Cup of tea for 12yo

As the title suggests is this U?

My 12yo ds is on his way home from school and it's freezing, has snowed all day. He doesn't like hot chocolate. Want to make him a nice warm drink for when he gets in.

Apologies for the most mundane question ever.

I am [shocked] that someone could have got to the age of 12 without having drunk tea

Not so sure what's so shocking about that either. Most 12 years old I know don't drink tea or coffee. They could technically, but there's just no need.

FlowerPot1234 · 30/11/2017 16:03
Confused

Is there something dodgy/U about tea that has never, ever come within a million miles of the Flowerpot radar?

notangelinajolie · 30/11/2017 16:03

Tea is hardly a rum and coke. Have I missed something? Is this another thing to add to the bad list?

reallybadidea · 30/11/2017 16:04

Hot chocolate has loads of sugar in it; tea is probably better for him.

pallisers · 30/11/2017 16:04

How about a hot port?

Sprinklestar · 30/11/2017 16:05

Strangest question ever, assuming you're British. I thought we were all weaned on tea!

grannytomine · 30/11/2017 16:05

One of my children was always throwing up, I would feel her and then at least half of it would come back up. Eventually my health visitor said give her a cup of weak milky tea and it did the trick. She was about 12 months old at the time. She never drinks tea now she is grown up, prefers coffee.

MiaowMix · 30/11/2017 16:06

why would it be unreasonable though? Maybe i'm being thick but I don't see what could be so contentious about a cup of tea for a 12 year old.

Does he like tea? If not then I guess you could be being unreasonable?

everythingtwinklesatxmas · 30/11/2017 16:07

@Sprinklestar I am British but didn't start drinking tea until I was an older teen

MeadowHay · 30/11/2017 16:09

I used to have a cup of tea a day from about the age of 9 or 10, so I think that is fine.

Fresta · 30/11/2017 16:10

Some kids lead such bloody sheltered lives. I feel sorry for them.

I would prefer a child to drink tea to hot chocolate any day of the week!

Unfinishedkitchen · 30/11/2017 16:10

Someone mentioned hot Ribena! forgot how much I love it! Runs to shops.

AdaColeman · 30/11/2017 16:10

He needs hot Bovril Brew Brew Brew

paap1975 · 30/11/2017 16:11

Hot squash will rot his teeth

Sprinklestar · 30/11/2017 16:11

@everything - you missed out! I should probably have added 'lighthearted' at the end of my post...

Glumglowworm · 30/11/2017 16:11

I hate tea but it wouldn’t even occur to me that a 12 year old possibly shouldn’t have tea if they want it! We let Brownies (age 7-10) have it at pack holiday if they want it!

DontMakeMeShushYou · 30/11/2017 16:11

I would say it's fine. My 13 and 11 year olds love a nice hot cup of tea and drink it fairly regularly.

For those wondering, it is the caffeine content of tea that some people suggest is not good for children, although it has much less than coffee. Green tea has less caffeine than black tea.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 30/11/2017 16:12

It's tea, not crack.

Ha ha Grin

everythingtwinklesatxmas · 30/11/2017 16:12

@Sprinklestar no I took it as lighthearted don't worry

It's certainly been interesting to read the differing opinions, I didn't realise it would be quite so controversial

VioletCharlotte · 30/11/2017 16:14

Why would this not be ok? Am I missing something....?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 30/11/2017 16:14

How about a hot port?

DontMakeMeShushYou · 30/11/2017 16:14

Hillarious

Lapsang Souchong is my DS's favourite too. I think it reminds him of being round a campfire!

user1494409994 · 30/11/2017 16:15

Mine are 4 and 8 and have been drinking tea since they were 2. They love it.

PuppyMonkey · 30/11/2017 16:15

"There's just no need?" Shock

No need?

No need?

NO NEED?
