That it’s a bit weird when men post on this forum?

I get the times where a male might use Mumsnet for some female perspective on things like relationship problems. But I find it weird when men post on random topics. For example there was one about chocolate bars recently and a man was on there talking about what he likes and what his wife likes. Is there not a male equivalent forum?

YABU OP

Do you think threads like this one are weird?

but are actually just here to have a platform to tell women why they're wrong and push their own agendas. Or to sneer at the fluffier threads and how silly and vapid women are, while ignoring everything serious.

I see plenty of posters who are women (or say they are woman) who do exactly this too.

YABU.

Why do you think they shouldn't post about stuff like chocolate bars?

Goosegrass · 22/12/2017 10:00

It's the 'hello ladies, hope you don't mind a bloke joining in for a minute' type nonsense I think we can all do without.

JacquesHammer · 22/12/2017 10:01

I think it's a pity there aren't more sites/forums/services available for men

It's called the internet...

Nousernameforme · 22/12/2017 10:01

She said she found it weird not that she hates all men and that they should be banned. Projecting much, yikes.

Tbh i don't care who posts, the name could be changed so it was seen as more inclusive, but i don't think people are too fussed about it.

PurpleDaisies · 22/12/2017 10:01

Please don't upset PigletJohn, we would be totally lost without him!

Would we? Don’t get me wrong, PigletJohn is helpful but there are usually other posters giving exactly the same advice as him on threads about DIY and boilers etc.

PhilODox · 22/12/2017 10:01

This is a discussion forum, what prevents men from discussing things? Confused
Yes, it would be odd if a man was trying to contribute to a discussion about bf, but chocolate? Really? And surely the multiple threads about what to get DHs/FILs for Christmas, or why a DH doesn't spot the bin needs emptying, cuts to local services, or what type of socks don't get holes in... how can men not contribute to these?

MakeUpMyRoom · 22/12/2017 10:02

Trills JacquesHammer

Do you see the irony in saying women are bogged down with wifework while replying to me when I mentioned threads discussing a nappy advert and flushing a toilet at night time. They are frivolous and pointless and anyone discussing them clearly isn't bogged down with anything.

The sports I play and a couple of other forums I use are mostly used by men. Of course a lot of what they talk about is frivolous but it's noticeably less catty and certainly not as inane or hysterical as many threads on AIBU. I do see AIBU as an anomaly on MN. Other parts like education or SEN are helpful, kind and full of 'normal' people.

TheRottweiler · 22/12/2017 10:03

otherdoor

T'was a male midwife that delivered my friends DD.

He would be more entitled to reply on a childbirth post than you.

JacquesHammer · 22/12/2017 10:06

@MakeUpMyRoom

It was the "men have better things to do" nonsense. They have better things to do because women are the ones cleaning up after them and sorting the nappies etc etc

JacquesHammer · 22/12/2017 10:06

hysterical

Misogyny bingo!

Oh God, I used to be one of those “most of my friends are men, I find groups of women so catty and passive-aggressive and vapid” types myself.

bbcessex · 22/12/2017 10:12

If it seems odd it's because of the MumsNet site name.

No way should MumsNet rebrand but perhaps add a 'for everyone' strapline to it

laudanum · 22/12/2017 10:14

OH NOES IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!

ThymeLord · 22/12/2017 10:17

You don't like women very much do you MakeUp.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 22/12/2017 10:19

feminism really is turning into man-hating unless you’re just stuck so far behind in the stone ages where men shouldn’t go near the ladies for fear of offending them.

How do you know OP is a feminist? Or do you just brand anything a woman does that you don’t like as feminist because you don’t have the capacity to think logically?

I’m a feminist and I like men being on this forum. Go educate yourself.

cherrycola2004 · 22/12/2017 10:22

i'm on a football forum which is 95% men, they have no problem with me being a member and posting. like i have no problem with men posting here. should we remove non mums too?

nakedscientist · 22/12/2017 10:22

IamSparticusthegardener
How canI tell if you are a man or a woman from your username?
Can you tell from mine?

maddiemookins16mum · 22/12/2017 10:23

Do you think the same about childless/free posters?

RandomDreams · 22/12/2017 10:23

I don't mind men posting here as long as they don't think that their opinion overrides every other poster's, however plenty of women posters think their opinions override everyone else's too so I don't think it's a problem exclusive to male posters..

What pisses me off though is that every time someone posts something that someone else doesn't agree with they are told that they must be a man, the same goes for trolls, they are declared to be men.

Women can be dick's as well y'know?

StrawBasket · 22/12/2017 10:24

If it seems odd it's because of the MumsNet site name

Possibly, but in this case, I would find it weirder to have non-parents than having dads on here.

But no, I still find it weird that the OP finds it weird.

MadamMinacious · 22/12/2017 10:26

Ffs feminism really is turning into man-hating

What on earth has the OP got to do with feminism? It's not about chocolate bars you know.
