AIBU To Not like Blue Christmas lights? (Light-hearted)

I really do not like them and yet where I live they have become very 'popular'.

I love original yellow fairy lights, no chaser, no flashing, no colours as such -no bright white.

Never mind, each to their own! X

In the context of persecution of Jews throughout history, and the way Jews often had to hide their Jewishness or face dire consequences, that is a very ignorant stance to take.

Or maybe you're just over reacting.

KipperBalloon · 14/12/2017 08:35

This has taken a turn since I last looked in! Confused

BeyondAssignation · 14/12/2017 08:52

I have no idea how I got to this age without knowing blue lit trees are used for Hanukkah!

If it's proper blue then great 👍 it's the white blue that hurts my eyes (I will point out that I have SPD, so that's probably why)

Ecureuil · 14/12/2017 08:58

I had no idea they were the colour used to celebrate Hanukkah. My comment about disliking them was in relation to them being used as Christmas decorations, as I don’t find them at all Christmassy. I imagine that’s the same for most people on this thread who dislike them.

MiltonTheCockroach · 14/12/2017 09:12

Well I learnt something new today. re: blue lights and Hanukkah. Thing is, loads of Hanukkah tress/bushes don't have blue lights.

I think most people are referring to the glitzy blue lights being strung up outside houses anyway.

BeyondAssignation · 14/12/2017 09:18

Like this? 😂

I love the blue, but it shouldn’t be used exclusively or to excess.

Jux · 14/12/2017 11:58

Math, I love your posts but not this time. Context is everything.

Wellfuckmeinbothears · 14/12/2017 12:00

I have flashing light induced epilepsy and find any flashing lights bring on a seizure. I actually think they should be banned!

mytitshaveshrunk · 14/12/2017 15:56

HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, HATE THEM, I'm not very keen either OP

Laiste · 14/12/2017 16:37

Not keen. Whatever they're for. They look cold.

oliveinacampervan · 14/12/2017 16:56

Re the pics put on here of peoples blue lights, they look quite pretty, but they don't look even remotely Christmassy.

It's probably the least Christmassy colour you could have!

NeegansWife · 14/12/2017 17:18

I. Despise. Them.

misscheery · 14/12/2017 17:18

Not only that I hate blue Christmas lights, but I also hate blue baubles.... runs away...Confused

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 14/12/2017 17:19

I think ice-white and blue is a very Christmassy combination, like icicles in Lapland.

Wh0KnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 14/12/2017 17:21

x-posts with misscheery my blue baubles are my favourites Xmas Grin

MsHarry · 14/12/2017 17:35

Not my fave, a bit too cold looking but they are better than those new projector things!

MsHarry · 14/12/2017 17:38

I am a self confessed Christmas light snob. Only warm white, non flashing, non migraine/fit inducing lights will do. Some houses look like someone has thrown the fairy lights at the house, all mismatched and asymmetrical. It shouldn't bother me, bigger problems an all that but it does.Grin

TheHolidayArmadillo · 14/12/2017 18:06

At least the people with ugly blue lights won't have to worry about people shooting up under their tree Xmas Grin

Laiste · 14/12/2017 18:48

Armadillo lowers the tone.

After years of white lights on our tree I swapped to multi coloured this year, aiming to re-create that 70's feel of childhood christmasses. Was slightly disappointed they didn't look as I remember, now I realise it's because there's blue in there with the red, yellow and green. Never had those years ago.

stardust18 · 14/12/2017 19:46

I totally agree with you OP, both my husband and I don't like them.
I think there cold and just aren't christmassy.
I'm the same as you just warm white and nothing that flashes,
But some people must love them because you do see a lot

Springprim · 14/12/2017 19:52

I love them. My dad who suffers from depression say that they lift his mood too. Maybe not flashing on and off though!

Nightshirt · 15/12/2017 00:27

I don't like the coldness of them. Give me soft glowing original white lights any day please.
