Text at 8am that school will open at 10:30. Just got another one saying that school will be open then but if you can get in then it doesnt matter and wont affect attendance.

I know it was last minute (rained overnight and then froze, I have never seen a road that is literally an ice rink before), but surely a blanket closure would be more sensible?

I've had a keyboard where one of the diagonal columns of letters stopped working, and for a time I had to cut and paste in the correct letters! I suspect that.

You may find that it's only one area that's effected.
We lived 10 minute drive from school at secondary. We woke up one morning to find the entire roads covered with an ice rink. The school bus crashed, as did the replacement, and the replacement to that got halfway and gave up.
Dm usually drove us, so we went very slowly and arrived about an hour late having picked up a couple of the bus people.
But the funny thing was that the ice was from just before our house along to about 1 road before the school. It was totally clear in the other three directions-and not many people came from our direction, so it was quite hard to get the teachers to believe us.
