Help me settle an argument re: Christmas chocolates

We're going to my parents for Christmas and splitting the food shop between us (4 people plus baby) I've been tasked with getting puddings and sweets.

I said, in passing, something about a tub of Quality Street and DH has kicked up a fuss because 'they're rank'. They're not, he just doesn't like them.

AIBU to say that the only true Christmas sweets are either Roses or Quality Street and these new kids on the block (Heroes & Celebrations) are just pretenders to the throne??

Anything Cadbury is just a little step higher than the Hershey's and other American sweets, which are the most disgusting thing in the world when it comes to sweets.
At least Lindt and other proper chocolates, we are no big eaters in our house and wouldn't spend our Christmas stuffing our faces with food but if it's chocolate, it has to be good quality. We also like supporting our local chocolate pralines producers so we shop there before Christmas for goodies.

I have tested them thoroughly and wrapped a third box for DC3 to give me for Christmas.

What thought fun children you have! You are a lucky, lucky girl Mrs H. Grin

I love the lidl orange cremes, lemon cremes & mint cremes. In tubes. Yummy scrummy deliciousness but Can't recommend a whole tube in 1 night

@MrsHathaway Hotel Chocolat do a 6 pack of violet and rose creams. Or three packs for just under a tenner.

I looked at droste on Amazon... But Sadthey also have soy in now

Nettletheelf · 07/12/2017 17:52

The last time I saw Droste was in a duty free shop in Poland. Shame they are now shoving soy into their once-delightful pastilles.

Someone gave me a tub of quality street last year. They were horrible! We always had a tin at Christmas when I was growing up but these were revolting.

we no longer get tubs of chocolates would rather have fudge, jelly beans etc

jennielou75 · 07/12/2017 18:58

Hotel Chocolat had 15% off today for their Christmas shopping day. I might have bought some including an advent calendar!

Nettletheelf · 07/12/2017 19:08

Me too Jennie. I was buying some stuff for a vegan rellie and was pleased (but somewhat surprised) to see that our HC shop has a ‘vegan corner’. Are there that many chocolate loving vegans??

AlexanderHamilton · 09/12/2017 14:46

Dh bought me a HC advent calendar today. I've just been 'catching up'. He also bought my favourite Dizzy Pralines.
