To ask which old TV shows should everyone watch?

Finally got around to watching Sons Of Anarachy and one of the series finales has me sobbing like a child. I often think there's nothing new to watch, but there are so many great older shows that people have missed out on.

My biggest recommendation would be The Shield - watched that back to back a few years ago, well after it aired, probably the best TV series I've ever seen.

Aside from the obvious (Breaking Bad, Dexter, Mad Men etc), which other long-since finished TV shows would you suggest?

My list would also include Carnivale, and 30 Rock because it's bloody hilarious.

Lost

The golden girls.
Upstairs downstairs.
Heidi.
Little house on the prairie
The Walton's...all childhood favourites.

As an adult, cold feet, although now dated is a real comfort programme for me.

Glad a few people have mentioned Teachers - I loved it when it first aired (yes, I am old).

Surprised no one has mentioned Spaced - still bloody awesome despite the age.

Recently rewatched My So Called Life, boy that was a painful experience. Worth it for Jared Leto, though ;)

Oz. Best series ever, but not for the faint hearted. You end up really caring about the characters.

TammySwansonTwo · 12/12/2017 12:11

Glad to have found another couple of Shield afficionados. It's criminally under-seen. I've rewatched it several times and it's just incredible.

I do need to finish The Sopranos and I've been wanting to watch Oz for aaaaaages.

Wonder Years

The Wire and The Sopranos but I don’t think of them being that old

I love watching box sets but there is something about keeping the suspense and really good writing/production/acting will leave you wanting to know more

And early Dallas and Dynasty for pure entertainment

The 80’s did some great mini series there was one about a woman attacked by a crocodile can’t remember the name but really enjoyed it

WindyWindy · 12/12/2017 12:31

I think I know just what you mean about the crocodile one. It was a revenge story involving plastic surgery iirc?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 12/12/2017 12:32

I wasn’t off sick last week and watched a few old episodes of Coronation Street guessing it was late 80’s and still was dominanted by the matriarchs. No big story line just day to day life a lot more humor it was really good then I forgot how funny it can be

Just introduced dc to Bottom and Alan Partridge

The original, UK version of House of Cards is wonderful. Very dated but deliciously dark and amusing.
