After reading another thread where there are some ladies who said they don't have children, don't want them and haven't tried..

What made you come to a parenting website?

I understand those who have tried or can't have children etc. - NOT a hate thread, genuinely wondering x

‘Ladies’ 😂

As other posters have said, there’s loads of discussions on MN that aren’t about children. And even though I don’t have children, I have learnt so much about the trials, joys and practical aspects of parenting from MN. I have much more understanding, patience and respect for parents now!

Mostly, anyway... some stuff does still irritate the fuck out of me Grin - toddlers free range in coffee shops, for example

NorthCoast · 17/12/2017 08:30

Someone pointed me in the direction of Mumsnet Classics and then I looked around the rest of the site, realised it wasn't just about parenting, and signed up.

Sparklingbrook · 17/12/2017 08:31

OP did you know there are men on this site too? Shock It's not all ladies.

caoraich · 17/12/2017 08:33

My cat died and I was googling around how to help my other cat and found the litter tray and they were all really kind and helpful- it's definitely the best/ most active cat forum I could find... then the "active threads" bit showed me a bunch of other sections like feminism, aibu. We're TTC now and have been looking at the concrption boards. But litter tray is still my favourite!

Lucisky · 17/12/2017 08:36

I found 'the doghouse' through a search for information, started looking at the rest of the threads.
I have had many merry moments reading mumsnet classics.
I don't read any threads to do with children because I am not interested, but the majority don't seem to be child related anyway.

MissionItsPossible · 17/12/2017 08:38

Digital Spy was down for quite a while and I needed an alternative so Googled popular uk forums. As a childless, young(ish) gay guy, I kept actively avoiding the top result of mumsnet as it didn't sound very appealing and thought it was just going to be about parenting and pregnancy tips! I didn't find anything better so eventually visited here, found AIBU, fell in love and ditched DS (Digital Spy, not my non-existent Dear Son) for this.

WineAndTiramisu · 17/12/2017 08:39

I think I ended up on here originally via AIBU or classics and stayed (mainly on AIBU), recently been on conception and then pregnancy board, but initially wasn't anywhere near having children

Sparklingbrook · 17/12/2017 08:40

You don't have to have DC to take part in a bunfight about

Parking gripes
Reclining airline seats
Cat poo in the garden
Shoes on or off in the house
Eating food before buying it in the supermarket

And many, many more. Grin

theimportanceofbeinghappy · 17/12/2017 08:40

Wtf is wrong with the word "ladies"???????

Are people now getting offended over it?

Jesus Christ what world are we living in?

GoingIn · 17/12/2017 08:41

Many of the discussion threads are not family related so surely that would be the reason.

Fintress · 17/12/2017 08:45

I had heard of MN but never been on it until 4 years ago.when we were having our kitchen refitted and did a Google search for "prison and cons of granite worktops"

That made me laugh Grin. I was googling for help with Puzzle Donkey and found great help on here. I do have children but they are grown up.

Sparklingbrook · 17/12/2017 08:48

I am not 'offended' by the word 'ladies'. It's just an awful word. Plus not everyone on here is a lady.

OrangeFluff · 17/12/2017 08:51

Clearly you have not looked at many of the topics on here OP. The majority of them have absolutely nothing to do with parenting.

I think the name "Mumsnet" is unfortunate.

AstraiaLiberty · 17/12/2017 08:52

I came here for the staffroom back when I was still working in a school. Stayed for the feminism and the general quality of discussion - and the more ridiculous threads in AIBU!

Scribblegirl · 17/12/2017 08:59

Something on AIBU, I think.

I started posting just after I left uni, until then I'd used The Student Room for general chatter but found it was beginning to feel a but 'young' for me. Similarly I rarely spoke about student issues on there, in the same way I don't talk about being a mum because I'm not one.

And 'ladies' is just ew. Harks back to the misogyny of the boss walking past the typing pool.

Medeci · 17/12/2017 09:03

I've got children but came here for the Doghouse.
Not interested in any of the parenting threads.

CCMcGarry · 17/12/2017 09:04

I don't have children yet but then I'm only twenty five with a decent job but we are planning on having them when I either feel I want to or I hit thirty my husband is a lot older than me so it is a decision we'll both make together when we are ready.

I am relatively new on here and just reading some the of the threads helps make the 'ultimate' decision but then that will reside with me and my husband.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 17/12/2017 09:04

I was looking for relationship advice and found this place. I stayed because I like the layout and the tone. MN is far more than just for parents you know.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 17/12/2017 09:05

Found a handy washing thread, stayed for AIBU. Mumsnet gives great advice. I'm not always in agreement with other posters, I'm not politically aligned with a lot of posters, but I find mumsnet supportive and informative. We all go through the same situations.

InfiniteSheldon · 17/12/2017 09:05

My dc are long grown i came because of property and feminism boards originally they came up on my internet searches so often I decided to join.

Pickleypickles · 17/12/2017 09:06

*Wtf is wrong with the word "ladies"???????

Are people now getting offended over it?

Jesus Christ what world are we living in?*

^This.

Sparklingbrook · 17/12/2017 09:07

Who is offended? Confused

Pickleypickles · 17/12/2017 09:09

If you rtft a few people....

Sparklingbrook · 17/12/2017 09:09

I don't think offended is the right word...

Sparklingbrook · 17/12/2017 09:10

OP seems to have disappeared anyway.
