Came across this article in the Mirror just now (Sorry, it's another Meghan one) where she says Prince Michael of Kent wore a 'racist' brooch when meeting her.

www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/meghan-markle-greeted-racist-jewellery-11736477

General consensus from the comments suggest she knew exactly what she was doing. I don't know anything about her to know if it's suspect but it seems an odd thing to own let alone wear in public. What's the jury?

Also, is Michael an actual name for a woman, I've never heard of it before

@AdiosPeaceOfRoast Id rather be intellectually challenged then and actually question what’s written in the media. However ghastly I believe someone to be I won’t allow myself to be swept along with what is written about them as I don’t believe everything in the press is always without a slant

kooshbin · 22/12/2017 21:24

As someone upthread pointed out, the brooch didn't go with her earrings. Which makes it seem even more a deliberate choice. It was a "statement" piece of jewellery. She might be ignorant, but she's not stupid. She made her statement very obvious by making sure it wasn't covered by her seatbelt.

I don't have much time for the royal family, but this blatant behaviour has really riled me. Harry will need to step up to protect Meghan from some of her batty in-laws.

LaurieMarlow · 22/12/2017 21:28

Of course it was the same lunch. It's a shindig the queen hosts every year before disappearing to sandringham.

ImtheChristmasCarcass · 22/12/2017 21:44

You know, at this point I'm not sure if she did it to insult Meghan, or just to get media attention. As PT Barnum said "There is no such thing as bad publicity" and Princess Pushy does seem to love to see her name and photo in the press.

I’ve little interest in what has been written and am drawing my conclusion from prior knowledge and the photograph of her wearing the brooch in question.

kooshbin · 22/12/2017 23:29

I don't recall any positive reporting about Princess Michael, even from a scan of the usual sycophantic media. Does she actually carry out any "royal" duties?

runningoutofjuice · 22/12/2017 23:29

From the Metro reporting the 'apology' - 'Ms Markle was not sitting at the same table as Princess Margaret at the meal, the Daily Mail reported.'

Which was lucky as she's been dead 15 years....

Flowerpot1234 · 22/12/2017 23:53

Late to this discussion, and apologies if I have missed it in any of the 11 pages before, but I haven't yet seen any explanation of why wearing this brooch is racist. Could someone who believes it is explain why?

I am no fan of Princess Michael at all, but is anyone able to go beyond a generalised unacceptability argument to something which rationally explains why the wearing of this brooch means the wearer is racist?

JamieFrasersArse · 22/12/2017 23:57

Google the term "blackamoor" and try to figure it out. It's much like golliwog and if you need an explanation of why that's racist then keep googling.

Roussette · 22/12/2017 23:59

I have (or did have) 4 golliwog brooches that were given away decades ago with Robertsons Jam. No idea where they are but I know they're somewhere in this house. It's like wearing one of those Flowerpot

Flowerpot1234 · 22/12/2017 23:59

P.S. I should have added, beyond the usual "google the term and you'll find out" unhelpful and uninformative response. Is any poster capable of explaining?

Viviennemary · 22/12/2017 23:59

I'd say all this fuss is far more embarrassing for MM than any brooch. It's now all over tomorrows papers. Haven't the press done a good job of not offending somebody. Confused

VladmirsPoutine · 22/12/2017 23:59

Here we fucking go. Bloody tedious.

JamieFrasersArse · 23/12/2017 00:10

If you're too ignorant to figure out why something is racist then research it yourself and don't expect us to do the work for you.

Quite chuffed that we managed to get to page 11 before the usual racist gf joined us though!

Youcanstayundermyumbrella · 23/12/2017 00:13

I know several people who have personal experience of Princess Michael and her husband, not just passing experience either, and they are not a pleasant pair by their accounts.

Flowerpot1234 · 23/12/2017 00:16

PPS. Should have also added before the usual "if you're too ignorant to figure it out then don't expect us to explain it" avoiding response.

Surely if one believes it is racist, one must be able to articulate why politely, without resorting to awful insults and assumptions about other posters.

Who are these posters demonstrating they are not capable and they have no rational argument behind their outrage? That would surely be a very intellectually poor and ignorant position for them to be in.

frieda909 · 23/12/2017 00:18

Flowerpot I think LemonShark did quite a good job just a few posts back, on page 10.

Battleax · 23/12/2017 00:20

I was wondering where the thread about this was Smile

Deliberate, of course. Bigoted old witch.

MN Resident Racist Goady Fucker in chief, bestowing us with their usual charm, sharp wit and incisive wisdom. Well knock me down with a feather!

Meowstro · 23/12/2017 00:21

Viviennemary How is that so? Racists need to be named and shamed, why is that to MM's embarrassment?

I'm genuinely not sure if she meant to offend or stupidly thought that it would be something that showed "culture" somehow without knowing much about it's history Hmm but reading about her past I'm inclined to think the former.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 23/12/2017 00:22

Princess Michael of Kent has been in her close circle for years and I'd die of shock if this harmed the relationship.

Sorry that's bullshit. It's very well known the Royal family all fucking despise her.

JamieFrasersArse · 23/12/2017 00:23

Oh I can articulate it all right, I just don't see that I owe it to you as you seem quite bigoted. Would you also like an explanation of why golliwogs, swastikas and white hoods are racist?

Flowerpot1234 · 23/12/2017 00:29

Please, go ahead. The floor is yours.

I just don't see that I owe it to you
I haven't said you owe it to me. I have invited you to go beyond "it's racist", to explain why. It's usually quite a basic factor in discussions about any topics.

as you seem quite bigoted.
How have I displayed any bigotry by asking a question that begins from no standpoint other than requesting the argument behind statements here?

Would you also like an explanation of why golliwogs, swastikas and white hoods are racist?
No thanks, I'm keeping to the thread.

Sorry, what is this position and how does one apply?

Because Megan is mixed race and it's a derogatory depiction of black people.

It's like If Prince William turned up to a Man City v Arsenal FA cup final in an Arsenal top. Rude, snide and a bit cunty.
