To ask which old TV shows should everyone watch?

Finally got around to watching Sons Of Anarachy and one of the series finales has me sobbing like a child. I often think there's nothing new to watch, but there are so many great older shows that people have missed out on.

My biggest recommendation would be The Shield - watched that back to back a few years ago, well after it aired, probably the best TV series I've ever seen.

Aside from the obvious (Breaking Bad, Dexter, Mad Men etc), which other long-since finished TV shows would you suggest?

My list would also include Carnivale, and 30 Rock because it's bloody hilarious.

Yes Minister / Prime Minister - satire which was both clever and funny. Hawthorne & Eddington's performances were glorious.

Brass Eye - Nonce sense! Sadly, I don't think C4 have got the balls to ever repeat it....

Tuttytoffee · 15/12/2017 22:46

Haven’t rtft yet so apologies if already mentioned but opened all hours - such a warm goodhearted old show. I’m midtwenties and have the box set. It helps me fall asleep 🙈

31weeksgone · 15/12/2017 23:18

Open all hours that should say. The original ones, not these new ones.

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 15/12/2017 23:25

BBC's Pride & Prejudice with Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth
Abigail's Party (not a series but Alison Steadman is excruciatingly brilliant)
The Dukes of Hazard (early seasons...gets shit later seasons)
That 70's Show (again, early seasons)
The Young Ones
Extras
The Office (UK)
True Blood (not late seasons, first season is awesome though).

Everything else already been mentioned, Spaced, Bottom, IT Crowd, Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Vicar of Dibley, Gavin & Stacey but avoid second series of Nighty Night, fuck knows what happened, first series is brilliant!

It’s always sunny in Philadelphia!! Such a hidden gem Grin watch it past the first season though as it’s not as funny until Danny De Vito comes into it.

Oh no, not Lost, that was one of the most frustrating programs I've ever watched! I didn't even reach the end of it either, which is a total let down too by all accounts.

Melony6 · 16/12/2017 06:41

Nighty- night.

OMG the nipples!
I see it is on dvd - must get them.

AnnaAlyce · 16/12/2017 22:41

I love Two Broke Girls. I love Friends too and it has a bit of a Friends vibe about it.

CremeFresh · 16/12/2017 23:02

Tomorrows World - interesting to see all the prototypes of things we now take for granted.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 17/12/2017 11:36

Oh dear, I can't bear Friends, sorry!

It has only just finished, but Detectorists is absolutely great! I'm so upset it is only a series of 6 although I think there is a Christmas special coming. I hope there will be another series. If you like gentle British comedies in the vein of Dad's Army or Last of the Summer Wine perhaps, then you will love it. No canned laughter on it either! My favourite at the moment. The DVD will be on my Christmas list!

buggerthebotox · 17/12/2017 11:39

Has anyone mentioned World at War yet?
