To tell DH that I'm sticking to my plan?

For Christmas it's DH, Me, DD (2) and DHs best friend. We've done it this way since DD was born as family live close enough to visit on the day and it saves the arguments between DM and MIL over whose turn it is to host us (they don't get on or like each other much - had to be kept separate at our wedding) plus it means DHs BF who has no family locally has somewhere to go for Christmas.

Ask DH what he wanted for Christmas lunch in October, so I could order etc. He said he didn't fancy Turkey and as I'm not bothered and neither is his BF I decided to get a large chicken instead.

Just doing the Veg shop for Christmas dinner with DD and DH texts me to say he actually wants Turkey so could I try and get one as he really wants it Angry

I want to swing for him right now, it's 3 days to Christmas. Had he told me even a few weeks ago I could of got one but theres no chance now. Oddly enough both Tesco and Morrisons haven't got any left Hmm

So WIBU to tell him to do one? Or just starve the bastard on Monday and enjoy my Chicken anyway?

I can't believe everywhere is sold out of turkeys! It's only 22 December!

fluffiphlox · 22/12/2017 14:59

The latter.

JW13 · 22/12/2017 15:00

You would be totally reasonable to starve him.

Chicken is like a tastier, less dry turkey. I refuse to cook turkey for that very reason.

Stick with chicken!

19lottie82 · 22/12/2017 15:00

Just tell him the chicken is turkey.

StormTreader · 22/12/2017 15:00

"DH texts me to say he actually wants Turkey "

Tell him hes very welcome to get a turkey if thats now what he wants.

ny20005 · 22/12/2017 15:00

If he wants one, he can find one 😜

welshweasel · 22/12/2017 15:01

They had them in Aldi, Tesco and M&S in my town today. Tell him to go and buy one himself if he’s bothered!

LannieDuck · 22/12/2017 15:01

Just tell him to get it?

EveryoneIs · 22/12/2017 15:02

He's at work atm that's why he text me knowing I was doing the shop, doesn't finish work until 7.

I'm surprised they're all sold out. There were loads in Asda and Aldi last Xmas eve, but if they are sold out where you're shopping then it's tough luck. He can eat the delicious chicken instead.

pandarific · 22/12/2017 15:04

Well he can go out tomorrow can’t he? After all you’ve checked two places no go.

Let him sort it, be calm unruffled and unconcerned.

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 22/12/2017 15:06

There were loads in my local Sainsbury's yesterday. I am always in waitrose during the afternoon of Christmas Eve for their bargains - incredibly good discounts on turkeys, party food etc.

Emily7708 · 22/12/2017 15:07

Tell him you’ve swapped the chicken for a turkey as requested, he won’t notice the difference on the day and you can secretly laugh at his foolishness.

Shadow666 · 22/12/2017 15:07

Just text back “Sorry, sold out”

It’s fate. The gods have spoken. So be it.

BusyBeez99 · 22/12/2017 15:07

Loads in Sainsbury's yesterday

PinkHeart5914 · 22/12/2017 15:08

If I was going to shop anyway I would pick a turkey up (as if dh was shoppping he’d pick up anything I asked for) I wouldn’t however make a trip to the shop if I wasn’t going.

Just get a small turkey crown. Then you can eat the chicken and he can have the turkey and deal with the left overs.

LuxuryWoman2017 · 22/12/2017 15:09

Loads in sainsbury today too so he can grab one after work.

Capelin · 22/12/2017 15:11

Agree, say you haven’t found one but he is welcome to look around.

HotelEuphoria · 22/12/2017 15:13

Oddly enough both Tesco and Morrisons haven't got any left hmm

No way! DS used to work at Tesco until not so long ago, they used to start reducing all the leftovers on Christmas Eve at around 11 AM.

I suspect they haven't even put most of them out yet!

EveryoneIs · 22/12/2017 15:14

Left overs aren't a worry, there will be left overs from the chicken, we have a cat who will happily eat a bit of cold chicken.

He's working tomorrow and Sunday as well, he's in retail (management but not a food store).

Would he even know the difference?
I'm sure you could get a frozen one?
It would be defrosted by Monday?

liquidrevolution · 22/12/2017 15:16

Buy him a microwave turkey meal for one and the rest of you can enjoy a lovely chicken.

I may have eaten 70% of a rotisserie chicken yesterday Blush

fannythrobbing · 22/12/2017 15:16

Have my first LTB Xmas Grin
My opinion is definitely coloured by the following anecdote:
I see your late turkey request and raise you a MIL who insisted on doing Christmas at her place (I'm 6m pregnant and have a 1y/o and requested in August that we go out for dinner this year instead of me doing it all she refused insisting she'd do it at hers). One day ago she phoned "oh I'm working now, we'll do Christmas at yours..."
Thankfully I expected her cheeky fuckery so I've already ordered everything way back in October and have taken it in my stride.

As I'm annoyed I wasn't more awkward I strongly suggest you cook your chicken and if your husband kicks off tell him to starve or just leave him (both totally reasonable in my eyes!)

humblesims · 22/12/2017 15:18

Doesnt seem like a massive ask? Supermarkets are full of frozen turkeys.

Namechangetempissue · 22/12/2017 15:19

Just tell him he is welcome to pick one up on the way home and cook it himself if he really wants one.
