Veiled insult, faux pas or not a big deal?

Came across this article in the Mirror just now (Sorry, it's another Meghan one) where she says Prince Michael of Kent wore a 'racist' brooch when meeting her.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/meghan-markle-greeted-racist-jewellery-11736477

General consensus from the comments suggest she knew exactly what she was doing. I don't know anything about her to know if it's suspect but it seems an odd thing to own let alone wear in public. What's the jury?

Also, is Michael an actual name for a woman, I've never heard of it before

OP posts:

I do laugh at hints that she might not have known! As I said upthread, as she looks through her jewellery box for a brooch, she picks up the one of a bejewelled black faced servant and thinks 'oh, let's wear that one, that'll make Meghan feel right at home' . She knew its connotations alright. The royal family in general aren't that stupid. Look at the path the Queen has trod for decades without putting a foot wrong, it's ingrained in them, they have advisors, they know what they're doing. This was choice

Roussette · 23/12/2017 07:52

p.s. forgetting what message that brooch gives out, it's an ugly looking thing anyway, very unattractive.

Stupid woman, this won't be forgotten and will end up in her obituary.

GingerbreadMa · 23/12/2017 07:55

Apparently she had worn it many times before "without controversy"
Thats a dig not an apology!

StilettosAreANoNo · 23/12/2017 07:58

I don’t believe anyone would wear that and think it wouldn’t make an impact or statement of some sort. Its horrible.

So as Rousette says it must have been a choice.

JamieFrasersArse · 23/12/2017 08:03

How have I displayed any bigotry by asking a question that begins from no standpoint other than requesting the argument behind statements here?

You have form for showing up on threads about racism and demanding that everyone provides evidence of why something is racist rather than bothering to think about it critically yourself. Which is pretty much a hallmark of a racist gf.

As mentioned by a PP, there's a very good post about why the brooch is racist on about page 10 of this thread so maybe read that?

Battleax · 23/12/2017 08:06

Yes, it was undoubtedly a very calculated choice.

I wouldn't mind betting she transferred it from the coat to her dress and back either.

But notions that she'll be upset to be criticised or to be excluded from events, or that she's in HMQ's "close circle", are wife of the Mark, I think.

She's quite fixed in her bigoted views and just doesn't care about the reaction (unless it causes quantifiable disadvantage to her purse or her children, which it might). The Queen has kept her at arm's length for decades anyway.

Roussette · 23/12/2017 08:20

Also hilarious that Flowerpot is demanding we justify or explain why we all think it is a racist act. I can only presume she's been living on Mars to not know why. Although she bans us from using Google, perhaps she could?

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/12/2017 08:28

Rousette, between that and today's blacking up thread I really do wonder what MN is coming to! Sad

Roussette · 23/12/2017 08:42

There's a lot of ignorance around Queen!

Soozikinzii · 23/12/2017 08:54

I saw the pictures of the brooch on Twitter and the apology thing but I didn't realise she was meeting Meghan when she wore it ! That's truly shocking and awful and deliberate ! What a bitch!

DivisionBelle · 23/12/2017 08:56

Bloody Hell, tne poor people of Kent!

Can they petition to have her re-branded?

DivisionBelle · 23/12/2017 09:00

It is a nasty brooch at any time. That should have been highlighted every other time she has worn it, if it is true that she has worn it for years.

If it was tasteless (at best) to wear when MM was present, it was tasteless (racist) when she wasn’t.

Battleax · 23/12/2017 09:04

if it is true that she has worn it for years.

Nobody would know because she undertakes sod all in the way of public engagements (although I can well believe the bike woman has equally vile friends who wouldn't comment on it).

Battleax · 23/12/2017 09:05

Vile woman^

ohamIreally · 23/12/2017 09:05

Flowerpot is a racist sea lion. Can I also add Michael Burnham from the brilliant new Star Trek is a woman?

Battleax · 23/12/2017 09:09

A racist sea lion?

Battleax · 23/12/2017 09:59

Ah! Thanks.

IncidentalAnarchist · 23/12/2017 10:01

Erm who is princess Alexandra??

juliesaway · 23/12/2017 10:04

Maybe she thought it would make Meghan feel at home as if she was identifying with her in some way ? Either way misguided.

gamerwidow · 23/12/2017 10:04

Princess Michael’s always been a a nasty piece of work and it looks like she hasn’t mellowed with age!
No way she wore that ugly for any reason other than to cause offence.

LemonShark · 23/12/2017 10:13

juliesaway Was that sarcastic? At home?

QueenOfTheAndals · 23/12/2017 10:14

who is princess Alexandra??

QEII's first cousin - duster to the Duke of Kent and Prince Michael. Also rumoured to have had an affair with prince Philip back in the day!

trollopolis · 23/12/2017 10:39

Sniggering slightly at the thread title.

Because it's really not a veiled insult is it? It's an utterly blatant one.
