(Or at least the character he plays) for mansplaining to the woman at the train station how she really shouldn’t watch movies on her phone, as it will use up all her data allowance. Git!

I think you need to start changing the channel if it upsets you that much

@ArcheryAnnie

so do you think the woman in the ad is his new real life girlfriend too?

I am genuinely Confused.

Zucker · 15/12/2017 13:35

Have I missed something in these ads.......how does martin Freeman find his lady friend on the island? Is it her private island and how does he just happen upon her at the beach?

beepbeeprichie · 15/12/2017 13:37

So smug. A do as I say not as I do taxpayer. Let his (now ex) partner go bankrupt when he was worth ÂŁ10m.
I loved him in the office but he's been in too many things being Tim for my liking.

PyongyangKipperbang · 15/12/2017 13:41

I know someone who used to work for him and he is a grade A prick. The surprise wasnt that his wife left him, but why it took her so long.

BlazingPaddles · 15/12/2017 13:44

I thought the bankruptcy thing was so weird. If you're a very wealthy person why wouldn't you help your partner/mother of your kids out rather than letting them declare themselves bankrupt?!

haveacupoftea · 15/12/2017 13:46

He used to be best mates with Benedict Cumberbatch didn't he but it all went wrong somewhere I think

ArcheryAnnie · 15/12/2017 13:47

LoveYouTimMinchin no, I don't think that woman is his girlfriend, amazingly enough. It's just of you have an actor who is playing himself, as that ad seems to be, not just "sad anonymous character obsessed by data limits", then I think it's weird. They don't set him up to be anyone but Martin Freeman.

Raisedbyguineapigs · 15/12/2017 13:50

I don't get the big deal about him either. I think the problem is that someone has seen certain actors as successful in one role and thought they'd just shove them in everything else rather than bother with auditions. Then they just do the same thing again. The same with Hiddlestone (although I did come over a bit unnecessary in Thor Ragnarok) Amanda Abbingdon has moved on and is seeing Jonjo o' Neil who was really funny in a play I saw last year.

Think Martin Freeman is pretty uninteresting as an actor...
He seems to have no range... Altho this could be cos of parts he's offered...
... Or not!...

Disagree re Martin Clunes - not keen on him.. But he can act...
Viz...

Men behaving badly
Doc Martin
Goodbye Mr Chips.. (which was brilliant with him!)

Not a lot of commonality... It doesnt seem he is just playing variations of one character!

Raisedbyguineapigs · 15/12/2017 13:52

What a disgusting thing for MF to say! Moron.

KurriKurri · 15/12/2017 13:53

The point of the advert is that she knows more than him - it is poking fun at mansplaining.

As for the woman in the advert being his new GF - he's an actor, it's called acting, he isn't being Martin Freeman - he's being someone else - that's his job. I mean - seriously ????

The thing that annoys me about the advert is the fact that their entire relationship seems to be based on meeting in strange places and talking about phones - that's an odd concept Grin

Raisedbyguineapigs · 15/12/2017 13:56

blazing why should you spend a fraction of your millions on someone elses tax bill when the plebs can just pick up the tab?

TheXXFactor · 15/12/2017 14:00

I've got a friend who knew him well in his teens and is still in touch. Apparently he was a nice guy, back in the day, but is now a massive knob (not in a good way Wink).

The adverts bug me - are we supposed not to notice that he is 20 years older than the woman?

KatharinaRosalie · 15/12/2017 14:01

he's doing the opposite of any mansplaining. He's warning her about date usage and she tells him she's got a good deal and is more clued up than him.

But that's exactly what mansplaining is - a man assuming woman can't know as much as him and needs to be explained how things actually are

BatShite · 15/12/2017 14:09

Whilst folk are looking into his tax affairs and general arsehole carry on, look into his Ex-wife's. She's no better. Shame they split, they were two very well suited arseholes.

Yes come on folks, not fair to be berating a man when there is also a woman who could be berated. Regardless of if the conversation is actually about the man. Always berate the woman. If one is involved, and even if one is not, find one to blame!

makeourfuture · 15/12/2017 14:10

He payed it.

Careful. You will be accused of womansplaining mansplaining in a sec...

expatinscotland · 15/12/2017 15:49

That man makes kissing maggots seem imminently preferable. Ewwww!

I'm sorry Archery but I still cannot see for a single moment why you would think Martin Freeman is playing himself. When you say you assume he is not in character and all that says to you is that he's moved on from his ex very quickly - then who do you think the woman in the ad is? Is she an actor in your head?

MiltonTheCockroach · 15/12/2017 16:22

bananas I read that he helped with the debts at the time but she paid him back. I think that's where the confusion may have been re: the PP's comment about MF paying it off.

PuppyMonkey · 15/12/2017 16:34

I don't understand the notion he's playing himself in the advert. That's like saying the Go Compare man must be playing himself, as he's also in an advert. Grin
