I've not really heard or seen anything on it since the engagement announcement to be fair, I think people are over it now until the countdown to be actual wedding begins! I like them as a couple and wish them well but I definitely agree with other posters that they are moving too quickly of course they're happy together because their still in the honeymoon period 18 months isn't that long in terms of getting to know someone but they are in their mid-thirties now and probably want to start a family as soon as possible hence the rush.

I think she's a bit too flash for the royal family; I can't see her being low key on engagements and that'll she'll want an 'international' voice for her causes. I think between the two of them they've a vision of being this humanitarian power couple doing good works in Africa, the odd thing in the UK (I don't think the UK is a focus for them), sweeping across the US meeting and doing charity-type things with important people. Friends will be other power type couples - Amal & George, Barack & Michelle, Angelina & [was Brad but whoever else next], Bill & Melinda. Maybe the Beckhams if they want them to support a charity although I feel the Beckhams are out of favour with the public more and more and the royal family will realise that too.

I think there's some conniving in all of this - on both sides. The royal family must know what some of the negative opinions of them are. He must know the criticism Will and Kate get. I think he also knows he's on a bit more of a positive roll with the UK public, being likened to his mother. So he will want to carry that on - by being seen as charitable and caring. And I think the other members of the royal family will want that popularity too, as if they go out of favour they're on increasingly thin ice. They're a business. Meghan also gets a deal out of this too - the chance to be seen as a wonderful person with all her work with poor, needy people, especially in Africa.

Of course, they won't be giving up the high life and the good things either - clothes, holidays, luxury homes, first class travel etc. Being a humanitarian and activist is such a 'thing' now. There are so many people that label themselves as such on Twitter or Instagram, followed by #opinionsmyown. I just can't believe it is genuine. There are people out there that are the real deal and they don't court the publicity for it.

She's very slick. I saw her Instagram before it was taken down. The usual pictures of a perfect life, artful poses to look sexy or innocent and in touch with unfortunate poor people (but look how I bring a smile to their faces), clothes, interior decor, travel, casual brunches with friends - all very cool and sophisticated looking, but clearly posed and staged.

Anyway, I predict they'll adopt an orphan from somewhere in Africa and have IVF for a boy and a girl. No surrogate though. All on-trend stuff. Loads of people have said it but I don't think it'll go the distance. It'll last for the next 5-10 years, they'll have some kids. I think she'll be another nail in the coffin for the royal family ultimately. #justmyopinions

I only have two interests in this (as has been posted up thread)

  1. will there be a bank holiday
and
  1. What will be the date.

the rest is just netflix and chill.

Oblomov17 · 30/11/2017 18:50

Agreed OP.

expatinscotland · 30/11/2017 19:06

Spot on, annie. Yep, the designer, made-to-order boy/girl twins are de rigeur for such couples these days, with genetic screening of the embryos, wouldn't want any of those nasty disabilities. You'd think there was a script out there they all follow.

EthelOnTheTown · 30/11/2017 19:18

Totally agree Annie.

It like the old Paul Daniel's joke, 'so gorgeous cool Meghan, what first attracted you to skinny pasty ginger multimillionaire Prince Harry?' Grin

Breeze241 · 30/11/2017 19:39

When I heard the news I thought I hope there is bank holiday but no PM Theresa May doesn't fancy a day off or the Queen whoever authorised it. Take a day off and have some Pimms and let the rest of us get smashed because this country is depressing but if we had an extra day off is a glimmer of hope, something to look forward to before the shit hits the fan and everything including alcohol costs a bomb!

lionguard · 30/11/2017 19:52

Hang on a minute is there definitely not going to be a bank holiday?!

expatinscotland · 30/11/2017 19:59

No, no bank holiday as he's considered a minor royal, especially now that all Wills' sprogs are in front of him in line.

fortunacookie · 30/11/2017 20:28

I think it's lovely news for a change.

Beats huffy puffy Donald trump n his pals almost causing World War III

WitchesHatRim · 30/11/2017 20:34

No, no bank holiday as he's considered a minor royal, especially now that all Wills' sprogs are in front of him in line.

Plus with it being at Windsor it is deemed to be a smaller affair, in royal wedding terms.
