Me vs Costa...

Went to a shopping centre this morning with ds. Wanted to stop for a coffee mid morning so went into one of the 2 costas in the retail park.
Ds is intolerant to soya, dairy and eggs, which means he essentially can't have anything that Costa sell. (Bread contains soya, crumpets have eggs in and cakes are self explanatory. They also prepare stuff in the same area, so cross contamination is highly possible) I don't want him eating a bag of salt and vinegar crisps, so I normally take a bag of Ella's puffs snacks or similar. (He's 15 months).
Bought myself a coffee and cake and sat down with ds and his snack. He's happily chomping through his snack and an employee brought my drink over and asked if I had bought the snack ds was eating from there... I explained not and that he can't eat anything from there because as far as I am aware most of the foods are unsuitable for his dietary needs. She basically asked me to either leave or put the snacks away.
So was I wrong for bringing my own snacks or was I being reasonable since he really can't eat anything from there?
The only other 2 places to eat within that retail park would have been the same I.e they sell cakes/snack style foods.

You sound like the asshole. She was doing her job. Head office will tell you exactly that if you ask them.

I have a food allergy son (3 years old)and Costa is our go to place as they are so helpful. They even warm up and give me a cup so he can have a drink like his brother, with his own milk that I bring in. This isn’t the usual experience that I have had I think it was just the employee you had on that day. Other places including our local soft play however can be just nasty and it’s horrible seeing him excluded from his friends.

I can't imagine anyone telling a parent they can't give their child a snack they brought with them into a coffee shop. I think that it terrible and a sure fire way of losing costumers.

I often eat my own snacks in Costa with a coffee i have bought and no one has ever stopped me.

I despise paying over the odds for drinks.

Then make and drink your drinks at home, or go to a cheaper cafe.

I am astonished at the number of people here who are so keen to try and get a low-paid service worker disciplined or sacked for trying to do the pretty standard industry thing of asking customers not to bring their own food out in a cafe.

I often find there staff rude and your right about cross contamination as they don't clean area proper your baby health is the priority here not that it's anything else to do with them and surely she knew you didn't buy snack from there if that's there attitude to paying customers I'm not taking my babies near I live near a Costa drive through I've heard staff Swear at customers who complain about there order fair play for you doing what's right for u and ur child

If it kicked off i would ask for the manager and/or get everyone's name and get writing to HQ. Just think how many coffees you could get with the voucher you'd receive!

I hate this attitude!
