Both.

As a child I remember one of our neighbours not going into work as a black cat crossed his path. He was a miner and there was a fall during the shift he should have worked and colleagues were injured, some badly. This confirmed his superstition that black cats were unlucky - his wife however was equally convinced that this sequence of events proved that black cats were lucky as he was not hurt!

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 11/12/2017 22:35

What if its your own pet? My black cat is always crossing my path, but as we live in the same house it does happen fairly often.

kiwiquest · 11/12/2017 22:54

Hmmm my parents demented black beast crossed my path at silly o clock this morning as I left their house nearly tripping me over.... unlucky for me. But then I got purrs and cuddles...lucky for me. Grin So both!

Katedotness1963 · 11/12/2017 23:00

Black cats are lucky!

SabineUndine · 11/12/2017 23:02

I always say it’s lucky for any black cat that crosses my path cos I’ll give it a cuddle.

goose1964 · 11/12/2017 23:04

I thought it was lucky in the UK but unlucky in the states

TitsNnails · 11/12/2017 23:07

In my case lucky. My black cat is on my lap and he is fabulous.

MyCatHasStaff · 11/12/2017 23:07

Whenever a black cat crosses your path it definitely means it's going somewhere.
Owner of 3 black cats. You're welcome Grin

MayFayner · 11/12/2017 23:09

If it crosses from left to right: good luck
Right to left: bad luck

Just don't quote me on that because I made it up, or someone did.

DramaAlpaca · 11/12/2017 23:10

To be lucky the black cat has to cross your path from left to right.

Before anyone asks, I have no idea where I heard this.

DramaAlpaca · 11/12/2017 23:16

Oh! Great x-post with MayFayner there!

Theresnonamesleft · 11/12/2017 23:19

So how comes us owners aren’t doomed to bad luck. Mine cross my path from all directions all the time.

MayFayner · 11/12/2017 23:19

Really, alpaca! I said don't quote me Grin

Rebeccaslicker · 11/12/2017 23:19

Depends if you're a mouse or not!

TotemIcePole · 11/12/2017 23:20

Lucky. Mine are beautiful Bear

DramaAlpaca · 11/12/2017 23:20

This gorgeous boy crossed my path nearly two years ago. He's brought nothing but pleasure. Good luck for sureSmile

This reminds me of the massive black cat that launched itself at my toddler... As it wanted a cuddle! Happy cat and happy DS, but I thought it wanted to claw his face off as it was so sudden Shock.

melj1213 · 11/12/2017 23:32

Another owner of black cats (two - tho one has a few white spots) here.

The only time black cats crossing my path is bad luck is if they try to do it as I am walking down stairs usually with a laundry basket or some such item that means I can't see them lurking on the step below

NoCanoe · 12/12/2017 00:01

All cats are lucky.
Especially black ones.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 12/12/2017 00:05

It depends if you are in the uk or the us.

In the uk a black cat crossing your path is good luck. In the US it’s bad luck.

I was a superstitions geek as a child, don’t judge me.

LazyLump · 12/12/2017 00:06

When my black cat has crossed my path it has been unlucky quite a few times as inevitably I step on her. She follows me everywhere. Damn thing won't learn Grin.
