Hi I was in McDonald's earlier - this is not the AIBU GrinWink

It was super busy.

One elder woman said its always busy on a Saturday as "its where all the single men take their kids instead of having to do anything with them"

Aww my dad used to take me to McDonald's on his weekends. I miss it.

TomatoTomAto · 09/12/2017 16:03

And...
Is that it? If it is then YA definitely BU 😂

AuntieStella · 09/12/2017 16:03

And what is your AIBU?

Because my first thought was YABU for dropping in a nice bit of casual ageism.

Grimbles · 09/12/2017 16:03

But taking them to maccas is doing something with them?

Sanshin · 09/12/2017 16:03

That should say I miss HIM, not McDonald's 😂

TheNaze73 · 09/12/2017 16:04
Biscuit
blackteasplease · 09/12/2017 16:04

Why would it be so bad if they Did?

VladmirsPoutine · 09/12/2017 16:04

To be fair, if said single men only have contact during weekends and dc don't usually venture to fast-food restaurants during the week I can't see anything wrong with it. Jobs a good'un.

Brandnewstart · 09/12/2017 16:05

God my ex wouldn't be seen dead in McDonalds, he's far too superior to eat there... the kids have to wait until they're with me for their happy meals Grin

EggysMom · 09/12/2017 16:07

Softplay on the weekend is similar, full of dads - either those who have weekend access, or those who have been told to get the "kids out of the house" by their wife!

[/stereotyping]

PizzaPower · 09/12/2017 16:08

Is this as apposed to Burger King where all the married men take their kids for dinner instead of having to do anything with them?

RancidOldHag · 09/12/2017 16:08

Yes, children are more seen in daytime in public places when it's not a school day.

Is there a MN award for 'stating the obvious'

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 09/12/2017 16:09

Im a single mum and I take my kids to McDonald’s some Saturdays. (Not all, they aren’t always good enough to deserve one Hmm Grin) why Saturdays? Because I’m off work and they’re off school and we’re in town at lunch time. Much like every one else there I would imagine.

zoomer445 · 09/12/2017 16:09

I didn't say it I just overheard if.

OP posts:
zoomer445 · 09/12/2017 16:09

It

OP posts:
DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 09/12/2017 16:11

What is your question OP?

zoomer445 · 09/12/2017 16:11

Sorry I didn't actually finish my post 😂😂

Well she was about 40 years older than me so she was older / elder.

OP posts:
zoomer445 · 09/12/2017 16:15

I meat to ask do you think she was unreasonable.

OP posts:
pullingmyhairout1 · 09/12/2017 16:20

Yes I think she was unreasonable. Lots of people go to lots of places for different reasons on their access weekend with their child.

JonSnowsWife · 09/12/2017 16:21

But that IS doing something with them?

It's bollock freezing cold at the minute. If Ex rang me and said I'm taking DCs to McDonalds, inside ✔ in the warm ✔ something other than pot noodles ✔ than taking them on a freezing bloody park just so they are seen to be doing something. (Its a couple of weeks before Christmas - not all of us have got money for cinemas/bowling/indoor golfing etc.

I wouldn't be bothered one bit.

JonSnowsWife · 09/12/2017 16:22

Yes I do think she was unreasonable.

None of her business what they were doing there.

SparklyUnicornPoo · 09/12/2017 16:22

My Dad and I used to go to McDonalds, he wasn't a single dad and we did loads together but every other Saturday we used to take Grandma to the market and then we'd drive her to the shops, mum would go shopping with her and we would get either McDonalds, greasy burger van food or sweets and cans of coke from the market and have a picnic in the car Grin we used to have to hide the wrappers before mum got back because her and Grandma felt eating in the car was terribly common.

ButchyRestingFace · 09/12/2017 16:22

I meat to ask do you think she was unreasonable.

You're asking us to opinion-ate on the aimless, random mutterings of a total stranger sitting in a McDonalds in Barrow in Furness (or wherever)?

BrizzleDrizzle · 09/12/2017 16:23

She's just buying into the Daily Mail stereotype of NRPs taking their children to McDonald's every time they see them rather than being proper parents.

Which is, of course, complete codswallop.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 09/12/2017 16:25

Sometimes parents like to feed their children. I think it’s quite nice actually. Wink
