to think we've reached peak gin?

Was at the country living Christmas Fair today which was lovely. Didn't buy much but lots and lots of lovely ideas for gifts and the home.

There were at least 10 stands with gin - artisan gin, seaweed gin, infused gin, orange gin, every kind of gin you can think of. Over the last year gin has become super-trendy and there are SO many distillers and retailers that they can't possibly all survive, can they? AIBU to expect that the gin bubble will burst and disappear in a cloud of tonic?

And what's the next "big thing"?

I’m 33, and 10 years ago I always got laughed at for ordering a gin and tonic on a night out! I used to get told it was an old ladies drink.
Anyway I love gin, but it’s everywhere now. My favourite is G’vine gin with Fentimans tonic.

jay55 · 25/11/2017 17:55

There is g&t flavoured popcorn out so yes we are at peak gin.

Atalune · 25/11/2017 17:55

Gin and prosecco are so over!

It’s all about the sherry on ice.

lettuceWrap · 25/11/2017 17:58

Gin is ok I suppose, but Potato Vodka, is where it’s at imo.

Sisinisawa · 25/11/2017 17:59

I want golden rum to be the next thing because I love it but it's hard to find.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/11/2017 18:01

Schadenfreude's Artisanal Hand-Crafted 200% Proof Mortificadan Beetroot and Potato Gin (By Appointment to The Mortifciadan Monarchy)

You can't miss the bottle -the label is tastefully designed in plain red and yellow - nothing gaudy - with the Mortificadan Royal Family's Crest (Two Dragons Rampant dismembering a Legfish while being mobbed by a Screech of Harpies, on a background of Argent et Gules).

It doesn't get any better than this!

FergalBurgal · 25/11/2017 18:03

Yes yes to the golden rum!!

LunasSpectreSpecs · 25/11/2017 18:04

How much, Shadenfreude? I'll take a case.

If the gin bubble is about to burst, who's going to tell Toby Fairbrother?

wowfudge · 25/11/2017 18:06

I reckon sherry is due a revival next, which I don't mind - there's something for everyone and you can snack with it too.

Oysterbabe · 25/11/2017 18:08

I want a gin so bad 😣
22 days until due date.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 25/11/2017 18:12

You won't live to regret it Lunas.

Just pop the money into a plain brown envelope and leave it behind the hot water pipes in the ladies' lavvy on the second floor of The Manchester Moustache Museum. You'll find a key there. Take it to the Left Luggage Office and you will find the gin there.

MrsArthurShappey · 25/11/2017 18:14

emmagrundy Shock hello! Have you ever ventured onto the serial Archers threads on radio addicts?

HoneyDragon · 25/11/2017 18:15

I’m finding it harder and harder to get Tizer Sad. Can that make a come back please?

Glitteryfrog · 25/11/2017 18:17

So what's next ladies so we can get in ahead of the curve? Tequila? Rum? Advocaat?

I think artisan Rhum. We were talking about this the other day.

fussychica · 25/11/2017 18:23

Bone dry, ice cold sherry is lush , especially on a sultry evening, served with lightly roasted almonds on the side. Mmmm.

Just wish I'd bought shares in Fevertree when it was first available. I would have been rather well off by now. Stupid womanConfused

LoniceraJaponica · 25/11/2017 18:27

Yes to sherry. I am avant garde as I have liked sherry for ages. A good amontillado is lush. Not so keen on the bone dry sherries though. I am a bit of a pleb.

WellTidy · 25/11/2017 18:27

I think I'm just dye a change of gin. Been drinking Bombay sapphire, Williams or tanqueray for ages and now need something new.

Any recommendations?

I am a disaronno lover, with one cube of ice. Also quite partial to a tia Maria.

GrimDamnFanjo · 25/11/2017 18:28

Mmmm I like an ice cold dry sherry too.
I confess to 3 bottles of gin at home.

DorisDangleberry · 25/11/2017 18:29

Last time I reached peak gin I had to spend two days in bed recovering

Oysterbabe · 25/11/2017 18:29

Actually can port and stiltons be next? I love port. I can imagine ordering port with a couple of stilton cubes on the side in some hipster bar.

insancerre · 25/11/2017 18:32

I think the next big thing is going to be red wine and coke
I've never had it but I do love a sweet martini and coke

werewolfhowls · 25/11/2017 18:33

There was an advert for gin and tonic baps on TV yesterday. The world has gorn mad.

Yes to tia Maria

I quite like him but my favourite is the Plymouth Gin Navy strength. Perhaps the next craze will be a red wine
