To ask which old TV shows should everyone watch?

Finally got around to watching Sons Of Anarachy and one of the series finales has me sobbing like a child. I often think there's nothing new to watch, but there are so many great older shows that people have missed out on.

My biggest recommendation would be The Shield - watched that back to back a few years ago, well after it aired, probably the best TV series I've ever seen.

Aside from the obvious (Breaking Bad, Dexter, Mad Men etc), which other long-since finished TV shows would you suggest?

My list would also include Carnivale, and 30 Rock because it's bloody hilarious.

Blackadder
The League of Gentlemen (makes far more sense if you binge it)
The Thick of it

BlondeB83 · 11/12/2017 23:59

The X-Files - some of seasons 1-3 have dated so you have to cherry pick but still an amazing show!

Twin Peaks

ER

Ally McBeal

Oh god Sunset Beach! That takes me right to 6th form where we'd spend lunchtime in an empty classroom watching either that or Jerry Springer! There's a YouTube account somewhere that has every episode.

IJustGotHitByADeer · 12/12/2017 01:26

Father Ted

Janetjanetjanet · 12/12/2017 01:31

Seinfeld.

I think it's aged well.

PumpkinSquash · 12/12/2017 01:41

How are some of the stuff mentioned old?!
Stop it.
Red Dwarf just common sense to watch. Smeghead if you think otherwise.
Goodnight Sweetheart brilliant and only came out two years ago shh, don't correct me, I know all Yvonne and her love in with the Blairs was only last year lol )

stitchglitched · 12/12/2017 01:46

Law and Order (the original series). I'm currently watching every episode from the beginning, it's great and I have 20 years worth to enjoy!

The Wire

Roots (the original version)

Frasier

stitchglitched · 12/12/2017 01:48

Oh and Dawson's Creek, currently the whole series is available on 4 on demand.

TammySwansonTwo · 12/12/2017 01:58

Sorry, should have been more specific - "old" as in no longer running, but stuff that's actually "old" in terms of age is totally fine too!

There are a few here that I haven't seen so will add to my list. And many of my absolute favourites (ER, Frasier, Curb, Arrested Development etc).

I still believe that The Shield is better than The Wire though, although TW is great too :)

Bodies is the one and only TV programme I've ever complained about - only saw one episode but ooh it made me so angry at the time!
