BishBoshBashBop · 28/11/2017 10:30

The joy I am getting out of the whole shindig however is that some of the most feverent royalists in England ( sic) are some of the biggest racists

Any actual proof of that statement?

Battleax · 28/11/2017 10:31

with Will and Kate I just thought good for them and ignored the coverage after that. They didn’t feel so self indulgent.

At least there was the excuse that they were a future King and Queen (assuming the monarchy lasts).

southeastdweller · 28/11/2017 10:34

What I’m a bit Confused about is how many people here seem to to be surprised about the media saturation when it’s always been the same whenever a major Royal got engaged, which is why the Brexit conspiracy distraction theory is so laughable. Personally I don’t mind seeing so much about the happy couple, it sure makes a change seeing so many headlines about food banks, paedophiles, rapists and other very depressing news.

Battleax · 28/11/2017 10:37

It's a bit like D&V isn't it? You remember last time, you know it's not nice, but when it hits again, you can't believe how bad it is.

RoseWhiteTips · 28/11/2017 10:38

Well that didn’t take long. Lol

Battleax · 28/11/2017 10:40

You don't need to be a conspiracy theorist to observe that the hoopla and merriment might suit some politicians.

Don't you remember Jo "A good day to bury bad news" Moore and her departmental antics on 9/11?

MiraiDevant · 28/11/2017 10:42

Agree OP. Sick of it. Had to turn the radio off this morning. And I am a fan of the Royals generally and quite like Harry. I just want to say - "get back in your box" Grin

Bourdic · 28/11/2017 10:44

Britain First for starters

Bourdic · 28/11/2017 10:46

The Guardian had a photo and article on front page and two page spread inside plus editorial - were you reading yesterdsy’s Guardian Trail? 😄

LoverOfCake · 28/11/2017 10:50

I've managed to avoid it and I'm a news junky. However, I suspect that one of the reasons why it's all over the place right now is because as a rule Harry doesn't let the press in and so they're making the most of this opportunity.

Unlike Kate etc MM is more press savvy due to her career and Harry isn't going to stand for the kind of press intrusion that W and K can't avoid etc etc. So when the press do get the opportunity to e.g. Photograph/interview them together they will milk it for all it's worth.

TheVanguardSix · 28/11/2017 10:54

Totally!
I'm sorry did I just hear Meg's skull crack as she hit the firmly intact glass ceiling?

It'll all end in tears. You all know this, right?

somanyusernames · 28/11/2017 10:56

the only place i heard the news was mumsnet! I'm looking forward to some low work days! Good luck to them.

I am no royal fan but the alternative would be worse - Tony Blair for President? And likely more expensive unless we're appropriating assets of a private family.

Blahblahblahzeeblah · 28/11/2017 10:58

Might i advise you dont create ANOTHER post about it to add to the (probabe) hundrerds already on here?

Battleax · 28/11/2017 10:58

Vanguard you'd think it would be perfectly obvious that true feminists don't marry princes and if they do it's a disaster, wouldn't you?

EvilDoctorBallerinaRoastDuck · 28/11/2017 10:58

YANBU.

lionguard · 28/11/2017 10:59

I love Janet Street Porter.

I think she's right - "we" Brits like our princesses to keep it zipped. Look at Kate, she never says a word.

"Look good and shut up" is essentially the job requirement. I think people forget that after Diana stopped "keeping it zipped" she was eviscerated by the press in many instances.

FlowerPot1234 · 28/11/2017 11:00

Harry isn't going to stand for the kind of press intrusion that W and K can't avoid

Then just announce it in the Telegraph.
Don't do a trashy announcement with her pouting and arching her back and posing.
Don't sit on the sofa and do an excruciatingly painful and awkward interview.
Don't then release photos of you to the press of you after the "official" cameras were rolling of "unofficial-but-equally-as-official" staged-larking-about photos.

He's part of the family who have state responsibilities, a family who receive funding from you and I. Our press has the right to report on their activities.
Don't court and invite the press on the one hand and whinge on the other.

Eltonjohnssyrup · 28/11/2017 11:06

They remind me of Andrew and Fergie, all the being silly and stuff. That doesn't bode well.

I hope it works out for them, but I have reservations. If one of my kids got married after a year in a long distance relationship where they'd only seen each other once a fortnight I'd be worried too. And to an actress, not because of snobbery, but because people who can act, it's sometimes hard to tell if they're sincere or acting a role.

They both seem nice as individuals, but I'm not sure about them as a couple. Still, I wish them well.

liz70 · 28/11/2017 11:07

"Not sure that something qualifies as ‘easy to avoid’ if it requires avoiding the entire internet. "

You say that as if "avoiding the entire internet" is somewhat difficult. It reeeaally isn't. Heck, generations of us survived many years without it, quite happily. Just switch your bleeding device off, or alternatively, visit one of the other 65 squillion web pages that don't mention H and M. Easy peasy.

southeastdweller · 28/11/2017 11:07

You don't need to be a conspiracy theorist to observe that the hoopla and merriment might suit some politicians.

Yes, but to suggest that the saturation has been deliberately done as as a distraction when this level of coverage isn’t new is ridiculous.

WitchesHatRim · 28/11/2017 11:09

Harry isn't going to stand for the kind of press intrusion that W and K can't avoid

Completely disagree. It way be more of a mutual thing but he needs the press for his causes.

Whizbang · 28/11/2017 11:10

Hooray, I have found my people! I thought it was just me. YANBU OP!

PumpkinSquash · 28/11/2017 11:12

Just switch your bleeding device off

Grin Honestly, it's a wonder how anyone coped pre internet, isn't it? Can you imagine now if the internet suddenly decided to pack up and disappear? I'm imagining people wandering out of their houses, zombie like, blinking at the sky dazed and confused, and automatically going to tweet "what's happened to the internet, why are we down?" "OMG, I can't, what do I dooooooo, panic lol
notangelinajolie · 28/11/2017 11:13

I liked her yesterday afternoon but there is only so many times you can watch that interview. She's starting to annoy me already.

Battleax · 28/11/2017 11:14
