To hate Christmas jumpers and pyjamas

They weren't a thing when I was growing up, so no warm fuzzy memories attached to them. I look at them and all I see is the worst of disposable fashion made for pennies in Bangladeshi sweatshops. FFS, clothes specifically designed to be worn once as a joke? No wonder the world is goung to hell in a handcart.

And don't forget
the bathroom

LunasSpectreSpecs · 02/12/2017 20:51

It's not like people buy festive items and throw them out and replace them each year

You might not, but people DO buy new every year. If your child grows, and you've not bought a too-big jumper one year, you'll need a new one the next. People decide they want a silver and purple tree, or a gold and pink or whatever and buy new stuff. If you haven't the room to store boxes of festive stuff, it gets chucked and you buy new.

greenlynx · 02/12/2017 20:51

I have "winter theme " jumper and wore it when it's cold (usually in winter), DD has winter jumper from last year and will wear some Xmas accessories with it for school lunch etc. DH never had Xmas jumper, he seems ok.

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2017 20:53

I think the charity shops are testimony that people do buy new every year.

GingerbreadMa · 02/12/2017 20:58

I dont like it either, the point of getting socks and PJs for Christmas was that they were your PJS and socks...for every day use! Doesnt work with christmas THEMED socks and PJs because you dont want to still be wearing christmas socks in march
Socks you GOT at christmas are good in march if theyre NORMAL SOCKS.

By giving Christmas THEMED gifts youre making your gift redundant. At one point we had more christmas tea towels and mugs than normal ones, and still had to buy/replenish our own every day mugs! I got rid of them all.

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 02/12/2017 20:59

My gran would have absolutely loved that Sparkling. Her birthday was in August, but we'd buy her Christmas themed napkins or trays from the market and give them to her on her birthday. Her house was like a Santa's grotto all through December.

Glumglowworm · 02/12/2017 21:00

I have Christmas bedding that’s now on its third year, it goes on for most of December (it gets washed and put back on regularly!)

I resisted the urge to buy more because it’s a waste of money that I can’t afford, but if other people can then that’s their choice.

I’ve seen plenty of adults walking round in Christmas jumpers already, I run quite warm so don’t wear jumpers much anyway but I do wear it for several Christmas events throughout December and on Christmas Day itself. And children can wear almost-outgrown jumpers for messy play at anytime, we had a Brownie wear hers from at least last year if not the year before to pack holiday in September because we told them to wear old clothes that could get messy.

FFS Captain Buzzkill, what are you talking about? you don't wear them once and throw them out, you wear them multiple times over an entire month and then keep them til next year.

If you're going to give out about something completely harmless at least get it right. And I had one way back in the mists of time when I was a kid, they are not new!

HoneyDragon · 02/12/2017 21:02

I’ve had my Christmas bedding 9 years. Normal cotton not brushed Sparkers Grin

Ecureuil · 02/12/2017 21:03

My knitted Christmas jumper is 5 years old.
DD2 is wearing DD1’s Christmas jumper from last year. DD2’s jumper was handed down to friend’s baby. DD1 has one that was handed down from a friend.
Not ‘disposable’ at all.

AdoraBell · 02/12/2017 21:05

I can’t stand the bloody things but I buy them for DC because they, along with many others, do like them.

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2017 21:06

Grin Honey, I bet it's lovely and soft after 9 years.

I have just remembered that I have splashed out this year and we have Christmas tissues, and Christmas loo roll so I am sort of joining in.

TheOriginalNNB · 02/12/2017 21:07

You’re all going on about disposability (or not) but do you not just think it’s a bit naff on anyone over the age of 13?!

I can’t be alone in this

Ecureuil · 02/12/2017 21:09

but do you not just think it’s a bit naff on anyone over the age of 13?!

Well yeah. But that’s kind of the point, isn’t it?
I bet you do/wear things that other people think are naff too.

Ecureuil · 02/12/2017 21:09

Plus my DC are 4 and 2 so they can get away with it!

Tootiedee · 02/12/2017 21:12

@luna that's like any jumper you buy for a young child, chances are they'll be no good for next year.

I honestly do not believe that people through out boxes of festive items every year due to lack of storage.

People changing colour themes yep I'll go with that but not for lack of storage.

These threads moaning about anyone who puts decorations up before Christmas Eve, doesn't follow that stupid 4 rule poem, does xmas eve boxes are getting old.

Op the majority of people on this thread have said they reuse their Christmas jumpers/bedding year after year. I hope that helps you sleep a little better tonight 😴.

I'm off to knit some wrapping paper for my child's lump of coal using the wool I've painstakingly unraveled from all of my disposable Christmas jumpers now.

Bubblebubblepop · 02/12/2017 21:12

" No wonder the world is goung to hell in a handcart."

This is, without question, the funniest and also most hysterical reaction ever to Xmas jumpers

I’ve got lovely soft brushed cotton bed linen for one of sons with Christmas hat wearing pugs/grumpy cats on.

You will be pleased to hear that due to my slovenly ways/poorness he’s had it in his bed since last Christmas and I’m just fucking relieved Christmas had now come round again so I look organised and ‘trying hard’ rather than just a total mess 😂

Acadia · 02/12/2017 21:15

I do not buy any Christmas themed clothes. It's only in the last few years this nonsense was even a thing - "ugly" jumpers and so on - and I'm baffled it keeps coming back.

The sheer amount of tat is staggering. Who even has the space for Christmas crockery, linens, towels, welcome mats, massive wall murals... where do you keep this shit the rest of the year?

Bubblebubblepop · 02/12/2017 21:18

What's the difference between buying a Xmas jumper and wearing it twice before disposal and buying a skirt from primark and wearing it 3 times? Disposable clothing is an all year round thing- save your angst!

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 02/12/2017 21:18

GingerbreadMa why can't you wear Christmas themed socks in March? Xmas Confused

itusedtobeverydifferent · 02/12/2017 21:19

Oh god I love them. No pressure to dress up in something uncomfortable and dressy for Christmas when a Christmas jumper will suffice! Loose, comfy and goes with jeans or leggings a treat!

MrsJBaptiste · 02/12/2017 21:20

I've spent the day wearing my Christmas jumper decorating the tree, listening to Christmas songs on the radio and have just put my frezhly washed Christmas bedding on. So shoot me.

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2017 21:22

I couldn't wear Christmas socks in March, it would be weird. But then it bothered me when DS had days of the week ones and he wore ones on the wrong day.
