Who is BU?

I won't tell you which person I am as I honestly want to know if IBU...
Person A has a car she has a disabled husband (he is mobile and does not need to be driven around 24/7) a 1yr old child and is 6 months pregnant.
Person B is a shift worker (mostly nights) her and her husband has had a tough time lately due to financial problems, and really needs the car for work.

Person A lends person B her car I October. Person B promises to return the car in December (no date specified, but before Christmas) all is fine.

December comes around and Person A asks for the car to be returned within 2 weeks, give or take a few days.
Person B said that she would like the car until January, but this is not a possibility for Person A.
A day before Person B is to return the car, she gets into an accident. Thankfully she is not hurt, however the car is damaged. Her insurers give her a courtesy car. All great.
Person A is angry because she now has no car for Christmas. She said to Person B that she expected a car on day 'X' and regardless she should have one (meaning she should be entitled to the courtesy car)
Person B believes that this accident was no one's fault and all has been put out.

Who is BU??
Tried to keep objective x

Person b ibu

Greenshoots1 · 21/12/2017 08:56

if it is possible, person B should give the courtesy car to person A, but 1) that might not be possible under the terms of the insurance, and 2) person A should realise, when lending out a car, that it is possible to lose it in an accident.

Shoxfordian · 21/12/2017 08:56

B is unreasonable but why did A lend her car to B in the first place?

CombineBananaFister · 21/12/2017 08:57

If it's person As car, then they should be entitled to have it/courtesy car back. They were very kind to give it in the first place. Why does B think they no longer need to give the vehicle back? Because it's not the originalienable car? That's just daft!

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2017 08:57

Person b is royally taking the piss and should provide the car to a. A should not be in difficulty due to doing b a favour.

B now has a car for an extended period due to the accident where as a is going without. B would not have had a car now if she didn't have the accident. A has been very generous. B is a user and a taker.

Which person are you?

Groovee · 21/12/2017 08:58

Person B. She should have returned the car when asked originally.

AnnetteCurtains · 21/12/2017 08:58

B

Mulch · 21/12/2017 08:59

Person b, person a has done a nice thing lending it

shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 21/12/2017 09:00

Person B should have returned the car when asked to by Person A

LilRedWG · 21/12/2017 09:01

B

bluesu · 21/12/2017 09:01

Car sharing is never a good idea. If it's A's Cat then surely they would have the insurance in their name and therefore the courtesy car should be with them, not B.

bluesu · 21/12/2017 09:01
  • car. Not Cat.
Spartaca · 21/12/2017 09:03

What is B's logic here? Why do they think it is reasonable to continue like this?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/12/2017 09:03

Person B has been utterly, outrageously unreasonable.

Person A has been a total doormat.

Whichever you are I hope this has been a wake up call... you need to make some changes!

chickenowner · 21/12/2017 09:09

B is being unreasonable and rather unpleasant.

A should have either not lent the car or should have been clear about exactly when the car should be returned.

As my Mum always says, never a borrower or a lender be!!

SpartonDregs · 21/12/2017 09:10

B

SpartonDregs · 21/12/2017 09:11

B should have returned it when asked, not held it hostage.

Grumblepants · 21/12/2017 09:12

I'm assuming you are person A, because there is no way person b is being reasonable in this instance. They must have a different side to this story to be able to justify their actions.

DollyMcDolly · 21/12/2017 09:13

B

WillowWept · 21/12/2017 09:14

Person B hugely unreasonable.

Did B have their own independent insurance? If so that might mean that Bs hands are tied re the courtesy car however they should be doing everything they can do to ensure the car is repaired and returned ASAP

wednesdayswench · 21/12/2017 09:19

Person B is taking the piss (but it is possible that the courtesy car cannot be driven by anyone else because of insurance etc)

Person A is crazy to have lent her car to someone for so many months

Longtime · 21/12/2017 09:19

I don’t understand if it’s person A’s car why person B has insurance

Bluntness100 · 21/12/2017 09:23

Curious to know who was at fault in the accident. Someone always is. Very coincidental they had an accident the day before it was due to come back, knowing they'd get a courtesy car and would get then what they wanted, a car for longer...

chickenowner · 21/12/2017 09:25

Bluntness That crossed my mind too.
