To ask for ideas for presents for 8/9 yr old girl?

I don't want to ask her parents, who are good friends, as they always get such thoughtful gifts for my kids. I don't see the girl very often so not sure what she is into. Fashion or toys? I would like to spend between 15-20 pounds. Any ideas what girls this age are generally into please?

Agree with pp, the answer is definitely Smiggle. Or Paperchase.
Luxury stationary/pens is the way forward.
Or maybe a 'secret diary' lockable book with a key.
Actual books are lovely but tricky as you can't know what she's read.

Pretty much all my 8 year olds favourite things have been mentioned already.

Anything from Smiggle
Jojo bows
Diary's, notebooks etc
Anything unicorn or mermaid themed
Primark voucher
Board games (cluedo, monopoly)
Anything with the reversible sequins

Djeco sets, stunning fun. Great quality. All kinds of art sets and lush stuff... Bubble bomb things

I had never heard of Smiggle, just ordered a pile of stuff online! Thanks everyone for your help.

Wicked uncle! Best kids' website ever - it categorises the toys by age so you can search easily
