In the Night Garden is about half an hr long..do it!

RadioGaGoo · 13/12/2017 16:54

He did watch an episode and it did keep him engaged. I didnt catch it myself as I was totally engrossed in the tea and chocolate I had.

My 8 month old loves peppa- I do not, she's an awful person!!!
Teletubbies on iPlayer works well

RadioGaGoo · 13/12/2017 16:59

Also SleepingStandingUp, what have you done! Small Potatoes was well received!

SilverySurfer · 13/12/2017 17:19

OMG don't do it! I know nothing about babies but have been led to believe that they spontaneously combust if left unattended for 10 seconds these days.

I know it's not nice to hear a baby cry but seriously, if left alone for five minutes I doubt it will affect them adversely.

I'm of an age where I was left tucked up in a pram at the bottom of the garden for eons when I was a baby and I'm perfectly normal [squint] [shuffle] Grin

Hope your DS enjoys Peppa Pig. Smile

Anatidae · 13/12/2017 17:20

There is a YouTube video called ‘baby shark, but for ten hours’ I’d you want to lose the will to live

RainyDayBear · 13/12/2017 17:23

YABU. Get them on Netflix and have a proper half hour to yourself!

SleepingStandingUp · 13/12/2017 17:24

Small Potatoes Rock!!!!!!!

why12345 · 13/12/2017 17:26

YES you are BU! Peppa pig isn't long enough! You need a longer cartoon. Mickey Mouse clubhouse!

SleepingStandingUp · 13/12/2017 17:29

RadioGaGoo when DS was in pain in hospital small potatoes soothed him quicker than any drugs!!

TammySwansonTwo · 13/12/2017 17:31

I have twins - honestly I don't know how people managed multiples before the existence of CBeebies. This week has been hell (colds, ear infections for them and a sinus infection for me). Hey Duggee has kept them and me sane. I can't give them both my undivided attention at the same time, and shock horror sometimes I actually need to wee or cook food.

LaurieMarlow · 13/12/2017 17:45

Aw I actually love Peppa. You'll look back fondly when he's at the Thomas/Paw Patrol/Blaze/Fireman Sam phase.

JennyBlueWren · 13/12/2017 17:50

At that age my son's best TV was the News (especially weather) -think it's because there's a big face pointed at the camera for a fair amount of it and Pointless! If he was in a proper rage we would put Pointless on YouTube to snap him out of it.

blue2014 · 13/12/2017 17:51

Peppa herself is very annoying but the programme is actually pretty funny (when you don't have time to watch actual comedy programmes anymore)

Night Garden is witchcraft - it totally absorbs him. It's shit though but I don't care.

Kintan · 13/12/2017 17:52

Christmas Eve on Sesame Street is on YouTube- so much better than Peppa Pig!

Offyougo · 13/12/2017 18:39

Yabu. Babies don't need any tv. Get home some Toys on the floor/highchair, pophim in the sling, let him look around and explore. If he cries he needs something if he's just whining be within view and do whatever u need to do. Tv for under 2s/28 months it's just ridiculous

SleepingStandingUp · 13/12/2017 18:53

Nobody needs telly. That isn't the point is it else you wouldn't have a random age At which its ok.
What OP needed was 5 minutes off the entertainment train without leaving her baby crying or whining- which would be rather counterproductive to her having 5 minutes peace. Or is she not entitled to any peace now she's a mom?

ginandnappies · 13/12/2017 18:56

If you have netflix, little baby bum is a godsend! I'm sure it's on YouTube aswell x

Offyougo · 13/12/2017 19:05

Babies entertainment is their environment,it's still all new!have 5 min peace when baby us napping, busy playing, when the father/grandma etc is there...not so hard is it

BoomBoomsCousin · 13/12/2017 19:21

Screens for babies under 18 months is associated with poorer language development, reading skills and short-term memory as well as sleep problems. I find the warnings against TV use for older children to be overblown as they're unsupported by evidence and possibly counterproductive, but there is evidence that TV for babies is not a good idea. Can't you just give him some new boxes or something to play with?

Ecureuil · 13/12/2017 19:22

I don’t think a 4 minute episode of peppa pig is going to impair language development.

I’m going to judge. Sorry! But there you go.

That's ok, it can't be easy being so sanctimonious.

Yanbu op but just stick cbeebies on. Better than peppa!

OhOurBilly · 13/12/2017 20:13

I have cbeebies on pretty much continuously. DS had his year review yesterday and got an A* at 'being a 12 month old'.

Hey Duggee is hilarious. Mr Tumble also amusing and educational. The baby's brain won't rot in 15 minutes. Although you may have to sing nursery rhymes at him in Latin/Mandarin/Japanese for three hours to combat the negative effects. With actions. And dance moves.

Well exactly. Can we just apply a little common sense to the issue at hand, thanks?
