To ask for ideas for presents for 8/9 yr old girl?

I don't want to ask her parents, who are good friends, as they always get such thoughtful gifts for my kids. I don't see the girl very often so not sure what she is into. Fashion or toys? I would like to spend between 15-20 pounds. Any ideas what girls this age are generally into please?

My daughter is 7. She wants everything that she sees. She likes Shopkins, books, crafts, Lego, she wants to be a scientist, so she likes science sets. She loves makeup and stuffed animals.

Books are always a safe bet. My DD is 8 and likes the Worst Witch books by Jill Murphy. Also likes Harry Potter. I wouldn't buy stuff like make up if I were you ... I wouldn't be pleased if someone bought that for my daughter (although I would appear grateful at the time!).

Bonelessbanquet · 02/12/2017 17:58

Slime seems to be big this year, as do craft sets.

drivingmisspotty · 02/12/2017 18:03

My DD loves Beanie Boos and so do all friends around the same age. Also books - Holly Webb, Liz Pichon, David Walliams are faves. One of her best presents recently was a real fountain pen and writing paper. She would probably love make up stuff too but I wouldn't!

Not so much fashion orientated but anything cute (lots of hats and gloves that look like kittens etc in shops right now.)

Glumglowworm · 02/12/2017 18:05

Squishies whatever the hell they are especially scented ones

Unicorn or mermaid anything

My pillow pets

Those are things my Brownies seem into

I agree with books, there’s no such thing as too many books. You could get her your favourite book from when you were that age if you want to be extra thoughtful

Clothing can be hit and miss unless you know what sort of style she’s into.

And I would definitely say no to make up unless you know the parents are fine with it.

My niece loves mermaids. Have a look at mermaid blankets on Groupon:)

Sandyfeet101 · 02/12/2017 18:09

Nice stationary is a safe bet, gel pens, a nice notebook or diary.

Craft things.

Anything from Smiggle.

Spicspatspot · 02/12/2017 18:27

Lovely ideas, thank you all so much. I was completely second guessing myself and totally confused. I think I'll get some fancy stationery or lockable diary, books and maybe a nice hat or scarf

My daughter is 8. She loves arts and crafts stuff, (especially good colouring in pens); notepads and lockable diaries; hair accessories and Jo Jo bows; beanie boos and cute animal things. Cool t-shirts; holly webb books; slime; toy make up and nail polish. fingerlings. They seem to love anything out of Smiggle and Claire's. Things that worked at 7 which are a complete no-no now are: Disney (especially Frozen): Hello Kitty, most toys, sadly & dresses. Good luck OP! Ps. My DD doesn't have her ears pierced yet, but friends who do have appreciated gifts of cut stud earrings.

I have a 7 and 9 year old

They love things from Paperchase - they would be delighted with pretty much anything from there - notebooks, pens, writing sets, little erasers, pencil cases, random novelties etc etc

Monsoon/Accessorize is another favourite, they would love some sort of accessory from there - fluffy earmuffs/mittens/hats, bags, keyrings etc. They have a range for young girls, think it is called Angels or something.

ChinchillaFur · 02/12/2017 18:47

My dd is 8.6 and she is into all sorts. Her list inçluded:
Twister
My generation doll & clothes
Lego friends
Ripleys believe it or not book
Bad Dad book
Make up
Weaving loom
Bunchems
Sewing box
Go kart
Anything from Smiggle : )
Primark voucher

If she's anything my the 8 year olds I know, she'll love most things, or money.

SaucyJack · 02/12/2017 18:50

What about one of those cushions with the reversible sequins?

Popfan · 02/12/2017 18:56

Smiggle is a very safe bet!

Bonelessbanquet · 02/12/2017 18:57

steff13 · 02/12/2017 20:59

My daughter does love fancy pens and notebooks so do I.

I think markers/colored pencils and drawing pads are also a safe bet.

justgivemethepinot · 02/12/2017 21:08

Smiggle
The answer is smiggle.
Xmas Smile

Alpacaandgo · 02/12/2017 21:19

Mine absolutely loved Hama beads at this age. They spent hours designing things with them.

egginacup · 02/12/2017 21:23

My 9 year old’s Christmas list is basically slime and the entire contents of Smiggle!

Oh, and a pug Hmm

foxyloxy78 · 02/12/2017 21:23

Smiggle

Wifeofapostie · 02/12/2017 22:09

I've just got fabric pen set from Sniggle for an 8 year old. I'll get her a plain white tee shirt too. The set contains fabric stickers to colour then iron onto the tee shirt. I'm assured by her Mum she'll love it.

PoohBearsHole · 02/12/2017 22:12

Unicorns
🦄 and more 🦄

Unicorn lights (got a giant one from tkmax)

Smiggle

Jo jo bows 😩

Ellisandra · 02/12/2017 22:12

I'm laughing at how unoriginal my 8yo is, reading this Grin

OP, the suggestions are perfect!
