Cup of tea for 12yo

loveinanelevator · 30/11/2017 15:32

As the title suggests is this U?

My 12yo ds is on his way home from school and it's freezing, has snowed all day. He doesn't like hot chocolate. Want to make him a nice warm drink for when he gets in.

Apologies for the most mundane question ever.

Of course with a couple of biscuits. It's been horrible where I am today so he's got clothes warming up on the radiator in his bedroom so he can get changed right away.

LaContessaDiPlump · 30/11/2017 15:50

My 5yo would officially die without his tea!!

LemonysSnicket · 30/11/2017 15:50

Ive made my own tea from around 7yo (no sugar)

ScaryMonstersAndSuperCreeps · 30/11/2017 15:51

Wilf was drinking tea in his trainer cup at 18 months old. He used to walk into his Nan and Grandads bungalow and swing his cup round so the tea ran down the walls. Nanna used to call him the old tea belly! Fifteen years ago this week since she died. Miss her and wish she could see how well Wilf has done.

tinysparklyshoes · 30/11/2017 15:51

Why would you not give a 12 year old tea?

granny24 · 30/11/2017 15:51

Tea is fine, but DH suggested Bovril or Oxo.

LakieLady · 30/11/2017 15:53

We were brought up on tea. My brother was drinking it from a baby bottle before he was big enough for a sippy cup.

WombOfOnesOwn · 30/11/2017 15:53

My DS has been drinking sips of tea since 9 months, and will have a diluted cup of it since about 15 months. He is growing like a weed and very healthy!

custarddinosaur · 30/11/2017 15:54

Why do you even need to ask? Confused

clarabellski · 30/11/2017 15:56

I made my own tea from age 8 (in retrospect probably wasn't reasonable of my mum to let me use the kettle aged 8)

MiaowMix · 30/11/2017 15:57

How can this even be a question? What could possibly be unreasonable?

everythingtwinklesatxmas · 30/11/2017 15:57

I really don't understand some of the comments asking why I've asked. Is it to make me feel stupid for having a genuine question?

maddiemookins16mum · 30/11/2017 15:57

DD (13) has a massive mug of tea (no sugar, her choice) as soon as she gets home (should be within the next 15 minutes).
She's got fruit malt loaf (buttered of course) to go with it.
She loves tea.

Sprogletsmuvva · 30/11/2017 15:57

I am [shocked] that someone could have got to the age of 12 without having drunk tea 👵

Hillarious · 30/11/2017 15:57

My 16 year old is partial to a cup of Lapsang Souchong.

MiaowMix · 30/11/2017 15:58

Everythingtwinkles not at all, I genuinely don't get why you wouldn't just do this without the need to ask if it's ok?

What could be unreasonable about you making him a cup of tea?

GinAndSonic · 30/11/2017 15:59

My 6 and 8yo love a cuppa. I try to stick to decaf but they drink normal tea at my mum's. If I put any sugar in its only a half a spoon.

Lovemusic33 · 30/11/2017 16:00

Not sure why people get so hit up about kids drinking tea. I used to love having tea and biscuits at my nans house from the age of about 5. I’m still alive. My brother used to have tea in his bottle when he was a baby.

Xtrabroken · 30/11/2017 16:00

Girls brigade at out local church gave them toast and tea and a biscuit at age five every week!

tinysparklyshoes · 30/11/2017 16:00

I really don't understand some of the comments asking why I've asked. Is it to make me feel stupid for having a genuine question?

No, they are asking why you've asked because they don't understand why you would ask. It's like coming on aibu to ask "can I give my 3 year old a banana?"
What possible answer can there be but "if you want"? Confused

coddiwomple · 30/11/2017 16:00

Just ask him if he like it?
Pretty much all the cafeine is extracted immediately, so a "weak" tea has as much cafeine (well, theine) as a "strong" tea.

Most 12 years will have tried coca cola by now, I am sure it's fine once in a while.

everythingtwinklesatxmas · 30/11/2017 16:00

Looking for opinions as was on the fence. I don't think that's unreasonable.
As I mentioned I would always make him a hot chocolate if he wanted a warm drink.

Ski4130 · 30/11/2017 16:01

My three love tea (7, 10 and 12) so I just always gave them decaf when they were younger, and let them share my M & S Ceylon or Pukka peppermint tea now.

ProperLavs · 30/11/2017 16:02

my kids have had tea since they were tiny.

heateallthebuns · 30/11/2017 16:02

I used to have tea in a sippy cup, it was gorgeous.
