to be ok with being my current size

Before my son was born 3 years ago, I was 9stone. I am 5ft tall.

According to BMI and healthy weight ranges, this was near the top of the range but I was happy and felt slim. Since my son was born I have gained 2 stone. Partly due to age, an underactive thyroid diagnosis and just pure gluttony. We've been on holiday 3 times where a bikini/swimwear have been worn. Whilst I haven't felt great, I also haven't felt hideous. It's just my tummy that I have an issue with.

I have been trying to lose weight for some time and I cant. I'[m not going to blame my illness or anything but I just enjoy life and food.

I have gone from a 10-12 to a 14.

I feel OK in my skin on a day to day basis. Yes, I look back at old photos and wish I was that size again but I don't have the energy or determination to get back down to my ideal size. And I like my food too much!

Th only time I ever feel conscious is in swimwear/underwear. I've learnt to accept who I am.

So, is it ok to give up on that ultimate goal that I now feel isn't achievable?

By the way, the MM diet is very very similar to the keto diet mentioned above. I honestly think low carb is the way to go for many people.

In low energy states like ME you need complex carbs for energy.

Also it's worth bearing in mind that research from the US has shown a higher than standard incidence of kidney disease in ME/CFS patients. High levels of protein is not good for your kidneys long term, indeed it can accelerate kidney disease in those who already have it.

@cjt110 Fair play, you're a damn sight fitter than me and I'm 9 stone 5.6! You cannot ignore how Hypothyroidism affects your weight, it just does. I'd probably carry on doing what you're doing and ditch the sweet stuff and be mindful about portion sizes. 👍

I lost weight low carbing OP, but running on a low-carb diet is hard and not much fun IME.

There's loads of science on line about being fat-adapted and having great stamina running on low-carb, but it hasn't worked for me unfortunately.

Ok, well -
YABU for giving up on yourself. You need to be your own advocate here!
YABU for focussing on your old self. You need to think about the here and now and the changes you can make to your current self. Just because you've been 9 stone before, doesn't mean that's the right size for you. YABU to focus on numbers rather than physical and mental health!
YANBU to change your goals. You've recognised - in some way - it's not achievable to set goals backwards facing.

It's way more helpful for weight loss to change the attitudes and mentality towards overeating (you call it gluttony) and look at the reasons why. Diet is way more impactful than exercise, though exercise will benefit your physical and mental health as well.

Sorry for the delayed response Smile It's a long journey, I'm still making changes to the way I look at food and consume. I've lost weight though and maintained for over a year.
