Everyone obviously thinks what they are telling you is true but sometimes their sources or opinions are not factually correct.

What is the most ridiculous or bizzare fact/opinion you have seen ?

Although a sudden change in the pressure (sneezing or laughing) will counteract this, so best to just wear a tampon.

NinkyNonkNightmares · 20/12/2017 03:17

@toriatoriatoria
and another PP, I came to say the same thing about working from home

NotBadConsidering · 20/12/2017 03:17

There's someone who's name changed a few times but presumably the same person (troll?) who insists you can't drink water to rehydrate, you need to drink squash/cordial instead.

NotBadConsidering · 20/12/2017 03:19

In fact they even said that drinking water alone is dehydrating. The mind boggles.

BarbaraofSevillle · 20/12/2017 05:57

If you're working class it is impossible for you to get a decent job, go to university or earn more than NMW because the sharp elbowed middle classes use all their advantages in life to push you out of the way at every turn.

CheapSausagesAndSpam · 20/12/2017 06:15

Barbara that's true to a point. It's not impossible but it's MUCH harder.

ferntwist · 20/12/2017 06:18

Groovy aha I get you, a very common refrain on MN, you are right! Smile

ferntwist · 20/12/2017 06:20

Neiflette surely warm water makes you bleed more, hence the old trope about committing suicide by cutting your wrists and lying in a bath?

StripySocksAndDocs · 20/12/2017 06:25

NotBadConsidering think I know this person in real life (well hopefully there's only one of them). One of my dc was ill (was being sick a lot) and she gave me the sound advice to not to give him water. Not under ANY circumstance as it was THE WORSE thing I could give him.

I actually can't recall what she said I should give him (think it was cordial) as I was so WTF i stopped listening didn't hear properly.

That you can change the locks and just shout dibs on a jointly owned property when your no longer DH/STBXH next go out and then they’ll have to move out/ won’t be allowed access to their own property

MaisyPops · 20/12/2017 07:01

Quimby
And you'll get to keep the house until the children are 18.
Oh and your ex must continue paying for it during that time so no need to go back to work or anything. The bill fairy will pay everything. After all it's only fair that one person owns half a house they can't live in or sell. Hmm

treaclesoda · 20/12/2017 07:02

Is that the same poster who insists that water is 'a toxin' ?

fabulousfrumpyfeet · 20/12/2017 07:27

I had a Wispy in my downstairs loo. He was always in the same place every morning and we became quite friendly. Then I got a cleaner and forgot to mention him. Wispy was no more. I miss him even more knowing his amazing big hairy spider eating potential!

AgnesSkinner · 20/12/2017 07:33

TBF, with the hydration thing, if your electrolytes are out of whack (eg from sustained exercise inducing sweating) then just drinking plain water isn’t enough. And drinking too much water can lead to sodium depletion.

NB - I am not the “water is a toxin” poster.

YesThisIsMe · 20/12/2017 08:05

I agree that if you’ve been doing serious exercise (marathons for example) then hyperhydration is more of a health risk than dehydration. Sports drinks instead of water don’t necessarily prevent this though apparently.

treaclesoda · 20/12/2017 08:18

I understand about water itself not being enough to hydrate someone who is seriously dehydrated, but if I remember correctly the 'water is a toxin' poster was very adamant that you should never ever drink water because it's poison. Which struck me as plain weird, unless you live somewhere that there is a cholera epidemic and contaminated water supply.

theymademejoin · 20/12/2017 08:24

Today an evening invitation to a wedding is a direct insult.

And that really small wedding presents are the norm in mn. Wish it was where I live. You'd generally spend about €150 for a friend, more on family.

honeylulu · 20/12/2017 08:27

But surely (diluted) squash etc is mainly comprised of this terrible toxic water?

treaclesoda · 20/12/2017 08:29

Indeed. I think toxic water poster seemed to think that adding something to the water magically rendered it toxin free Confused

She was such good fun. I wish she would come back Grin

RitaMills · 20/12/2017 08:40

Drinking isotonic sports drinks does hydrate you quicker than water apparently and balances out your electrolytes (which too much water will dilute) so if you’re ill or like me have an ileostomy (so very prone to dehydration) then the advice is drink squash or a sports drink rather than water, or of course take something like dioralyte. This is just the advice I’ve been given from my surgeon and my specialist nurse so no smart ass comments directed at me please, I’m not a medical expert I only folllow their advice and it does appear to work for me when I’m dehydrated. Grin

Obviously normal people without D&V or a medical condition which causes sever dehydration will be sufficiently hydrated drinking plain old water.

specialsubject · 20/12/2017 08:46

On the subject of toxic water, I recall advice that people who exercise hard ( and unusually) and dont eat as well as drink can get sick. Not enough salt, possibly.

But we are talking hiking the grand canyon, not a trip to the park.

AgnesSkinner · 20/12/2017 08:54

DCs used to have rehydration tablets on standby for a day spent in the pool - by late afternoon they were often needed if they had been working hard. It does make a difference. Salty crisps were a standby too.

RitaMills · 20/12/2017 08:56

Salt does help too, the advice for me is diluted juice or sports drinks and add salt to everything.

It is, for a lot of us. What is your problem with that?
