I can't recall how we got onto this topic but a man at work seems to think that two slices of bread with a filling and cut in half is TWO sandwiches.Hmm

Whereas I think two slices of bread with filling is ONE sandwich cut in half...

What day you ? Smile

One sandwich and I would be vexed by someone referring to the ground as the floor.

TripleASays · 18/12/2017 21:39

No, definitely ONE sandwich

YANBU - two slices of bread with a filling in between = 1 round of sandwiches whether it is whole or cut in two (or 4 with the crusts off Wink).

FireCracker2 · 18/12/2017 21:43

2 sandwiches!

justdontevenfuckingstart · 18/12/2017 21:44

Trojans you can't take 1 sandwich and cut it into 4 and make 4 sandwiches!

Would like a sandwich for lunch?

Yes please.

Here have a miniscule scraping of cheese and half a slice of cucmber.

That's not a sandwich!

Yes it is, I made 1 sandwich and then cut it into 36 triangles. Shut the fuck up and eat your sandwich!

I had this discussion with a friend the other day, as her DP was debating the exact same thing.
We decided (and we are right, we decided) that 2 slices of bread, buttered and put together and cut in half = a sandwich.
1 slice of bread, buttered and folded in half = a sandwich, albeit a small one.

According to my ds, if it's cut in half, it's 2 sandwiches. If cut in four, it's four sandwiches. And he gets angry that I gave him too many. Hmm

It is one sandwich!

StripySocksAndDocs · 18/12/2017 22:21

One sandwich. I think it's used as a question to ascertain sanity. The answer 'two' raises alarm bells..

I always thought a round of sandwiches or toast involved many sandwiches or slices. A round as in is they can be passed around several people. I shall investigate!!

Gammeldragz · 18/12/2017 22:31

What about those supermarket packs of three with different fillings? Three sandwiches? DH says a sandwich and a half. I say would three sandwiches, specifying triangles if necessary. Different filling, different sandwich.

StripySocksAndDocs · 18/12/2017 22:41

Ok I'd discovered the reason for round:

Back before sliced bread (Aka plastic bread by some) all loaves were round (round ish anyway).

So a slice of bread = a round of bread. Meaning a round of toast is one slice (because it's round in shape).

A round of sandwiches is made from two slices. Because if you made a sandwich out of one slice you'd need to cut it in half (Or fold it if you were a heathen) then it's not round in shape. A two slice sandwich would be round in shape (even cut in half).

Clankboing · 18/12/2017 22:41

One piece of bread is one round - surely?

StripySocksAndDocs · 18/12/2017 22:45

Yes. Said that. Keep up Clankboing

you can't take 1 sandwich and cut it into 4 and make 4 sandwiches!

You could continue ad infinitum and end up with a homeopathic sandwich which is just an empty plate.

MadForlt · 18/12/2017 22:49

Trojans, if you were to ask someone to nip to Tesco and get you two sandwiches, would you expect to get one pack (of two halfs) or two?

A round of sandwiches is 2 slices of bread.

IcedCocoa · 18/12/2017 23:02

Fuckit2017 yes, precisely.
I am bemused by the seemingly prevalent view that two sandwiches are actually one.

StripySocksAndDocs · 18/12/2017 23:03

Wonder if this is how that Jesus chap feed loads of people with just a few loaves and a few fish.

He sliced up the loaves and mashed the fish up. Then shared the mashed fish between the slices (two at a time) the cut up each one so that everyone got a piece and just said 'It's still a sandwich. Obvs. Stop mithering'. Word then got round all 49,864 people there got a sandwich.
