To think Poundland ad is not “genius” and is actually a bit I appropriate?

Most comments on Facebook are proclaiming it “genius.” I don’t think a sexual innuendo is that genius TBF.

Plus why is it a woman lying on her back with a t shirt saying “power” and a man standing over her dominating her. They could have at least chosen another sexual innuendo.

Also difficult to explain to kids.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

I thought it was hilarious.Brew

VladmirsPoutine · 22/12/2017 00:29

It’s because we aren’t allowed to target minority groups in these sorts of things but it’s entirely ok to target women.

@Originalfoogirl yes you're right. Minorities are exactly that... minorities. It's not the same.

Beltane18 · 22/12/2017 00:29

Maybe you're massively behind the times, Pumpkin, age and parent/non parent being totally irrelevant

Do you have DVDs of Benny Hill?

PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 00:29

I thought it was hilarious

Shush. You're not allowed to find it funny.

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 22/12/2017 00:31

I've just been and looked at the rest of the photos on their FB page. I actually think it's appalling! Misogynistic and uncalled for in a company that caters for all ages.

I'm no prude (believe me!) but I think these photos are quite horrible and insulting.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 22/12/2017 00:32

I wrote a massive long post about me knowing about how marketing and retail works and you bring naive, etc, etc, etc.

But that's all piss in the wind and I got bored writing it and gave up.

I can absolutely guarantee you: this time next year every person involved in this campaign will have a better job and have made their name in marketing.

Tessliketrees · 22/12/2017 00:34

What a shame.

That's not the Brexit spirit!

SlimDogMillionaire · 22/12/2017 00:36

Fucking disgraceful

Completely with you on this one, it's not the original tweet that's the funny bit. That was try hard and scroll on by. The utter outraged though is what's made it spiral and made it so funny! I'm on Twitter too and some of the responses are hilarious.
Marketing genius, and the more the outraged protest the funnier it becomes.

Beltane18 · 22/12/2017 00:37

Elton "I can absolutely guarantee you: this time next year every person involved in this campaign will have a better job and have made their name in marketing"

I think it's fair to say most of us know that.

Tessliketrees · 22/12/2017 00:40

I can't believe somebody had the gall to accuse you of parroting!

You keep it so fresh.

PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 00:41

Confused OK.
PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 00:42

Tess
You're aware people think differently to you, right? Why is it parroting just because we don't agree with you?

PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 00:44

I could say a lot of people on here are parroting each other as they think the same.
Except I don't, as I'm aware we're not all one big mass who has to think the same and we all have our own minds.

Originalfoogirl · 22/12/2017 00:48

You're making it the joke. It's like the Mary Whitehouse and Outraged From Tunbridge Wells in the 90s and Points Of View all over again but in digital form.

As I said, it’s hilarious anyone thinks the Digital Marketing manager is smart enough to think it to that level.

Minorities are exactly that... minorities. It's not the same

Actually, when you take five key cultural and social factors about people, you’ll find that every single person is a Minority.

But that aside, so, in areas where there are, larger numbers of, say, Asian people, it becomes ok to make a joke about them because they are not “a minority”? So picking on and degrading women is ok, because there are more of them than there are of other groups? Seriously?

PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 00:49

As I said, it’s hilarious anyone thinks the Digital Marketing manager is smart enough to think it to that level.

Crack on with your thinking, it's going to make it spiral and make it more viral and more publicity.

Tessliketrees · 22/12/2017 00:50

Why is it parroting just because we don't agree with you?

No, it's parroting because you have repeated the same phrase over and over again adding little to nothing.

Hope that helps etc.

Originalfoogirl · 22/12/2017 00:50

"I can absolutely guarantee you: this time next year every person involved in this campaign will have a better job and have made their name in marketing"

Nope. Not with the utter drivel they have posted on their twitter for the rest of the year.

And, most reputable companies would not touch this with a barge pole. At best they’ll be with Sports Direct.

Originalfoogirl · 22/12/2017 00:53

Crack on with your thinking

Crack on with yours. It appeals to a very low base. This will not bring them new custom and certainly won’t save the company from their financial woes. Storm in a tea-cup and by Boxing Day when the elf fucks off they will be back to “here’s some shit you can buy for a pound”

powershowerforanhour · 22/12/2017 00:53

Feminist Barbie made to STFU by teabagging her...TOP BANTZ!!!!!

B+M bargains is a better shop anyway.

Are you on Twitter? Serious question. It's not all just outraged on here. Far more are finding the responses hilarious than the actual tweet itself. Not just Twitter, social media in general.
It's all becoming a parody of itself with the shrieking which whether you like it or not is happening.
It's not just an echo chamber of OMG in here.

Tessliketrees · 22/12/2017 01:07

Good point, Twitter outrage always manifests itself into real world consequences.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 22/12/2017 01:07

Crack on with yours. It appeals to a very low base.

This is the whole bloody point! It's fucking Poundland FFS. It's supposed to appeal to a low base

Originalfoogirl · 22/12/2017 01:08

Are you on Twitter? Serious question

Yep. Seen the wankerish replies. And seen the responses to anyone who disagrees with it, which is why it seems more popular than it actually is likely to be. Same low base folk on there too.

Makes no difference to their sales, who exactly do you think is looking at it saying “you know, I’ve never been to Poundland, I think I’ll go because they did some shit with an elf that people didn’t like”

Good marketing expands your customer base, or increases sales of a particular brand or range, encourages footfall. Poor marketing appeals only to your existing customer base and does not offer enticements or incentives to bring existing customers in.
