The apprentice winner is selling 825g of basic sweets for £18 +£5 standard delivery

www.sweetsinthecity.co.uk/collection/giant-jars-of-joy/gjoj-retro-classic/

Morrison's are selling almost double the amount of mostly the same sweets for £5 and you can get free delivery

And a multimillionaire invests 250k in this while people up and down the country are having public services cut to the bone. If you made your fortune wouldnt you want to invest in businesses that help the community

I think in fairness to the OP once something has aired it is totally ok to talk about it. Madness otherwise. I know it is incumbent upon me to avoid spoilers after a show has aired.

Neolara · 18/12/2017 14:19

OP - You've just spoilt my evening's TV viewing! I appreciate this wasn't your plan.

But bringmetea it looks like the OP has deliberately started a tread with the title (a click baity one at that) giving no reference to The Apprentice and disclosing the winner in the first sentence of their post.

EmilyChambers79 · 18/12/2017 14:21

The colours used on the website (pink and black) and the name of the business looks a bit Sex and the City.

There's money to be made in sweets. There's a parent at DS school who always has a table at the Christmas fair and Summer fair and she makes sweetie cones, sweetie cups, individual jelly character lollypops and pre packed mix ups.

I know her fairly well and asked if she made much money and she sells the sweetie cups for £3.50 each and makes a £1 off each one, the sweetie cones for £2 and makes a £1 off those, 30p off each mix up bag and 45p off each lolly. She always sells out and pays a tenner to the school for the table.

I don't think Alan Sugar is daft at all. He makes plenty of money and can obviously see the potential in this.

xmasgrinch · 18/12/2017 14:22

You're not buying sweets as such, you're buying a pre wrapped packaged 'fun' gift. It's like comparing the price of buying flowers from a florist in a bundle and a delivered bouquet - it's the 'value added' that you are paying for. I don't buy this shit but it isn't for people like me - it's for rich people who want to sent fun gifts to people who have everything. If they are shit, they'll go bust like so many previous winners.

FlouncyDoves · 18/12/2017 14:22

Thanks MNHQ for the new thread title.

MyKingdomForACaramel · 18/12/2017 14:23

Hahaha the spoiler alert should point out that it isn’t in fact a spoiler Wink

Idreamofalandrover · 18/12/2017 14:25

It was half hearted apology, but it was a mistake and I did all I can to fix it ASAP. It's not like I ran over anyones cat.

Yeah I don't think it's a coincidence the branding and name are very similar to S and the C.

As a previous poster said it's depressing if this is British intrapreneurship at its best.

Bloody hell - just looked at the Sweets in the City website, and they're already stocked by Selfridges, Harrods, Picture House cinemas and the Dorchester!! They're not great value at all, but there's definitely a market out there for them!!

Idreamofalandrover · 18/12/2017 14:26

Hahaha the spoiler alert should point out that it isn’t in fact a spoiler I was going to say that but feared people hating me even more for actually spoiling it!

MyBrilliantDisguise · 18/12/2017 14:26

But they're not even her creation! She's just gone to Poundland and bought the cheapest sweets there are, then stuck them in a glass jar and sold them for £18!

EssentialHummus · 18/12/2017 14:30

It's a shite product imo, but I can see why it's stocked by so many shops. I've not seen the episode yet but her reveelation last week that - SPOILER - she was still working on a decent website seven years in sent me bananas. I sell online. A properly functional, attractive, professional website of 5-6 pages can be up and running in (conservatively) a week.

Aeroflotgirl · 18/12/2017 14:34

Some people will buy them, those with money and very little time. Its like ordering bespoke flowers and chocolates type thing, yes you could get the same from the supermarket, but this is done personally and I suppose, delivered to the receiver. So you don't have to go to the Post Office.

juneybean · 18/12/2017 14:35

I liked the graze box idea. I'd love a weekly subscription of different sweets. Don't think she thought of that though she just focused on gifts.

Aeroflotgirl · 18/12/2017 14:35

Why is the op spoiling it, The Apprentice was aired last night, so most will know what happened anyway.

Blackteadrinker77 · 18/12/2017 14:35

spoiler, don't read if you haven't watched the episode

I think to call it British Entrepreneur failure is a bit much. 400k turnover and 15 extra British jobs before this investment isn't something I view as a failure.

The Sweeteze cards were great, I can see me buying for people in hospital now flowers are not allowed.

Idreamofalandrover · 18/12/2017 14:35

It's stocked by a few high end tourist shops as a gift. That's probably enough to keep one person in gainful employment (her 70k a year turnover) but the major flaw is scaling it. The Facebook pages are full of people doing this and every school sale has someone with exactly the same.

400k turnover and 15 extra British jobs before this investment

400k turnover in 7-8 years, I don't for a second believe she employes 15 people. If it did go well then a robot would pack them anyway.

OP posts:
Aeroflotgirl · 18/12/2017 14:37

The winners will have been in the Media and some have posted on FAcebook, so no big secret.

PiffleandWiffle · 18/12/2017 14:43

And a multimillionaire invests 250k in this while people up and down the country are having public services cut to the bone.

There's a reason he's a multimillionaire.....

I honestly don't understand why you think what a millionaire spends his privately earned money on is remotely comparable to Public Service cuts??

Eightbelles · 18/12/2017 14:44

Hardly much of a spoiler. She was selling those sweets before she went on the show.

Plus if you don't want things spoiled, watch the show when it's aired? Otherwise you run that risk unless you just don't leave your house, turn the TV off and don't look online. Spoilers everywhere, newspapers, other websites etc.

PiffleandWiffle · 18/12/2017 14:45

And seriously for the "spoiler" moaners, tough titty.

If you haven't caught up by the afternoon of the following day then I have no shits to give for your outrage....

Pavonia · 18/12/2017 14:46

Me too, GET THE TITLE CHANGED

AstraiaLiberty · 18/12/2017 14:46

'Pimped up pick & mix'? Real classy branding there.
