To tell DH that I'm sticking to my plan?

For Christmas it's DH, Me, DD (2) and DHs best friend. We've done it this way since DD was born as family live close enough to visit on the day and it saves the arguments between DM and MIL over whose turn it is to host us (they don't get on or like each other much - had to be kept separate at our wedding) plus it means DHs BF who has no family locally has somewhere to go for Christmas.

Ask DH what he wanted for Christmas lunch in October, so I could order etc. He said he didn't fancy Turkey and as I'm not bothered and neither is his BF I decided to get a large chicken instead.

Just doing the Veg shop for Christmas dinner with DD and DH texts me to say he actually wants Turkey so could I try and get one as he really wants it Angry

I want to swing for him right now, it's 3 days to Christmas. Had he told me even a few weeks ago I could of got one but theres no chance now. Oddly enough both Tesco and Morrisons haven't got any left Hmm

So WIBU to tell him to do one? Or just starve the bastard on Monday and enjoy my Chicken anyway?

Fanny - your MIL sprung Xmas on you on the 21st Dec? Shock That is CF-very at its finest.

The shops in town here were full of fresh turkeys an hour ago.
The shelves were so full I wondered what they were going to do with them all.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 22/12/2017 15:39

Tell him to pick one up himself. If he doesn't want to, tough tit, he's eating chicken.

TheSnorkMaidenReturns · 22/12/2017 15:42

I''ve just come back from my local Sainsbury's and there were plenty of turkeys there.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 22/12/2017 15:44

Why should the OP have to battle the shops again to pick up a turkey?

If he has changed his mind, he goes and gets one.

CurryWorst · 22/12/2017 15:45

I was shopping today and you couldn't move for Turkeys. But tell him if he wants one he can get one. And cook it as well.

Sunshinegirl82 · 22/12/2017 15:47

Is turkey the sort of thing people suddenly decide they really really want? I'd always assumed it was one of those means people were pretty ambivalent about!

fannythrobbing · 22/12/2017 15:49

@underthebluemoon she did. Once upon a time I'd have been surprised but it's just par for the course now and sadly not the worst thing she's said or done since my daughter arrived - I happily keep her at arm's length these days! (We won't be doing Christmas again next year and won't be giving her the option to host either!)

Berthatydfil · 22/12/2017 15:50

He is totalky bu, don’t they have late night opening / 24hr supermarkets near you?
I would be telling him if he wants turkey he can go and get one.

honeyroar · 22/12/2017 15:51

If I was in the supermarket and could afford it I'd get one. The chicken can be frozen. I change my mind about things from time to time! And who wouldn't notice the difference between a turkey and a chicken! The size makes it obvious, surely?

TerracottaAmy · 22/12/2017 15:51

doesn't finish work until 7

Oh well, tough on him then

ArchchancellorsHat · 22/12/2017 15:51

The Aldi by me had turkey crowns this afternoon. Don't know about whole ones though. Feel free to send him out to find one, if you're already finished the veg shopping.

DesertIslandPenguin · 22/12/2017 15:52

I'd be pissed off, but there were plenty turkeys (fresh and frozen) in Sainsbury's and Waitrose.

nutnerk · 22/12/2017 15:53

Could you just get a turkey crown or one thats pre-rolled with stuffing etc from Marks so you don't have loads of extra? Easier to cook alongside your chicken and not too much left over. CF though!!!

EveryoneIs · 22/12/2017 15:55

Chicken has been frozen already, got it out of the freezer to defrost yesterday so it can't go back in the freezer

I bet your nearest supermarket will have more turkeys on the shelves by the time he finishes work at 7.00 this evening. Why the drama? Just ask him to call on his way home and pick one up.

Though if you took it out to defrost yesterday, presumably you will be cooking it this evening or tomorrow morning at the latest. Isn't that a bit early for Christmas lunch?!

MonumentalAlabaster · 22/12/2017 16:16

My DH always shops for/cooks Christmas lunch and he is so relaxed he never pre-orders anything - he rocks up to Tesco the day before and always says there are plenty of turkeys

ElephantsandTigers · 22/12/2017 16:21

I would try and get one. If your turkey is dry then you're cooking it wrong.

I have been in several shops and all still have plenty of turkeys in.

dementedpixie · 22/12/2017 16:26

Of course they haven't sold out! They're probably just starting to put them out. Dh is getting is ours on saturday

mumoseven · 22/12/2017 16:27

I like chicken better anyway, turkey has loads of nasty looking bits. Cook 2 nice big chickens so there's plenty of lovely breast meat.
I'm having beef this year.

dementedpixie · 22/12/2017 16:27

Why is your chicken out already if its for Christmas day?

morningconstitutional2017 · 22/12/2017 16:28

I'd be annoyed. Surely, chicken is tastier than turkey anyway? I'd point that out to him in plain English (or Anglo-Saxon if you prefer).

Kewcumber · 22/12/2017 16:28

He wants a turkey for 3.5 people?!

Get a turkey crown for New Year and stick with your Christmas plans
