomad · 23/12/2017 16:20

I don’t care , I’m sticking to my no snacking rules that I currently have and the rest of them can do as they please , if it’s here you can eat it . We have people coming to dinner tonight and then have a buffet running tomorrow so it will be started tonight at the latest .

gingerclementine · 23/12/2017 16:22

I'd let them start. I love eating Christmas treats during advent, because it's such a busy time and it gets the christmassy mood going. But as soon as Boxing Day is over I have an urge to move onto carrot juice and kale Wink. I hate loads of lovely Christmas food going stale because it's been kept for opening when you're already stuffed to the gills with turkey. We started the Christmas Cake yesterday and it's already half gone. but if we'd saved it until Boxing Day we'd still have some left in June.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 23/12/2017 16:23

Well....all the people advising OP to start now. She mentions "the box of chocolates"

If she lets them eat it all now, there;ll be none for actual Christmas will there!?

OP....make them wait till' at least Christmas Eve.

Ragwort · 23/12/2017 16:24

I've already finished my special Bendicks chocolates and cheese footballs Grin (and didn't share) - better stock up on some more !

ElephantsandTigers · 23/12/2017 16:27

I've told everyone to ask before they eat anything in case it's for Christmas Day. Sarcastic 14 year old said she was sure they all knew what to leave and that they weren't going to say, oh I know, 8 fancy roast turkey for breakfast HmmGrin.

IHaveACuntingPlan · 23/12/2017 16:28

I have replaced the mince pies and the biscuits several times because we keep eating them but the actual Xmas food (the meat, yorks puds, cake, mash and all the rest) has been saved ready for Monday. I don't know what we're eating tomorrow or the rest of the week though Grin

ferntwist · 23/12/2017 16:31

Ah let them start enjoying themselves now! It’s Christmas.

squiglet111 · 23/12/2017 16:31

We have started eating what we want from Xmas stash. My mum does the whole 'its for Xmas day'. Then come Xmas day and it's 'don't eat all that it will ruin dinner'...after Xmas dinner you don't feel like eating much else... This ends in my mum complaining that there is so much food left through the whole of Jan and end up getting chucked! Xmas in my house started yesterday!

metalmum15 · 23/12/2017 16:34

Every day is chocolate and biscuits day in our house. ... We're already at the end of the first tub of Celebrations. As long as the meat and potatoes are left for Christmas day anything else can be eaten. By Boxing day all I usually want is fruit and cereal anyway!

Tipsntoes · 23/12/2017 16:38

I don't understand saving the chocs for Christmas Day, no-one wants them on Christmas Day

diddl · 23/12/2017 16:41

Only stuff here that can't be eaten until the allotted time is the meal contents.

Anything else, I don't care.

Just leave me the alcohol!

KrisCringleWinterWonderland · 23/12/2017 16:47

Tomorrow here.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 23/12/2017 16:50

You cant be serious OP, you need food not just for the day itself but the whole holiday period.

WorraLiberty · 23/12/2017 16:55

Christmas Eve here, although I opened the posh biscuits this afternoon as we had guests Xmas Grin

ilovesushi · 23/12/2017 16:57

My dad used to take this to extremes. There would be these mountains of Christmas goodies but we weren't allowed any of it until Christmas Day. Then there would be way too much stuff to get through and complaints about no one eating the stollen/ xmas biscuits/ stilton/ turkish delight/ fancy stuffed olives/ panettone/ gigantic ham etc. Clearly don't let your family ruin your meal plans for the next few days but start tucking in now I say!

Allthewaves · 23/12/2017 16:57

We are starting tonight then free for all tom

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 23/12/2017 16:58

Haud well not everyone's got the budget for that! Hmm There's no "need" in it. OP might only be able to afford a little of everything.

Ironfloor · 23/12/2017 17:01

Errm, I’ve been buying and eating Christmas cake every week since Aldi started selling them (early December). Blush
