To think Poundland ad is not “genius” and is actually a bit I appropriate?

Most comments on Facebook are proclaiming it “genius.” I don’t think a sexual innuendo is that genius TBF.

Plus why is it a woman lying on her back with a t shirt saying “power” and a man standing over her dominating her. They could have at least chosen another sexual innuendo.

Also difficult to explain to kids.

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?

In response to gifts post. Just had to go search as not seen it. They've removed it.
Presumably because it's not offensive unless you go looking for offence in the first place!
For crying out loud, humour is still allowed. Even if it's not the "allowed" sense of humour nowadays.

BertrandRussell · 21/12/2017 23:52

Pumpkin- do you think jokes about ni**ers are OK? Poofters? Pakis?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/12/2017 23:54

ItsAllGoingToBeFine

I feel really sorry for any female members of staff who will no doubt be getting the ads quoted at them verbatim by random leering men for bantz

Absolutely. Still it is an interesting touchstone - there are people who think this is funny and clever and the people you would want in your life who can see how crass it is.

They are this generations Hyacinth Bucket

Never heard anything as stupid in all my life

There is fierce competition for the most stupid thing said on the internet, but I agree that Hyacinth Bucket remark is a worthy contender.

Of course I don't. Just not the same. Even if you want it to be.

BertrandRussell · 21/12/2017 23:57

“Of course I don't. Just not the same. Even if you want it to be“

Explain to me why......

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/12/2017 23:57

You're frothing about an elf

No they are not. That remark shows a quite spectacular level of obtuseness.

Originalfoogirl · 21/12/2017 23:58

What’s hilarious is elton thinking Poundland have a crack team of Digital Marketing hot shots who have the ability to extrapolate their marketing “strategy” to the level of analysis suggested.

They don’t. They have a Digital Marketing manager who thinks this sort of puerile nonsense is funny and has assumed their customer base thinks the same. That’s contemptuous. And what’s worrying is, they seem to think the largely wankerish comments on their social media means that everybody loves it. When clearly they don’t. But once again we see anyone who sticks their head above the parapet is shouted down as being humourless or stupid.

Is it the default assumption that oral/genital contact between hetrosexuals is non consensual/abusive?

Don't waste your time Bertrand. The wilful (one hopes it is wilful) lack of comprehension by some posters is depressing.

Must be.

BellaDarkness · 22/12/2017 00:00

I found it funny when i first saw it but i only saw the elfs dopey face.

Then i zoomed in and realized what it was.

Originalfoogirl · 22/12/2017 00:00

Oh come on Bertrand you know this one. It’s because we aren’t allowed to target minority groups in these sorts of things but it’s entirely ok to target women. Becuz it’s just bantz.

BertrandRussell · 22/12/2017 00:02

Yes, I know, Lass and Original and others. It’s just so depressing.....

PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 00:07

OMG. You are so missing the point, that has been pointed out time and time again. It's not the tweet that is the funny bit, that was "meh. Try hard." It is the complete outrage, the having to explain, some of the responses on Twitter.
You're making it the joke. It's like the Mary Whitehouse and Outraged From Tunbridge Wells in the 90s and Points Of View all over again but in digital form. Grin

Giftdilema · 22/12/2017 00:09

Pumpkin it's not been removed it is still there. Second tweet down in their social media.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 22/12/2017 00:09

'ZOMG. You don't understand that clever Hyacinth Bucket parody'.

Is a willing participant in parodying themselves.

This is pointed out.

Just starts whinging about sexism again

Tessliketrees · 22/12/2017 00:11

I thought you had stoppedoff gone to bed?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 22/12/2017 00:12

No that's not funny Pumpkin.

PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 00:13

cries
I'm only 39.

PumpkinSquash · 22/12/2017 00:14

No that's not funny Pumpkin.

Yeah, that's subject to opinion. Who/what do you find funny?

Tessliketrees · 22/12/2017 00:15

Gets hilariously outraged and irrational about perceived irrational outrage

Gets laughed at

Gets all the posters confused in heightened state of anger

Flounces off to bed

Lies in bed seething about all the knitting corbynista vegans

Logs back to on repeat cycle

VladmirsPoutine · 22/12/2017 00:15

But once again we see anyone who sticks their head above the parapet is shouted down as being humourless or stupid.

Or from the other side branded thick, or (wilfully) obtuse; oft times 'goady' substitutes 'I don't agree with you'. It's impossible to have any sort of sensible discussion about these types of issues without it entirely going off a cliff.

I am sure they do. The parroting of such hackneyed phrases as if they were witty and original is tedious.

First time I've said it or seen such parroting. Confused
Just because it doesn't fit with your humour doesn't mean it should b shut down.
