to not understand the Pandora obsession?

MycatsaPirate · 27/11/2017 20:23

Just that really!

A neighbour of ours is obsessed with it, every Christmas/birthday/mother's day she is constantly tagging her husband on fb with endless Pandora ads saying 'hint hint hubby!'. She has loads of it. And so does one of my DSD's.

Why spend so much money on stuff that so many other people are also wearing?

Each to their own but I don't get it. And surely it will be worth nothing in a few years time?

I'm not overly bothered about jewellery, I wear my engagement ring (which was made specifically for me) and a pair of pretty plain white gold earrings every day .

Would just love to know why Pandora is so popular? And why some people want the entire collection?

yolowaggins i see your point but not always, AIBU can spark great, funny, informative discussion.
What's a bit shit about this are all the snobs calling it tacky. I have all sorts of jewellery- some v expensive, some v cheap - and that's my decision to wear it and not feel I'll be judged or called tacky. I hate snobs.

It reminds me my family love me. I don't care if other people don't like it. It's for me, not them.

LegallyBrunet · 27/11/2017 21:17

I love my Pandora bracelet. I'm not a huge jewellery person but my OH bought the Mickey Mouse bracelet and Belle dress charm for me for my birthday as he knows I am massive Disney fan

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/11/2017 21:24

Reminds me of the old fashion for gold/ silver charm bracelets. A gold one laden with charms would be worth quite a bit. You never see them any more - I wonder whether they've all been cashed in for the gold value?

mumofthemonsters808 · 27/11/2017 21:25

It's not my cup of tea, I think it's ok for teens, but not grown women, but each to their own.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/11/2017 21:25

Eh?

Unless in the last ten years they've massively gone up in price and the quality has declined Confused

The bracelet I filled 12 ish years ago has nicely detailed charms on it and they were pretty solid lumps of silver for £20

YourHandInMyHand · 27/11/2017 21:26

I don't get it either. For me it's in the "sheeple" shopping category along with Michael Kors, Uggs, Superdry, etc.

I've no hugely negative feelings, just not my cup of tea.

BarbaraOcumbungles · 27/11/2017 21:27

I don't get it either, It's cheap and nasty jewellery.

HidingBehindTheWallpaper · 27/11/2017 21:27

I have no opinion on the style, quality or value of it. But I have to say that it seems like a very successful marketing campaign.

BakedBeans47 · 27/11/2017 21:32

Oh well I like Pandora, I have a bracelet, some earrings and a locket and I like them. I like Radley handbags too.

Barbaro · 27/11/2017 21:32

I think they look nice, and you're not likely to have one the same as anyone else as you choose different charms to other people, if you choose ones that mean something to you, not because someone else has it.

But I think they are over priced for what they are. You can get different bracelets with charms that you like and suit you for cheaper than Pandora ones.

IAmNotTheIronMan · 27/11/2017 21:32

I hate Pandora - despite having the bracelet, charms and rings etc, it’s shit quality, the rings tarnished straight away (within a day of purchase) and the shop attempted to claim that was my fault, even they couldn’t get it clean - it’s not ‘proper’ gold or silver, it’s just dipped in the colour. I loved Pandora previous to this but the quality is through the floor which puts me off

Bonelessbanquet · 27/11/2017 21:35

I’m not a jewellery fan at all, don’t even wear my engagement ring.

However, I like the fact that teens/young adults have something collectible/sentimental that isn’t easily replaceable. Especially if they’ve been collecting it for years.

Makes more sense than a MK watch type fad in my mind.

Rach5l · 27/11/2017 21:36

This has been done to death on Mumsnet

Gazelda · 27/11/2017 21:48

My DH and DD bought me a bracelet. They buy me charms, all with a special meaning.

The thing drives me mad! It rattles when I’m typing (which is most of my working day) and I don’t like the style of the charms.

But they love it when i wear it, and comment when I don’t.

It’s sad to read the scorn on this thread for the jewellery other people choose to wear.

Crunchymum · 27/11/2017 21:56

Love my Pandora ring (with my birthstone) and my Radley handbag.

Apologies that I don't have the resources to design my own unique jewellery or handbags

oldlaundbooth · 27/11/2017 21:57

It's shit is Pandora.

Justoneme · 27/11/2017 21:59

I don't understand either ... I think they are tacky.

Fosterdog123 · 27/11/2017 22:12

Gazelda - please say you take it off at work then? I bet your colleagues are plotting and scheming for you to meet a grisly end are really frustrated listening to you clunking on your desk all day otherwise.

Lewwat · 27/11/2017 22:22

Nice to know that lots of you snobby judgy fucks are sneering at my arm as I jangle my way around.

Gazelda · 27/11/2017 22:24

Foster yes, I take it off! Which has caused probs in the past when I’ve accidentally left it in my drawer then get faced with an inquisition at home about ‘have I lost it?’, ‘is the catch loose?’ Etc. Sigh ...

Animation86 · 27/11/2017 22:26

I used to be a Links fan for a while, well past when the sweetie bracelet fad was over. Sadly they dropped the ball and I’m not into their ranges anymore.

I only went for pandora when I saw the frozen charms last year in Vegas. I wouldn’t say the quality is better than Links but it’s fine and will stand it’s test of time. To be fair nothings chipped off my bracelet but the paint has come off some of my Links ones . Thomas Sabo is terrible quality IMO.

I like the idea of building unique bracelets , personal to you.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 27/11/2017 22:44

I honestly think not liking them is very different to sneering at someone wearing it!

They're not my thing, but I don't care what jewelry other people wear one jot! I don't think I ever even notice it.

londonrach · 27/11/2017 22:50

Yanbu. They used to sell well second hand on local fb sites but notice now they struggle to sell now so less popular.
