After reading another thread where there are some ladies who said they don't have children, don't want them and haven't tried..

What made you come to a parenting website?

I understand those who have tried or can't have children etc. - NOT a hate thread, genuinely wondering x

XPost with laiste on “cringey”!

Laiste · 17/12/2017 09:24

No need to say ladies or women.

Posters? People? Women would have been ok though IMO.

None of this matters much.

Laiste · 17/12/2017 09:26

Happy to share cringey Grin

Laiste · 17/12/2017 09:27

What is the correct terminology for cringey though?

lynmilne65 · 17/12/2017 09:27

Am 68 and love it

Notevilstepmother · 17/12/2017 09:28

Another one who came to read the penis beaker thread after it went viral.

WanderingJules · 17/12/2017 09:29

@MazDazzle, Mumsnet is our go to place for reliable advice and recommendations now, both me and DH. And we almost always get the answer we are looking for.

Also, I agree the name is misleading now. Maybe call it Everyonesnet. As there is something on here for everyone. With children or without.

ushuaiamonamour · 17/12/2017 09:29

The Trump thread. No idea how I came upon it, though.

'Ladies' just seems a bit naff--the way a game show host with a perma-grin would address female contestants.

lynmilne65 · 17/12/2017 09:29

Like to compare from my youth 40+ years ago!

donajimena · 17/12/2017 09:31

I have children but I came her after googling about a shit relationship I was in. Got addicted. I wouldn't have thought it could be so much fun.

UnicornRainbowColours · 17/12/2017 09:31

I’m a Nanny found via google search. Now I just like reading all the threads in here it is pure entertainment haha

AwkwardSquad · 17/12/2017 09:31

You’ve had plenty of sensible responses to your question, OP, plus people having a bit of fun with ‘lady’. Not offended, just having a bit of fun because it’s a term that just doesn’t resonate with some of us. If you want to get hung up on that instead of replying to the posters who’ve answered your question, that’s your problem.

genuineidiot · 17/12/2017 09:32

To be fair most of the topics on here aren't about parenting, children, or TTC.

I'm the same as most of the others - I seem to remember googling something or other (can't remember what now) and ended up here.

I stay for AIBU and chat.

lynmilne65 · 17/12/2017 09:33

sparkling GrinGrin

GhostsToMonsoon · 17/12/2017 09:33

I don't see any harm in the question. I had heard of Mumsnet before children (I think from David Cameron doing a webchat) but it never occurred to me to look at it as I assumed it would be full of boring stuff about toilet training or the like. How wrong I was! I wish I'd found it years earlier.

I have Googled some stuff recently like "slippers that don't fall off" and Mumsnet often comes up.

IJoinedJustToPostThis · 17/12/2017 09:34

Penis beaker, obviously.

Laiste · 17/12/2017 09:37

So - on the off chance anyone else at all was wondering what the posh term for 'cringey' could be i've found:

embarrassing, awkward, upsetting, unpleasing, uncomfortable, excruciating, inconvenient, unpropitious, humiliating, off-putting, troubling, displeasing, distressing, frightful, incommodious, mortifying, nasty, repulsive and shameful.

None of them really do it for me. I'm sticking with cringey Grin

Emlou07 · 17/12/2017 09:38

@LolaTheDarkdestroyer Goady? Confused But um.. I'm good here thanks!

Thanks for the serious replies. I like to read other people opinions. I was curious. To the rest - Will reconsider my wording next time! Grin

Why are people being so rude?

It's doesn't matter what the topic is - the site is "aimed" at mums. As women with children we will all have a variety of opinions and experiences but a common factor
. If the site gets over run by single blokes in the future I'm sure it will be very different.

Style and Beauty - my favourite bit of MN.
Also Sleb Gossip - the Larry threads.
I enjoy Aibu and In The News now too.

Evilstepmum01 · 17/12/2017 09:46

I found mn while looking for stepparenting advice and support.
Then I found Sporners Corner and classics and was hooked! Plus I love a good parking thread! 😁

falange · 17/12/2017 09:47

I don't come here for parenting advice because mine are grown up. We used to read it at work to laugh at it, especially the ones who would start posts by telling you that they have degrees, have high paying jobs (like that made their opinions more valid) but I think it has changed in the last few years and I stayed. It is useful for advice and debate on loads of stuff. I've found it really useful and interesting.

Lockheart · 17/12/2017 09:49

I was looking for ideas for what to get a friend of mine as a post-birth survival kit! It was some years ago now.
