Cup of tea for 12yo

loveinanelevator · 30/11/2017 15:32

As the title suggests is this U?

My 12yo ds is on his way home from school and it's freezing, has snowed all day. He doesn't like hot chocolate. Want to make him a nice warm drink for when he gets in.

Apologies for the most mundane question ever.

OP posts:
RhiannonOHara · 30/11/2017 16:56

Pleasure, OP. Heck, I'D quite like a warm spiced mug of milk myself now. Made myself a Darjeeling before I sat down to read this though.

Aeroflotgirl · 30/11/2017 17:02

Blimey, I used to give my kids tea when they were 4! If he wants tea, give him tea, it's not poison!

Reallycantbebothered · 30/11/2017 17:03

I've just discovered chai latte....( although been drinking tea since age of about 2) ....why have I only just discovered this lovely spicy warm drink?...perfect at this time of year too!

Dahlietta · 30/11/2017 17:06

YABU for giving him tea with two sugars in it - bleurgh! Wink

user1465893880 · 30/11/2017 17:08

My kids are all under 7 and they drink very milky tea all the time

KurriKurri · 30/11/2017 17:09

I've been drinking tea since I was very young and I'm brilliant in every way.
Anyone who thinks tea is bad for 12 yr olds is wrong.

whosahappyharry · 30/11/2017 17:43

He really likes ....hot water. (He's going to be a very cheap date when he's older.)

Grin bless him.

kinkajoukid · 30/11/2017 17:43

Tea is great. Hot milk? My friend used to have hot blackcurrant juice.

Also herbal or green teas? These would be decaf so he wont be bouncing around in the evening, and generally decaf tea is not great.

RhiannonOHara · 30/11/2017 18:05

Green tea isn't decaf, although it has less caffeine than black teas.

PumpkinSquash · 30/11/2017 18:13

I am [shocked] that someone could have got to the age of 12 without having drunk tea

You'd be [shocked[ at ds1 here then. 15 next birthday and never had tea, coffee, fizzy drinks. Just not interested. Only water, milk and a certain flavour of squash!

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/11/2017 18:14

Surely nobody has said YABU!?!

Mine have always had a cup of tea in the morning from being about 9 years old!

DarlesChickens61 · 30/11/2017 18:17

You are right OP. This is the most mundane thread ever!

I'm in shock that you are asking if your 12 year old can have a cup of tea!!?? Its tea... not crack cocaine! Your ds is 12!

Middleoftheroad · 30/11/2017 18:20

mine have just started having odd cup of tea aged 11.

Comeonmommy · 30/11/2017 18:21

My daughter has had tea since about 2!

CrochetBelle · 30/11/2017 18:22

It's the breakfast of choice for my 12 year old

everythingtwinklesatxmas · 30/11/2017 18:25

I think the general feeling is NU to give him the cup of tea but I was U to dare to ask the question. Bit of a shame really considering my question was genuine and I wanted an opinion or 2.

PumpkinSquash · 30/11/2017 18:41

Lol at people saying "most mundane question everrrr" - it's MN, that's what it's FOR, posting questions!
Nothing wrong at all with asking for a concensus on whether to give a 12 year old tea. Why shouldn't you ask?
If people can post about clothes on the washing line being left out getting "darked on", or what everyone's having for tea, there's nothing wrong with asking who gives their 12 year old tea!
Grin

Having read through this I would say some reactions are a bit dramatic, i realise you were genuinely wondering OP! But this thread has given me a little giggle. I too didn't realise what the question was. He will be fine! Get him to make it for you next time though..

tinysparklyshoes · 30/11/2017 18:42

Dramatic? There could not be less drama on a thread!

PumpkinSquash · 30/11/2017 18:42

everyone's having for tea read as the dinner type, not the cup of tea. I realise both types in there makes my post a tad confusing reading it back! Whoops.

tinysparklyshoes · 30/11/2017 18:47

Not this mundane! It's not for posting "should I have an apple or an orange?" "where did I leave my handbag?" and so on.

Loubymoo27 · 30/11/2017 18:58

My dd is nearly 5 has been drinking milky tea for about 2 years! At 12 I was making my own cups of tea!!!

EmilyChambers79 · 30/11/2017 19:35

My 10 year old only drinks water, orange juice topped up with water, apple juice topped up with water, the orange juice and Apple Juice topped up with water and warmed up, milk or warm milk.

Doesn't like fizzy, not a fan of squash, doesn't like hot chocolate and won't try tea or coffee.

Although he made his first cup of tea at 8 for his cubs badge.

PumpkinSquash · 30/11/2017 19:43

Not this mundane! It's not for posting "should I have an apple or an orange?" "where did I leave my handbag?" and so on.

Says who?! Confused The Thread Police?! Grin
I bet with a search there will be a "where did I leave my handbag?" thread somewhere or some such equivalent like car keys! Grin
Nothing wrong with gauging opinions from other parents whether their 12 year old drinks tea, I find it a quite interesting insight having a 10 and a 14 year old who have both never drunk tea/coffee or shown any interest in it.

shhhfastasleep · 30/11/2017 19:48

We all drink decaf Yorkshire Tea in our house. Including 10 yr old. For a while I was the only one who had sugar in it but I gave that up.
Decaf Yorkshire Tea tastes like real tea.
