To ask which old TV shows should everyone watch?

Finally got around to watching Sons Of Anarachy and one of the series finales has me sobbing like a child. I often think there's nothing new to watch, but there are so many great older shows that people have missed out on.

My biggest recommendation would be The Shield - watched that back to back a few years ago, well after it aired, probably the best TV series I've ever seen.

Aside from the obvious (Breaking Bad, Dexter, Mad Men etc), which other long-since finished TV shows would you suggest?

My list would also include Carnivale, and 30 Rock because it's bloody hilarious.

Fawlty towers, mash, only fools and horses, one foot in the grave morse poirot. Miss Marple all creatures great and small. Modern tv is shit

DopeyDazy · 13/12/2017 10:39

the wire us brilliant and for a bit of nostalgia Budgie starring Adam Faith. First few episodes are in black and white and its very pre PC.

Bicarb · 13/12/2017 10:56

Jeeves & Wooster - Fry & Laurie at their absolute comedic best, helped by some epic writing

Justanotherlurker · 13/12/2017 11:26

Some of these are not old but I think should be watched IMO

The wire, It's more of a sociological critique of modern society than a TV series and you really need to concentrate on it to get the most out of watching it. If you make the time and effort to do so though you won't be disappointed.

@WoollyMollyMonkey I came on specifically to suggest The royle family! Watched it again recently, it’s even funnier than I remember. Like the comedy has distilled and improved with age.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 15/12/2017 18:45

We have to rewatch all the Christmas specials at this time of year too. Don't decline a recline Barbara! Brilliant.😂

Definitely Band of Brothers, DH and I are re-watching it for probably the 5th time at the moment and it still doesn't fail to make me cry, so well made.

More cheerfully, The Good Wife is brilliant, and I loved Desperate Housewives, back when I was on mat leave I used to watch it on e4.

Showing my age here, but if a tv channel ever decided to do a re-run of Flambards, I’d be a very happy woman Grin

Vitalogy · 15/12/2017 22:23

@MrsWicket I'd not heard of Flamgards. They have it on Amazon if that's any good to you. Sometimes people upload these series on Youtube, doesn't look like they have it though.
