McDonald's customer - single dads!

Hi I was in McDonald's earlier - this is not the AIBU GrinWink

It was super busy.

One elder woman said its always busy on a Saturday as "its where all the single men take their kids instead of having to do anything with them"

OP posts:

She is NBU. XH takes DC to McDonald's every time he has them.

limitedperiodonly · 09/12/2017 16:25

My mum used to take me to McDonald's on a Saturday. She would have their smallest burger, a small bag of chips and a tea and get me to order. She wanted nothing on the burger so I'd ask for a plain one to be freshly cooked. While we waited she always asked at least twice whether the checkout person had understood because 'I don't like onions.'

Then we would sit down and she would carefully arrange all the chips inside and eat it in both paws like a hamster, chatting and often putting it down to explain important points to me. It would take her about 30 minutes to eat it.

She was nearly 41 years older than me. I miss those Saturdays spent doing nothing.

JonSnowsWife · 09/12/2017 16:26

Ah @sparklyunicornpoo I used to love McDonalds car picnics as a child. Grin

SquirrelPlantedBeech · 09/12/2017 16:26

So what are you looking for here OP? Us to have a go at single dads, or us to have a go at older people?

FuzzyCustard · 09/12/2017 16:26

The only thing really concerning to me in your post is that fact that you felt you needed to mention the age of the person who commented. Ageism at its worst. Just stop it.

MissionItsPossible · 09/12/2017 16:27

SWBU for saying it and you too for not making sense in the first posts!

pisacake · 09/12/2017 16:27

Did you mean to be so goady?

itsgoodtobehome · 09/12/2017 16:28

Not just single dads. My DH will take DS to MaccyD's if they have had a day out without me. Actually I do too, and I'm not a single mum. Not sure what the point is?

PuppyMonkey · 09/12/2017 16:30

I can think of a lot worse places for someone to take their kids. Confused

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 09/12/2017 16:30

Ageism at its worst.

Ahh come on now! It’s hardly the worst!of ageism!!

AboutAGallonofDietCoke · 09/12/2017 16:31

So, saying someone is older than you is now ageism?
Ffs
If say my friend is shorter than me, is that heightism?
Seriously, turn it in.

zoomer445 · 09/12/2017 16:31

Sorry no real point I don't know why I wrote it. I'll try and get it deleted. Sorry I didn't mean to offend.

OP posts:
jarhead123 · 09/12/2017 16:32

My husband refuses to take our kids on his own because of this!

CheshireChat · 09/12/2017 16:34

Meh, I used to take DS to soft play on weekends as it's cheaper and there were a couple of single dads (I know because they told me) and I don't really see the issue, it's for the kids benefit at the end of the day.

Speaking of freezing parks, it was just me and DS out yesterday in the whole bloody park and we only managed about 1h30 and that's with the animal bit they have. If I didn't live so close I wouldn't bother again until we buy more winter gear.

ButchyRestingFace · 09/12/2017 16:34

It would be 'heightism' if you introduced your friend's height when it was totally irrelevant to the matter being discussed. Ie:

"Hi I was in McDonald's earlier - this is not the AIBU grinwink

It was super busy.

One short woman said its always busy on a Saturday as "its where all the single men take their kids instead of having to do anything with them"

AboutAGallonofDietCoke · 09/12/2017 16:35

Don’t be sorry OP, you’ve done nothing wrong. Some people are just trying their best to find something, anything, to be offended at.

CupOfFrothyCoffee · 09/12/2017 16:36

Because my first thought was YABU for dropping in a nice bit of casual ageism

Where? I must have missed it...Are you seriously saying because the OP used the word 'elder', it's ageism?

AuntieStella · 09/12/2017 16:38

"So, saying someone is older than you is now ageism?"

No, of course it isn't when it is necessary and relevant. I don't see how the age of the person who made the comment (as per OP) is either of those things.

Ageism is wrong.

Get used to it.

LockedOutOfMN · 09/12/2017 16:38

Our children would adore a trip to McDonalds. The fun of the interactive menu screens, a bit of people watching, wrestling with a ketchup sachet, and playing on the slide/jungle gym thing is often a damn sight more exciting than what's on offer at home of a Saturday afternoon, to be honest.

What does this woman think parents do with their children at home?

AboutAGallonofDietCoke · 09/12/2017 16:38

So we now should remove any descriptors out a story for fear someone take offence?

I’m sorry, people are simply looking for things to criticise the OP.

Utterly OTT

AboutAGallonofDietCoke · 09/12/2017 16:39

Ageism maybe Stella, this is not it though.

Get used to it.

limitedperiodonly · 09/12/2017 16:41

Don't get it deleted OP. I really like McDonald's. I hate working late but I've turned it into a good thing with the power of the clown. When I finish I always buy a quarter pounder with cheese and large fries at the station and leg it home. My personal best is seven minutes, by which time it's still warm. I'm working late on Monday and the treat is what gets me through Grin

ButchyRestingFace · 09/12/2017 16:41

So we now should remove any descriptors out a story for fear someone take offence?

Yes, that's EXACTLY what was said. To the very letter.

Hmm
WorraLiberty · 09/12/2017 16:41

Completely pointless threads is something I love about AIBU Xmas Grin

There was one yesterday where a builder's truck was blocking a road, so the OP advised the driver to move it.

He did and he apologised.

That was it Xmas Confused

Lemonnaise · 09/12/2017 16:41

Ageism at its worst

It isn't ageism in any way, shape or form. Stop looking for things to be offended about.
