To be disappointed/peed off with CBeebies?

ButterfliesAreWeird · 04/12/2017 20:07

Today I bought my son the monthly CBeebies magazine and this was smack bang in the middle of it. It was supposed to be about doctors but this is just promoting cancer, heart disease, diabetes, ect. I'm no vegan but I know when I'm sitting there eating a cheese and egg sandwich that it's not good for me, yet this is stating it's vital to have 2 unhealthy groups of food each day to be healthy. This gos against the NHS, the WHO, and just science in general. I would have expected this 10 years ago but it's 2017 and we know better.

Peanut butter is used to feed starving children as it's very palatable, easily transported, stored and eaten without preparation, and very calorie dense.

Not because eggs are poisonous. Where are you getting this information from??

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 04/12/2017 21:08

The only way a cheese and egg sandwich should be eaten is fried egg with that nasty plasticky cheese...

Yum

Otherwise it should be an egg sandwich OR a cheese one...FACT

I dont know whats wrong with some people Hmm

AnachronisticCorpse · 04/12/2017 21:09

Cheese should be liberally flung over chips and covered with hot gravy.

Originalfoogirl · 04/12/2017 21:09

Do not pass go, do not collect your "get well soon" badge

I miss Dr Ranj. Our girl is 8 and past c-beebies now.

However, we do get Dr Chris and Dr Xand now, so that helps. 😄

gingergenius · 04/12/2017 21:09

@ButterfliesAreWeird you do know that cheese and eggs have the fat and protein (not to mention vitamin e and calcium) that kids need? So what is it about eggs and cheese that is so dangerous??

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 04/12/2017 21:10

Peanut butter!!

Its not fucking healthy if youre allergic to peanuts!!!!

People are allergic to eggs though...

Are some people allergic to cheese?

Must be I suppose

FFS Confused

GinIsIn · 04/12/2017 21:11

Do you drive, OP? Do you wear cosmetics? Because there are a list of about a million things proven to increase the risk of cancer. Your thread sounds more than slightly like one of those batshit daily mail articles. www.anorak.co.uk/288298/tabloids/the-daily-mails-list-of-things-that-give-you-cancer-from-a-to-z.html/

geekone · 04/12/2017 21:11

Go on the bring out the studies then but no nonsense from the internet sponsored by specific social groups. Actual medical journals please, not the synopsis by the daily mail or BBC news, full articles with scientific findings
Xox Dr Geekone

jaseyraex · 04/12/2017 21:12

This thread is bonkers. An egg and cheese sandwich?! Put it on a mcmuffin with some bacon and then we'll talk Grin

geekone · 04/12/2017 21:12

Oh and mashed boiled egg, strong white cheese, butter on bleached white bread yummmm

Starlight2345 · 04/12/2017 21:13

I can't even see them suggesting eat an egg and cheese sandwich..They are saying try a new piece of fruit , eat all my vegetables...No where do they say eat an egg and cheese Sandwich..

My son's school is going on a school trip,, choice egg, cheese or ham sandwich... No issue.

If you want to be a health freak knock yourself out but there is no concerns for a child to eat any of those things. Calcium is really important as they are growing at such a rate in pre school. Protien builds muscles and to be honest not many pre schoolers I know love lentils and butter beans.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 04/12/2017 21:13

ancronistic

Cheese should be liberally flung over chips and covered with hot gravy

When i became a vegetarian (pescatarian now) thats what i got instead of the meat

A chunk of cheese...sometimes covered with gravy, which i then couldnt eat. Sometimes they would grate the cheese, only at posh restaurants though

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 04/12/2017 21:13

And he'd have to eat far more than he can manage, because CF affects your appetite, to get enough fat if he were vegan. Or would you like to argue with the CF Trust's Nutrition booklet?

lurkingnotlurking · 04/12/2017 21:15

Cheese in scrambled egg... Bring it on

SaneAsABoxOfFrogs · 04/12/2017 21:15

My son is allergic to eggs, dairy and nuts and it is bloody hard to get him all the fats, calcium etc. he needs. Green leafy vegetables and avocadoes are all very well, but he's just turned 3 and every meal is a battle. I'd be delighted if he could eat the varied diet shown.

Sara107 · 04/12/2017 21:16

Looks like standard healthy dietary advice. Children need more calorie dense food than adults ( in appropriate portion sizes) and they need the nutrients from eggs, dairy, bread etc. If you choose to omit these food groups you need to be careful that your child is getting the nutrients from something else.

blueskyinmarch · 04/12/2017 21:16

@ButterfliesAreWeird I don't know why you think from my post that i am not aware of what constitutes healthy fats and proteins. Thing is i believe that eggs, meat and dairy are healthy sources of fat and protein. I also know that nuts are good too. Away with your patronising tone.

falange · 04/12/2017 21:19

A cheese sandwich is good for you. An egg sandwich is good for you. Cheese and egg together in a sandwich is odd.

ghostyslovesheets · 04/12/2017 21:20

Would you like me to find you some peer reviewed studies

yes please

Zoomaa · 04/12/2017 21:20

Cheese in scrambled eggs?

You are sick in the head my friend

TheLegendOfBeans · 04/12/2017 21:20

I am 1000% having a McMuffin tomorrow morning

Thank you OP

RebelRogue · 04/12/2017 21:24

Everything gives you cancer....enjoy the grass from your garden, just make sure it's free of all (bug and worm) meat because cancer, diabetes, heart disease.

MumGoneMild · 04/12/2017 21:24

I had a kfc festive feast for dinner
That's good protein right?

hellofresh · 04/12/2017 21:25

' this is stating it's vital to have 2 unhealthy groups of food each day'

None of the foods on the wheel are unhealthy.

Meat, fish, eggs and dairy are vital sources of essential fats, vitamins and minerals. They are also natural unprocessed foods.

Children are growing, they need a varied diet for optimum nutrition.
