I've aparantly had a package 'delivered to a 6ft middle aged fair haired man in my house...' funny that there is no one of that description in my house at all
and my house has 2 numbers, and they said... '2 houses put together' my house doesn't look like 2 houses put together....

fuckers

We had a yodel driver helpfully leave a package in our bin. If it had been our recycling bin it would have been perfect, however they left it in our black bin.. full of our twins' nappies Envy- not envy, boak

jennielou75 · 05/12/2017 06:38

We paid a chunk of money for a smart box on our front step. On the whole this does work. The only gripe I have is when the amazon driver can't get to me on time so records it as a failed delivery. I know that is their only option and they probably get trouble if they say they couldn't get there. Does annoy me tho when I have been watching the front door for hours!

AvoidingDM · 05/12/2017 06:56

DPD are normally very good. But I had a delivery split in to 2 boxes from John Lewis took them 3 days to figure out what had happened to it.

I refuse to use Next delivery. Had the experience a few years ago of them leaving something in "my porch" (what porch). I told them to pick it back up as we were away for a few days. The next day they messaged to say they couldn't find the porch (I wonder why) nor could they find the package!!!

It turned out they'd left the package hanging on the door handle and neighbours recognising security risk took the item in.

Bellybootcut · 05/12/2017 08:02

When it says porch, it can mean 'outside front door' the couriers have limited item options to select off the handset so have to choose nearest option.
I'd always suggest, if you don't have a safe place it can be left then go for a parcelshop option.
I'm not a courier but work with some and it's a really difficult job in some areas. They really don't have time to hang about.
Oh, and please don't lock your gate if you are expecting a delivery. Especially if it's breakable.

Ohbehave1 · 05/12/2017 09:22

Of course, we could all stop being bloody lazy and actually go to a shop to buy things we need.

Ollivander84 · 05/12/2017 14:00

Delivery today. Let's say I live at number 1 in a block of 4 flats
Would you
a) press the trade button
b) press number 1
c) press 2, 3 and 4 and then look confused when nobody answers?

Oh he had left it in a porch, just not our porch! A lovely lady brought it round to me as it had been left in her porch but obvious had my address on it.... the house was half a mile away

CuriousaboutSamphire · 05/12/2017 15:02

Ah! I used to love our local delivery guys and I probably still will, as I don't think this is their fault:

Ordered a replacement dehumidifier to arrive on Sunday - when I would be in all day - yay! It was despatched and on its way

Monday - erm, sorry, the message read "Possible delay in delivery due to arrival at incorrect carrier facility" Yes well, Camberley to Gloucester will take a while!

Tuesday... same message, all cheery, now expected to day with a more chilling "Please come back on tomorrow if you still don't have it and we'll help you out."

Well, I am self employed, DH is working away all week, I am, thankfully, doing lots of admin today... but I am fully booked at the end of the week. That's why I ordered i when I did!

Good job it isn't urgent - except I need the box it comes in, to return the faulty dehumidifier I ordered it to replace! Wonder if the return label will run out ? Smile

Ohbehave1 · 05/12/2017 19:12

I assume you mean me meow. I am not saying don't be mean ( your childish words ). I am saying unless you paid for a signed for service don't expect it.

Well I would be the first to complain if there was something that was not as per the type of shipping I had paid for.

But if I hadn't paid for a guaranteed signed for service I wouldn't as it would be my fault for not doing so.

And you gave a porch. Well what are you going to say if the driver leaves it in there and then someone else steals it. Either way he is screwed because it will be his fault.

VioletCharlotte · 05/12/2017 19:19

My lovely new coat arrived yesterday. I found the parcel dumped on my front door step - I'm lucky it was still there as we live in a busy street! Why couldn't they have left it round the back as requested in the delivery instructions? Why even ask about delivery instructions if you're going to ignore them?!

MrMeSeeks · 05/12/2017 19:23

*People need to think more about their deliveries.

You shouldn't order and then expect them to deliver when you are not there.

You shouldn't leaving them waiting before you answer the door. They don't have the time to wait 5 minutes at every delivery because you are doing something far more important.

You shouldn't expect free delivery to give you the same benefits as a paid for service.*

All my crap hermes deliveries i have paid for.
I have waited in for most of them for the guys to not even ring my bell and toss it over my fence, or not deliver it on the day i picked ( even though its cost me extra) or simply not deliever it at all and even the hermes compAny can't tell me where my parcels are!
It doesn't matter though where you pay or not this crap level of service should not be happening!
you only have to look at their fb, twitter and trustpilot to see how bad they are!

MrMeSeeks · 05/12/2017 19:27

I'm just suggesting that if unhappy, message the firm itself, shame on TrustPilot, Twitter etc, as it's the only way they'll go and procure the services of a courier that counts delivery as "placed in the hand of a customer"
Have you looked at their pages?
They don't care.
They don't give a toss if you complain to them, they don't take responsibility.

Of course, we could all stop being bloody lazy and actually go to a shop to buy things we need.
Oh yes, because people couldn't possibly have lives or you know, health problems...Hmm

EggysMom · 05/12/2017 19:56

Be in for your delivery.

How about: Drivers, when you have a delivery for our house, please either ring the doorbell or knock. Don't presume that nobody is in just because you cannot see a car in the drive or lights on in the house. Don't fake a delivery attempt just because you are running behind, that's not the customer's problem.

Check the tracking details and see where it is.

See above.

Pay for a service rather than expect the place selling at the cheapest price to deliver for free as well.

I do pay. If the company offers 'free' delivery, they have factored the cost into the price of the item. I don't select and pay for next-day delivery because I don't want next day, but I do want a reliable delivery service. If courier firms believe that they are not being paid a fare rate for their services, they need to re-negotiate that contract.

Expecting the driver to wait 5 minutes because whatever you are doing is far more important. In but not really.

Drivers: we may not expect you to wait, but we do expect you to pull up close to our house and make a delivery as instructed to our address, rather than to some random person two streets away.

The drivers have maybe 90 secs to 2 mins per drop in some cases. If you are not ready for them the won't hang about.

See above.

MrMeSeeks · 05/12/2017 20:45

Check the tracking details and see where it is
If the drivers don't update them?
Or you suddenly see that the driver has apparently attempted delivery even though you've been in all morning waiting?

Ohbehave1 · 05/12/2017 20:54

Oh dear. What did we do before internet shopping.

Whoever says you have already paid because the vendor has built it into the cost of the goods what utter bollocks.

They have costed it up using the lowest cost option. They haven't gone for the full signed for option if it is free.

It's highly amusing watching you all get your knickers in a twist. You really don't have a clue about what you should be paying for a good quality delivery service. But I guess you also complain when you pay for a 10 year old ford nd don't get given a Ferrari pmsl

MrMeSeeks · 05/12/2017 21:10

Work for a delivery company ohbehave?
What about all the people ( myself included) who've told you they paid for the delivery?
Before the internet a lot of disabled people didnt get out Hmm

CheshireChat · 05/12/2017 22:26

Normally DPD are pretty good, except for the last guy who was an arse and just couldn't be bothered.

We know he never attempted to deliver as we were watching the gate as it's unsafe otherwise. Also claimed there's no delivery instructions on the parcel- just on every fucking side isn't enough right? This is a delivery from abroad so definitely paid for btw.

Also, speaking of paying, if I pay extra for something to be signed for that means that even abroad the person needs to bloody sign for it, both RM and the equivalent in my mum's country are guilty of this. This wasn't even followed when I had something that could (in theory) be only hand delivered to myself, I had to sign and ID myself, it was put through my letter box....

CheshireChat · 05/12/2017 22:27

The unlocked, partially unopened gate sorry.

Mooey89 · 05/12/2017 22:30

Hermes like to leave mine in the recycling bin and mark it as ‘left in secure porch’
Today I had ‘left with neighbour Simon’. My Neighbour is a woman called Alex. I text her asking about her new gender identity and she said he didn’t even ask her name!

PurplePillowCase · 05/12/2017 22:30

we live in house no 40
we had a parcel helpfully delivered to our 'neighbours' at 41. which is a mile up the road.

Ohbehave1 · 05/12/2017 22:41

No mrmeseeks. I don't. I work in logistics and know how it works. I spend about £2-3million a
Year on shipping and have been doing it for years. I am a customer of these firms just like you. And it's my job to get the best out of them.

You may have paid for your delivery, but if it is just a few £ for a next day service don't expect the service level to be any good. And if you are not going to be in choose a delivery address where it can be delivered (doesn't have to be yourself). You will either complain if it is left somewhere or complain if the driver can't deliver.

Of course there are the odd one or 2 drivers that are bad. Just like in any business. But in my experience it is very frequently the consigned who is a fault and they will do all they can to blame the courier. It's quite easy really.

But people expect that they are the most important customer to the courier company. And in many ways they are. But when you start to delay the driver you disrupt all of the other deliveries that the driver has to make you quickly go to the bottom of the pile.

Halebeke425 · 05/12/2017 22:42

A delivery driver opened my front door and put the parcel in the hallway today!! I was upstairs about to jump in the shower, heard them knock, was about to grab a dressing gown and run down when I heard the door open and shut. Went down to find the box just sat in the hallway.... Like wtf?! Didn't even wait after knocking just opened the door.

micropig · 06/12/2017 08:33

Just to counterbalance the Hermes stories, yesterday the local Hermes delivery driver popped in just to check that I got my package the other day that he'd left with my neighbour. So sweet!

I believe they are paid per successful delivery which is a really unfair on the drivers. I did notice locally there has been a high staff turnover with them, whereas we have had the same DPD guy for almost a year and the DHL man has been the same as long as I can remember and is a lovely man.

micropig · 06/12/2017 08:38

Oh and a different company delivered a huge box of raw dog meat to me yesterday despite the last being home and a delivery note saying which neighbour of hers to bring it to if she wasn't in. It said it needed to be kept cool but was quite wet already. Thankfully her phone number was on the box so she could come get it. She said she always orders with that company so it will be delivered to her door as it's too heavy for her to carry.
