Help settle a debate.

Best British accent for me is northern Welsh. especially in men but I'm also a sucker for Geordie and a nice light brummie.

Northern Irish - especially on men, sounds very sexy to me
Geordie - lovely accent, very soft and lilting
North London - like the way Amy Winehouse spoke
Somerset - very soft

Had a beastly boss who was Welsh - prior to that I liked the accent, now it gives me the rage.

A snippet of Shakespeare in Original Pronunciation

heron98 · 04/12/2017 15:27

I love the Geordie accent. If I wasn't me (Yorkshire), I'd first like to be French and then failing that Geordie.

heron98 · 04/12/2017 15:29

Also there's a woman in my office from Burnley and I love her accent, it's sounds so gentle and friendly.

Trinity66 · 04/12/2017 15:32

Love Cork, Edinburgh, North Wales and some soft Glasgow.

I'm from Cork so thanks, I'm not British though Angry

Agerbilatemycardigan · 04/12/2017 15:33

I have an ex who has the sexiest soft Welsh lilt. Still makes me moist Blush

FoofFighter · 04/12/2017 15:39

Love the brummie (biased), Black Country and Liverpudlian accents, as they sound very friendly and down to earth.

Also find the Wiltshire accent very soothing :)

There's really none I find offensive but not awfully keen on Glaswegian

notthegumdropbuttons · 04/12/2017 15:43

There's something I adore about the Scouse accent on women. It reminds me of my lovely friend and her family but there's also just something really friendly about it.

On men I love RP.

Efnisien · 04/12/2017 19:40

Maiden,Yes I know there are differences all over North Wales.I'm not a Bangor aye or a Cofi however.I guess I like all regional Welsh accents. It's funny how different they can be despite only being twenty or so miles away in each direction.

BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot · 04/12/2017 20:05

Lancashire. Proper broad Lancashire accents are lovely

peanut2017 · 04/12/2017 20:50

This is precisely why people shouldn't get confused. British people should be aware of what is and isn't in their country. And at the very least the 25% with Irish ancestry should understand just why so many of us find it offensive to be called British.

I can completely understand why these threads make people think of Irish accents they may like - close neighbours with the same language etc. But all it takes is to preface your comment with "Not British, but..." - as the first poster on this thread to mention an Irish accent did.

Totally agree with the above. It's fair enough to say 'I know it's not what the op asked for but I do like an Irish accent'. Think there needs to be some sensitivity around this and an education on the relationship between Ireland and the Uk especially with this whole brexit debacle. The level of ignorance around Ireland is astounding.

flimflaminurjams · 05/12/2017 09:08

I don't think most people meant it as "Ireland is part of Britain", but more of a, "oh and also accents of ROI" as a complement that they like the way they speak.

We know you're not part of Britain, we respect that and loves you and your accents Xmas Smile

Lets not turn a light hearted thread into a "All you Brits are ignorant" rant.

InsomniacAnonymous · 05/12/2017 10:51

WashingMatilda "Insomniac James Ellis' accent is absolute perfection, agreed."

James Ellis is a N.I actor. I was referring to Elis James from Carmarthen.

Cctv923 · 05/12/2017 11:35

Hate scouse accents. The constant use of the word "like"

Geordie is ok for me and posh from Home Counties etc.

Debby08 · 05/12/2017 11:43

I love scottish, it's like song to my ears whenever I hear someone with such heavy accent :D

sadcaptains · 05/12/2017 12:11

I love a Northern accent - especially Mancunian Grin

choseAUsername · 05/12/2017 12:24

I love DH's. Gyles Brandreth but Malcolm Tucker's vocabulary.

DinaCaliente · 05/12/2017 12:26

Same as a previous poster, I'm from Hampshire and I love the Yorkshire accent.

badabing36 · 05/12/2017 13:00

I love the Bristol accent also, a Swansea/South Wales accent. I also love derry/londonderry and also a Glasgow and a nice scouse. I'm from Yorkshire and quite like my own accent too though. So pretty much every accent Grin

I also love the South London accent, just not when kids from Yorkshire put it on!

Davespecifico · 05/12/2017 13:06

Welsh and Scottish when English is their 2nd language. Posh Geordie, posh Scottish and posh Liverpudlian e.g. Winifred Robinson. RP- like me.
I don’t like the bit of Cheshire that sounds a bit Stokey.

IckyPop · 05/12/2017 13:19

Scottish - esp East coast (Edinburgh, Fife, Aberdeen).
Oh and Cerys Matthews. I could listen to her all day. Xmas Grin

LivLemler · 05/12/2017 13:19

I don't think most people meant it as "Ireland is part of Britain", but more of a, "oh and also accents of ROI" as a complement that they like the way they speak.

That's fine, just caveat it.

bogofeternalstench · 05/12/2017 13:34

South Wales
Highlands
West Country

I'm afraid Scouse grates on me as does Estuary and Cockney.

Fluffy40 · 05/12/2017 13:35

I love welsh accents.

LegallyBrunet · 05/12/2017 22:08

I love the Scottish and Yorkshire accents.
Also, what's the obsession with Geordie accents? I'm not a Geordie myself but I'm from quite near Newcastle and can't see the attraction myself.
