to not understand the Pandora obsession?

Just that really!

A neighbour of ours is obsessed with it, every Christmas/birthday/mother's day she is constantly tagging her husband on fb with endless Pandora ads saying 'hint hint hubby!'. She has loads of it. And so does one of my DSD's.

Why spend so much money on stuff that so many other people are also wearing?

Each to their own but I don't get it. And surely it will be worth nothing in a few years time?

I'm not overly bothered about jewellery, I wear my engagement ring (which was made specifically for me) and a pair of pretty plain white gold earrings every day .

Would just love to know why Pandora is so popular? And why some people want the entire collection?

I don’t understand it either. I’m not a big jewellery fan but I really like traditional charm bracelets. I was in the Pandora shop the other day looking for something for a friend and it was packed, though. People do love it.

Dozyoldtwonk · 27/11/2017 20:35

Different people like different things I guess. But I agree, OP. It’s very expensive for what it is DM asks for a ‘charm’ every Christmas and birthday Hmm

AlonsosLeftPinky · 27/11/2017 20:37

I don't either.

It's shit quality jewellery which every other woman has a carbon copy of. And it's a gift for people to buy when they can't be arsed making an effort.

BroomHandledMouser · 27/11/2017 20:37

I have to admit I'm not a fan of the charm bracelets but I adore the rings.

I had my first Pandora ring for my birthday this year and I love it. It's a very simple piece and looks lovely Smile

letsdolunch321 · 27/11/2017 20:37

I don’t see the attention either. At the weekend The Pandora shop in town was full with people obviously looking for Christmas presents

Hoppinggreen · 27/11/2017 20:38

I’m not keen but tween dd and all her mates are obsessed with it

Bambamber · 27/11/2017 20:38

I think a lot of their stuff is very pretty. I don't think about how much it will be worth in a few years, if I see something I would like to wear, I buy it.

It's all just a matter of taste. It would be a very dull place if we all liked the same things

Lethaldrizzle · 27/11/2017 20:38

I'm sure you have tastes that other people don't get, be they tv shows, food, shoes, handbags etc. Just let people be. You sound a bit judgemental. And no I don't have a Pandora, but who cares? It's just a bracelet!

HolyShet · 27/11/2017 20:38

I suppose it's like Match Attax for middle-aged women and the plain bracelet doesn't make too much sense on its own.

I think its kind of ugly but then I don't really do jewellery

rainbowunicorn · 27/11/2017 20:39

Why do you need to get it or understand why others like it? We all like different things. You don't do jewellery, other people do. Why is it even something that bothers you enough to ask about?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 27/11/2017 20:39

Pandora isn't for me, too jingly jangly. I like plainer things really.

The other thing I don't get that's dead popular though is Yankee Candles? The name, the big ugly jars, the synthetic smell...how are they so popular? You can buy a nice candle for that price!

TinselTwins · 27/11/2017 20:39

Part of the point of accumulating jewellery for birthdays and anniversaries was that it built up a sort of savings account for women

Pandora stuff though expensive to buy new, is almost worthless second hand!

IvorHughJarrs · 27/11/2017 20:39

I don't understand either. My cousin is obsessed, has loads and wants more, I cannot fathom why

MycatsaPirate · 27/11/2017 20:42

Oh I know, each to their own! I never have been one to follow a trend for something though. I just wonder how long this will last and whether Pandora will still be a 'thing' in 10 years time.

I think jewellery is a very personal thing, a personal choice. My earrings were bought by dp last Christmas as a present but I chose them.

Match Attax for middle aged women! Brilliant 😂

ChequeredPasta · 27/11/2017 20:43

I feel this way about Radley Handbags.
Just...why???

SylviaTietjens · 27/11/2017 20:43

They’re fantastic for me. My mil is absolutely impossible to buy for. A few years ago I got her a Pandora bracelet with a charm dc had chosen. He now gets to choose a charm every xmas and give it to mil. I don’t think she likes it really it at least it appears thoughtful.

She, on the other hand gave me one Willow Tree figure a decade ago. She now gives me one every year, because I love them so much, and I have a whole Terracotta Army of the bastards. It’s an unspoken arrangement of passive aggressive gift giving.

BuzzKillington · 27/11/2017 20:44

I think 10 years ago the charm bracelets were a big thing - not now though. They're quite naff imo and I say that as someone that has 2 of them - never worn anymore.

Their other stuff is nice. I have just bought 2 friends the birthstone stud earrings for Christmas - they are lovely.

BrioAmio · 27/11/2017 20:45

Isn’t it aimed at teenagers? Like the next step after Claire’s Accessories? I dont think it’s aimed at grown ups is it?

PinkyBlunder · 27/11/2017 20:46

YANBU

I prefer Trollbeads.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 27/11/2017 20:46

Oh yes, Radley! I don't get that either! Grin. Don't want a dog on my bag and the colours and styles are never quite desirable enough to me.

AlonsosLeftPinky · 27/11/2017 20:47

I love jewellery and have plenty of it.

I don't love carbon copies of anything. Pandora is tat. Same goes for yankee candles, which smell horrid, Radley bags and anything else adorned by the masses.

wasMissD · 27/11/2017 20:47

I'm not a fan either. They're everywhere and that's enough to put me off. It costs like £600 to fill one as well!

BuzzKillington · 27/11/2017 20:47

I think they were aimed at grown ups, but at the same time can see they are very unsophisticated.

MycatsaPirate · 27/11/2017 20:47

match attax for middle aged women made me proper LOL!

And no I'm not being judgy lethaldrizzle. I'm just asking a question! If you don't like it, feel free to find my other thread about microwave recommendations and answer that one (I think that's fallen into the arse end of nowhere with no replies)

My teen has a couple of Pandora things, a ring and a bracelet. My DSD has one of the charm bracelets and some other bits but she put up a photo on fb recently showing about 9 Pandora bags saying she'd finished her Christmas shopping. Thankfully nothing for me and my DD2 is apparently too young at 12!

I just wonder why some people want ALL of it. My DD's ring is very pretty and I like my DSD's necklace but I am not overly keen on the charm bracelets.
