Help settle a debate.

Best British accent for me is northern Welsh. especially in men but I'm also a sucker for Geordie and a nice light brummie.

Scottish

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 03/12/2017 02:05

Yorkshire!

Whoyagonna · 03/12/2017 02:12

Manchester.

treaclesoda · 03/12/2017 02:12

Yorkshire for me too.

On a separate issue, it must be utterly rage inducing to be Irish and see people say they like 'southern Irish' accents on a thread asking for your favourite British accent.

Thegirlinthefireplace · 03/12/2017 02:13

Another vote for Welsh with Geordie second place.

Some people seem to think Ireland is Britain 😐

DullAndOld · 03/12/2017 02:17

" Some people seem to think Ireland is Britain "

well i suppose it is...of these islands...and so many Brits have Irish relatives , they get confused.

I find it more annoying when people say 'England' or 'English' when they mean Wales/Scotland/NI...

DullAndOld · 03/12/2017 02:20

..or Londoners who think civilised life stops at Barnet...

" Dull, You’ve no idea. "

no idea of what duck?

WashingMatilda · 03/12/2017 02:47

See, I really don't like the northern Irish, it sounds incredibly nasal to me.
I'm surprised at myself for liking brummie, it's quite a controversial one isn't it?

No votes for Lancashire yet which I also love! I lived in Preston for three years and loved it, so maybe it has good memories.

Another vote for Bristol/west country. DH was born there but moved when he was 7 so never really picked up the accent gutted

@brapbrapbrap - what's your definition of 'posh'?

treaclesoda · 03/12/2017 02:52

See, I really don't like the northern Irish, it sounds incredibly nasal to me.

N Irish accents vary hugely. For such a small place, the range of accents is mind boggling.

My dad was interviewed on Radio 5 during indyref and the announcer commented after it that he had a gorgeous accent. She was quite giddy about it and we teased him mercilessly for ages! He has a very pronounced Hebridean accent.

AfterSchoolWorry · 03/12/2017 03:20

Liverpool

wasMissD · 03/12/2017 03:53

Definitely a Yorkshire accent!

wasMissD · 03/12/2017 03:53

Lancashire close second

Kickassname · 03/12/2017 04:11

North Yorkshire is a lovely Yorkshire accent. Beautiful countryside too.

BrizzleDrizzle · 03/12/2017 04:22

Bristolian, I love my accent.

BikeRunSki · 03/12/2017 04:25

Geordie, but Glasgow a very, very close second for its association with someone I once knew. He could make me swoon from 100 m I swear.

SenecaFalls · 03/12/2017 04:25

Another vote for Hebridean.

Toadinthehole · 03/12/2017 07:04

Like: posh RP, Geordie, Scouse, highland Scottish, Dublin.

Also like standard RP: more commonly heard outside the UK now (ie, well-spoken Aussies, Kiwis and white South Africans)

Dislike: that weird patois people speak in London now: the speech equivalent of a child's lazy scribble.

Fadingmemory · 03/12/2017 07:05

Geordie

AlpacaLypse · 03/12/2017 07:09

RP.

Stillwishihadabs · 03/12/2017 07:12

I luffs a Sheffield accent (Jarvis Coker and the full Monty) sort of soft Northern soo sexy
