Help settle a debate.

Best British accent for me is northern Welsh. especially in men but I'm also a sucker for Geordie and a nice light brummie.

What is JAFAICAN accent @BuzzKillington?

Another vote here for the lovely, genial GEORDIE accent.

Scouse makes me smile too. Always sound friendly.

And any Yorkshire accent. (Beautiful county too!)

Many Scots ones are lovely too, and some N.I. ones.

GreyOwls · 03/12/2017 00:34

Geordie all the way. Such a lovely accent and very sexy. I also like a soft southern Irish accent and Yorkshire’s not bad either.

Cant abide the Liverpool, Birmingham, Black Country, or Northern Ireland accents though.

I dont think there is a generic ‘southern England’ accent is there? That could be North London (which to me sounds like Essex), Kent, Devon, estuary etc.. Or do people mean RP or perhaps BBC English?

AnnabelleLecter · 03/12/2017 00:36

Brummie

I am from North Wales so the op made me smile. Our accent to my ears isn't the prettiest. For me is the Northern Irish swiftly followed by a really strong Scottish.

GreyOwls · 03/12/2017 00:43

gamerchic it’s because Geordie is very melodic and soothing and has an open, friendly quality, especially when you listen to people from further south such as Sunderland, Durham etc.. It reminds me of the Welsh accent.

My dad is a Geordie although moved to NW England over fifty years ago. Washington/Co. Durham accent is a softer version of Newcastle/Tyneside accent so I will say that I prefer that, really. NB my dad's accent only really sounds on the phone now, although I have plenty of family still living up there with accents you could cut with a knife. Haway, man, ah nivver hoard oot leek it in al me leef, ya knaw? Grin

alphajuliet123 · 03/12/2017 00:48

Interesting that the majority prefer northern accents. Can't beat a Geordie or Scouse lilt, though I also love the south west, Bristol down to Cornwall.

Treeballarae · 03/12/2017 00:50

Inverness, Orkney or Aberdeen accents are just lovely.

Nettletheelf · 03/12/2017 00:52

Geordies sound whiny, I’m afraid. Sorry, geordies!

liz70 · 03/12/2017 00:53

Oh, and Dundonian/Tayside accents are very pleasant too. Smile

liz70 · 03/12/2017 00:55

Aw, haddaway an shite, Nettle!

I like Welsh. (Am a Londoner). There aren't really any accents I don't like.

tobee · 03/12/2017 01:14

There's very varied accents just in different cities and areas. For example Liverpool: John Lennon's drawl (more middle class?) versus Paul McCartney's sing song, chipper (more working class?) accents.

So it depends.

Having said that, I love a soft Edinburgh (maybe Morningside?)Grin

ObscuredbyFog · 03/12/2017 01:17

north Yorkshire wealthy farmer to be precise I like that too.

Laurence Fox in Lewis, soft regional accents like Orcadian and Cumbrian.

MsGameandWatching · 03/12/2017 01:22

The hottest bloke I ever met and had er, relations with was from Stoke. I know it's not considered a nice accent but I have a soft spot for it Grin

CakesRUs · 03/12/2017 01:22

It amazes me, for a tiny island, the scope and distinct differences of accents we have.

I think Brummie's sound friendly. Welsh accent is my fave.

brapbrapbrap · 03/12/2017 01:35

Southern. SE to be precise. It's just very clear and understandable.

Weedsnseeds1 · 03/12/2017 01:36

I like Irish accents, both north and south, although Cork people speak a little fast sometimes. Dublin can also be a bit, not sure how to describe it, slurry?
My accent is fairly neutral with a bit of west country, but Bristol accent is a law unto itself " I drove my toyotal to asdl because I had an ideal for tea"

brapbrapbrap · 03/12/2017 01:37

I've never heard a posh northern accent. (Sorry, I really did think it was an oxymoron!) Can anyone give any examples of famous people who are posh and northern?

brapbrapbrap · 03/12/2017 01:39

*'Northern' being anything north of London Grin

DullAndOld · 03/12/2017 01:42

brapbrap it's people like you that give 'southerners' a bad name..you do sound ignorant.

StarWarsFanatic · 03/12/2017 02:01

I hate how scousers sound on TV but love it in real life. I like any proper accents if you know what I mean as opposed to generic not-quite-posh-but-no-telling-where-they're-from accents.
