To be disappointed/peed off with CBeebies?

ButterfliesAreWeird · 04/12/2017 20:07

Today I bought my son the monthly CBeebies magazine and this was smack bang in the middle of it. It was supposed to be about doctors but this is just promoting cancer, heart disease, diabetes, ect. I'm no vegan but I know when I'm sitting there eating a cheese and egg sandwich that it's not good for me, yet this is stating it's vital to have 2 unhealthy groups of food each day to be healthy. This gos against the NHS, the WHO, and just science in general. I would have expected this 10 years ago but it's 2017 and we know better.

To be disappointed/peed off with CBeebies?

Sorry. This thread made me think of this song.

I'll be over in the corner waiting for facts about cheese causing cancer.
Thishatisnotmine · 04/12/2017 21:27

Well it is all nonsense. It is December so children get 75% of their nutrients from advent calendars and chocolate Christmas tree decorations handed to them by grandparents.

CancellyMcChequeface · 04/12/2017 21:28

The most unhealthy thing on that wheel is all the carbs. Wink

MsJaneAusten · 04/12/2017 21:28

Are the peer reviewed studies not here yet?
Damn! That's what I came on for...

gingergenius · 04/12/2017 21:28

Bless odd hell when my eldest was tiny all he would eat was cocktail sausages, garlic bread, peas straight from the freezer, broccoli and raw carrots and milk. And not all in the same time span!

You do what you have to do to get through.

Nacknick · 04/12/2017 21:30

Still waiting for the peer reviewed studies you promised OP....

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 04/12/2017 21:32

Why not come back and debate your point? Back it up with your research? Convince us that we are out of date?

....

....

Not much to say really

StreyyTV · 04/12/2017 21:33

Ok I guess people don't understand nutrition. Fair enough. Would you like me to find you some peer reviewed studies?

Yes, yes I would. You are claiming dairy causes cancer. I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect you to back that up with a source or two.

yumyumpoppycat · 04/12/2017 21:33

That is a healthy diet for a child - the general reader of the cbeebies magazine. Not sure exactly what diet has to do with cbeebies but still hardly the most offensive centrefold ever published in a magazine!

SparklingSnowfall · 04/12/2017 21:35

YABU!

GruffaloPants · 04/12/2017 21:37

Just to get things started, here's a systematic review around dairy, T2D and cardiovascular outcomes. It actively refutes the OP.

maddiemookins16mum · 04/12/2017 21:38

A cheese omelette is nice in a bap.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 04/12/2017 21:39

So where are we on the peer reviewed studies?

Are they proving hard to find?

yumyumpoppycat · 04/12/2017 21:39

I would have expected this 10 years ago....bloody hell that's only 2007! How old are you OP? Actually nutrition was being heavily pushed at school when my ds was little, only fruit and veg for snack etc and it is hardly mentioned now that his younger sister is at the same school.

Systemoverload99 · 04/12/2017 21:39

I think sending my children to school on scrambled eggs and a bit of grated cheese is a great breakfast!!

donquixotedelamancha · 04/12/2017 21:40

"As you’ve been told you’re wrong from people who know better, unless you’re a scientist directly involved in these ‘studies’. Since your reading level is CBeebies magazine, I very much doubt it."

In fairness, OP didn't understand what the CBeebies magazine was explaining, hence the reason we are all on this thread.

Given this gem: "Ok I guess people don't understand nutrition". I think its pretty clear that either OP is (successfully) winding us all up, or they probably aren't responsible for feeding themselves.

TheElementsSong · 04/12/2017 21:40

I'm a scientist. I'm good at understanding peer-reviewed studies.

^^

^^

Nofunkingworriesmate · 04/12/2017 21:41

Your poor thing, feeling bad for eating an egg and cheese sandwich how miserable it must be to feel bad about that ! I only feel ( slightly) bad when I'm at a buffet and on my 3rd round of cheese and crisps sandwiches

SpareASquare · 04/12/2017 21:44

Ok I guess people don't understand nutrition. Fair enough. Would you like me to find you some peer reviewed studies?

Yes please

Bunnyjo · 04/12/2017 21:45

OP, I have a BSc in Physiological Science and a Masters in Cancer Research. I'm about to embark on a PhD in the field of molecular cell biology, specifically novel splice variants of HER-2 in breast tumours.

I'd love to read the peer reviewed literature that supports your claims.

slippermaiden · 04/12/2017 21:50

Eggs are really good for you! Cheese gives protein and calcium so is good in moderation. This magazine is aimed at under 5s who need these things in their diet, vegan kids take supplements to get what they need. There's nothing wrong with that, but these foods are part of a balanced diet.

ILikeThatSong123 · 04/12/2017 21:54

Cheese and egg sandwich could taste just like cheesy omelette if you add the grated cheese pm top of the recently-boiled-still-hot-sliced egg. Cheese melts on top of the hot egg slice and tastes just like omelette. I think it's delicious.

bangingmyheadoffabrickwall · 04/12/2017 21:56

PMSL! I'm dying at this!

Awaiting the peer reviewed studies (or whatever they are!)

ILikeThatSong123 · 04/12/2017 21:57

In a sandwich, as well as on a plate.
