To ask what song makes you cry

For no reason.

Mine is Wings by Little Mix and I don’t really know why. I’m not even a fan of them, although they’re very cute. I’ve just listened to to the song and the tears are flowing. My DP is Hmm.
The other is God Only Knows but I understand why that would make me cry.

Anyway. what songs are guaranteed to make you have good cry.

Oh that's just reminded me, that Tim Minchin 'White wine in the sun'... my DS is a TM fan and used to play that all the time. I'd be hiding behind furniture and snuffling madly and trying to get him to turn it off...

Also the song that starts 'You are the angel glow, that lights a star...' My mum used to sing that to the cat - we played it at her funeral and I can't even read the words without welling up.

theladylovescupcakes · 03/12/2017 18:22

American Tune by Paul Simon and Sunshine on Leith by the Proclaimers. I'm neither American nor from Edinburgh Grin

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 03/12/2017 18:23

Queen's 'you take my breath away'
jimi Hendrix's 'little wing'
Queen's "all dead" (Brian may wrote it about his cat who died)

Homtardy · 03/12/2017 18:28

Lovely thread OP. You'll be in my heart by Phil Collins, can't even hear the intro without sobbing, I've always been like that with that song but even worse since we played it at my sons funeral. And I hope you dance by Leanne Womack, it makes me remember to live each day to its fullest.

Elledouble · 03/12/2017 18:30

White Wine In The Sun made me cry so much when I was pregnant that I had to pull over in the car cos I couldn’t see the road. My partner may have been asked “why would you play that to a hormonal pregnant woman?!”

God Only Knows by the Beach Boys. I asked my Dad to dance with me to it at my wedding as a special thing but he was embarrassed and walked off half-way through saying “is that enough?”. Completely spoiled a beautiful song for me.

Everything I Own by Bread

elisa2502 · 03/12/2017 20:44

Dad by Simply Red, Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle, Dance With My Father Luther Vandross, the living years. My Dad suddenly passed away last year and I miss him so much. I danced at my Wedding with him to Butterfly Kisses, sadly I divorced shortly after but will ever forget that dance with my Dad.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas also makes my sob too. My Sister In Law announced she was pregnant on Christmas Day as this was playing. So cruel as she knew I was infertile and specifically waited until Xmas day to announce it.
Lets Just pretend it didn't happen by Mike and the Mechanics. Makes me sob. From failed marriage to someone who didn't respect me.

Topaz89 · 03/12/2017 21:09

Time of my Life- Dirty Dancing.
Hate it so much. It's just one of those songs that reminds you that you're not blissfully happy and that other people are.

PNGirl · 03/12/2017 21:21

Mazzy Star - Into Dust
Jimmy Eat World - 23 and Hear You Me
Coldplay - Everything's Not Lost
Massive Attack - Teardrop

Timeforachange68 · 03/12/2017 21:29

clueless my ddad chose Days by Kirsty McColl for my mum's funeral & I can't hear that now without crying, had to turn off Mo Farah's best bits because they used it as backing music

Today Lonely this Christmas set me off, 1st Christmas without my mum & I was in the process of decorating the tree, think I may have to be careful which Christmas songs I listen to this year

Mammylamb · 03/12/2017 21:39

scary: Flowers to you; that is heartbreaking xxx

butterfly56 · 03/12/2017 21:40

No Matter What by Boyzone
This single was given to me the day my exh walked out on me to be with someone else.

falange · 03/12/2017 21:42

Everything I own by Ken Boothe. It reminds me of my mum dying.

'And I would give anything I own
Give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give anything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to talk to you words again

MadMags · 03/12/2017 21:45

The Byrds Turn, Turn, Turn.

DevilsInTheDetail · 03/12/2017 21:48

My goodness, i think i could fill an entire thread with my weepy songs Grin

Kid- The Pretenders
As tears go by- The Rolling Stones
Scarlett Ribbons - Roy Orbison

Those 3 are certain to have me a blubbing
mess
There are a few more but i think my brain tries to block them out Blush

MissClareRemembers · 03/12/2017 21:56

Thought of some more...

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face sung by Roberta Flack
Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel. The verse where they sing together floors me

Sail on, silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh if you need a friend
I'm sailing right behind

TheEdgeOfGlory266 · 03/12/2017 22:08

Sarah McLachlan - In the arms of an angel and The Goo Goo Dolls - Iris. Both from the film City of Angels and both get me everytime. The former was played at my hand funeral 8 years ago.

The Story - Sara Ramirez version and Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars... anything from Greys Anatomy makes me cry tbh

Phil Collins - Groovy Kind of Love.

And Eric Clapton - Wonderful Tonight. This was mine and my husband's first dance.

TheEdgeOfGlory266 · 03/12/2017 22:09

My Nans funeral** Blush

Sweetpea55 · 03/12/2017 22:13

Not a song for me but a tune. ' The five variants if Dives and Lazarus'

JediJim · 03/12/2017 22:18

Not cry but two songs spring to mind that make me feel a bit somber and nostalgic but amazing lyrics;
Long hot summer by the Style Council
Also Hands to heaven by Breathe

sioba · 03/12/2017 23:00

Scorn not his simplicity by Luke Kelly. My youngest has special needs and it gets me every time.

Homtardy · 04/12/2017 03:14

Oh yes brothers in arms Missclare, I forgot about that song, haven't heard it in years - gives me goosebumps too

TheMathsTrainee · 04/12/2017 07:29
