To think Poundland ad is not “genius” and is actually a bit I appropriate?

Most comments on Facebook are proclaiming it “genius.” I don’t think a sexual innuendo is that genius TBF.

Plus why is it a woman lying on her back with a t shirt saying “power” and a man standing over her dominating her. They could have at least chosen another sexual innuendo.

Also difficult to explain to kids.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

It looked at first glance to someone beating up a women on the floor with a teabag. And giving her lumps

It's not genius. And good for Twinings for calling them out.

LloydSpinjago · 21/12/2017 18:45

As far as I can see its "funny" because its an image of a female (doll) wearing a feminist slogan being sexually degraded by a male (doll). Merry Misogynistic Christmas!

I can't believe you're assuming their gender. Bigot.

IamalsoSpartacus · 21/12/2017 18:47

Trying to think of some positive images to tweet instead.

LloydSpinjago · 21/12/2017 18:47

Can't believe im discussing a doll but ffs lying on her back, she looks drugged.

It's a fucking doll, how animated are you expecting it to be?

PumpkinSquash · 21/12/2017 18:48

Maybe as animated as the male figure? Or even as happy?

VladmirsPoutine · 21/12/2017 18:52

I can't believe 2 posters are earnestly talking about the consent or otherwise of a plastic doll. What fresh hell is this!?

Blerg · 21/12/2017 18:54

It’s an uncomfortable image in these times. I’m surprised they are standing by it. I won’t be going there again, though I think our local is Poundworld not Land, will have to check,

MrsFezziwig · 21/12/2017 18:55

Are these ads covered by the Advertising Standards Commission, or is it ok because they’re on the internet?

BarbarianMum · 21/12/2017 18:56

This is a world where the sexual degradation and abuse of women is endemic. And stupid as it sounds when discussing plastic dolls, I think this stuff really matters.

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 21/12/2017 19:00

Only the terminally thick would think this is funny.

NotAgainYoda · 21/12/2017 19:02

I don't think it's ridiculous to discuss the 'consent' or otherwise of the dolls

The male doll is animated and gleeful. The female doll is not. One of them is the object and one is the subject.

Remind you of anything?

thecatsarecrazy · 21/12/2017 19:05

I work for poundland and think its embarrassing. I like a joke but i don't find any of it funny

k2p2k2tog · 21/12/2017 19:07

It appears that Poundland have removed the tweet.

BertrandRussell · 21/12/2017 19:08

"I can't believe 2 posters are earnestly talking about the consent or otherwise of a plastic doll. What fresh hell is this!?"

I can only assume you are pretending not to understand. Nobody could possibly be that thick.

k2p2k2tog · 21/12/2017 19:08

Ah no they haven't.

They've just photoshopped out the Twinings.

Probably after a furious phonecall from the Twinings' lagel team.

GrooovyLass · 21/12/2017 19:09

I have a filthy sense of humour and can make a rude joke out of most things. This, however, isn't funny. It's another example of society becoming more and more sexualised. Plus it and the other examples that pp have posted have horrific misogynistic overtones. The sort of thing I'd expect to have been in Loaded magazine in the bad old days.

peepholepringle · 21/12/2017 19:11

I don't care if I'm a prude but this is fucking.

peepholepringle · 21/12/2017 19:11

Awful! Fucking awful Hmm

LloydSpinjago · 21/12/2017 19:13

I hate to break it to you, but shock/horror neither doll is consenting. Because they're dolls. They've been placed there. (Because they're dolls.) They didn't choose that pose. (Because they're dolls.)

The male doll is animated and gleeful
Because he's been made in the factory like that. Because it's a doll.

the female doll is not
How can you tell? There's a fucking tea bag on her face.

BarbarianMum · 21/12/2017 19:15

Bertrand there's always one.

Hmm Yup, thanks for that Bert very rational and respectful approach to a discussion you're pursuing there.

Amanduh · 21/12/2017 19:17

I'm not a prude and would usually say oh give over it's a JOKE but.. it's just really inappropriate for advertising. So so innapropriate. And not for consent/etc etc reading in to things but it's just not suitable for a high street shop. At all.

AccidentallyRunToWindsor · 21/12/2017 19:18

Facebook is full of people saying that 'itz just a bit of fun innit' 😒
