to let you know how men use the Equality Act to undermine women's spaces

This is Liam. Liam was a 17-year-old Harry Potter fan (photo here from his Twitter).

twitter.com/iamLilyTM/status/639376063655739392

Liam doesn't appear to have too much interest in running, but nonetheless got very upset that there are women-only runs, in addition to the thousands that are open to men.

He thinks this is similar to apartheid, or Rosa Parks being told to go to the back of the bus. twitter.com/iamLilyTM/status/637324189733666816 (August 2015)

Being kept out annoys Liam. (And a lot of other MRAs alike who get REALLY angry at not being allowed to join, despite their being literally thousands of other places to run.)

But wait! An idea! If Liam says he is a girl, he will be able to go wherever he likes including all those women-only runs he was so cruelly rebuffed from.

After all, at one time the Race for Life was able to be kept relatively man-free, as Cancer Research said:

<a class="break-all" href="https://web.archive.org/web/20120528181520/raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/utilities/faqs/who-can-enter/index.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">web.archive.org/web/20120528181520/raceforlife.cancerresearchuk.org/utilities/faqs/who-can-enter/index.html

"Under the Gender Recognition Act 2004 we are happy to accept entries from individuals who possess a female birth certificate or gender recognition certificate. However, as Race for Life is a female-only event we have a promise and responsibility to our female supporters to ensure our Race for Life events are represented by women only. Therefore, if you do not have either a gender recognition certificate or a female birth certificate, we are afraid you will not be able to participate in Race for Life. "

But this didn't last long! The Equality Act 2010 came along and it said

"A person has the protected characteristic of gender reassignment if the person is proposing to undergo, is undergoing or has undergone a process [of changing gender]". So anyone who is even THINKING about changing gender is protected, and you better be careful about crossing them.

So Raceforlife quickly deleted the requirement for a GRC, and just to confirm this.

twitter.com/CharlotteMedler/status/604486954785357824

"Hey @raceforlife what is your opinion on pre-op women running? Does having a wang mean I can't do it? Let me know, pls."

The reply:
"hello, transgender women are welcome to take part in our events, so we'd love to have you :)"

Message has got through loud and clear to Liam, a few months later Liam says he is a girl called Lily (this declaration isn't really accompanied by any action, though he has had one Gender clinic appointment, where he got some handouts about hormones).

He tells his school. Some people, including his younger sister, are unhappy about his behaviour.

But not to worry, he looks up 'solicitor' on Google, and finds a firm of solicitor who represent teenage Harry Potter fans wanting access to women & girls spaces, completely for free! www.buzzfeed.com/patrickstrudwick/this-trans-teen-threatened-her-school-with-legal-action-to-w Awesome! Free lawyers!Totally no consequences!

Emboldened, he moves on, with his MRA activity, getting a woman kicked kicked out of a neighbouring constituency Labour party:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5087503/All-Labour-officials-local-committee-resign.html

Then he's elected women's officer in his own CLP.

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/trans-teenager-lily-madigan-voted-in-as-a-labour-women-s-officer-mwchkhzq8

Then people point out that he seems to own a Twitter account with blowjob, rape, Jimmy Savile & curry jokes. He says it's fake then it's pointed out it's dated 2013 so unlikely to be, and finally he blames his younger brother for the acocunt and says his family is racist, sexist and homophobic and that's why he has moved on from them.

www.kentlive.news/news/kent-news/transgender-labour-womens-officer-rochester-817234

Said brother is not impressed and calls him out publicly for throwing him under the bus

twitter.com/madigan_smurf/status/933760359810428928

Lily/Liam is a big fan of Jeremy Corbyn, who for his own part has said that, as a genuine 100% authentic transwoman, Lily/Liam can do whatever he wants. www.facebook.com/MedwayLabour/posts/1506650112756340

As if all these weren't enough, he's now being sponsored for a Women in Leadership programme in by Tris Osborne, a (male, natch) Labour candidate in Luton. twitter.com/cllrtrisosborne/status/934368405993508864

Rosa Parks eat your heart out eh? Look who's got the last laugh now! Silly women wanting a race without men in it!

Pisa, that’s a truly excellent summary, thank you.

I didn’t think this boy could piss me off more, but that picture of him at Reclaim the Night has made me even more furious. It’s all about proving he can do whatever the fuck he wants, isn’t it.

PovertyPain · 25/11/2017 23:12

Fritz, has he any Young females in the family, that her cares about? I was discussing this nonsense with a client tonight and he said he doesn't really care, until I pointed out that of course he doesn't care, because it is disproportionately affecting women. He has an 11yr old son and I pointed out that, with the new identification laws being proposed that his boy will not be permitted to refuse to share a toilet with a tif, that he will not be able to ask for a male doctor, if he's having an intimate exam, and be guaranteed that the person examining his bits is a real male. He was horrified and suddenly very interested in what I had to say.

FritzDonovan · 25/11/2017 23:12

^ a very common trait in (biological) men, I'm beginning to realise!

PovertyPain · 25/11/2017 23:24

The fucking irony.

And here's Lily's handmaiden, reminding us that our Feminism must be intersectional or it will be bullshit.

James Comey @ Comey
“Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.” - Thomas Jefferson, Jan. 28, 1786

A timely reminder. Apologies to those who have seen me post this elsewhere. I thought it valuable and important enough to do so, and remind as many people as possible about this and what it means to be liberal and believe in liberalism.

FritzDonovan · 26/11/2017 01:02

poverty yes, we have two late primary aged DC, one of each biological sex, although he agrees with me on specific instances (eg it's not right having a penis in the women's changing room we may be using, past small DC with mums, of course), the wider picture seems to elude him. Largely, I suspect, because he's not interested as it doesn't affect him. I'm sure he told me when asked why he cares so much for gay rights and not women's rights, he said something along the lines of because he's not a woman. But the gay rights he defended were right/fair or something. Tbh I may have misquoted that because it didn't make sense to me when he said it, and his mix of hypocritical uninformed BS had been winding me up for a few days already.

MistressDeeCee · 26/11/2017 01:06

Interesting post and thread. I managed to wade through it, despite reaching peak trans weeks ago.

The only thing that will stop Lily and her activist ilk in their tracks, is straight men turning on them en masse.

It won't be anything that women do, that will highlight the audacity of this. Women are simply easier to bully, scapegoat, intimidate. This is all a men's game, with socialised male privilege trampling all over women.

Not to mention that misogynistic men who have fuck all going for them, can barnstorm womens' spaces and get the adulation and attention they crave. I should think they get off on knowing how galling they are, to some women.

Lily probably found it hilariously satisfying to know a woman was kicked out of a job, to be replaced by him. & I will say him not her, because Lily is a man using male privilege to coerce and dictate to women.

The male gaze is what they ultimately want, and they want to replace and subjugate and pretend to be us to get it. We're just hated pawns in the game.

I have American friends and was only recently raising a brow at a long discussion re (some) transwomen there calling "discrimination!" at straight men who prefer not to date transwomen.

Lily and her ilk must be a total nightmare for transwomen who've been getting on with their lives for years, and are now seeing all this angst being stirred up

I hope the Lily lot do get what they want, actually. I hope they do very much attract the attention of straight men. I very much doubt it'll be in the form they want or expect though. I think they'll get kicked to fuck, and it will serve them right. Give it time.

pamish · 26/11/2017 01:20

Lily didn't take a woman's job, they just joined in the harassment of a women's officer at another constituency. She ended up resigning and all her party officers resigned with her.

Lily was voted in by their party members, 44 to 40. Don't know the sex of the voters.

pisacake · 26/11/2017 01:34

To be clear Lily explicitly demanded that said woman's officer be sacked:

twitter.com/sargesalute/status/934581087627563008

He took the job of a woman in that there was a female candidate who was qualified to do it.

Seriously, this is a bit of an out there idea but Owen Jones needs Jefferson quotes spammed at him.

One of the things that needs to be done here is to have some sort of counter to the soundbites of thought ending clichés like transform are women.

One problem here is feminists arguments are often too long and logical to make that initial cut through. You want to get at this heart of illiberalism to get people thinking again as a lot of support for trans right activists comes from creating this idea that to be liberal you must support TRAs no matter how insane what they are advocating in practice.

Here are a few examples:

It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself.

And another

When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty.

And

He who knows best knows how little he knows

And

I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery.

And

Man once surrendering his reason, has no remaining guard against absurdities the most monstrous, and like a ship without rudder, is the sport of every wind. With such persons, gullibility, which they call faith, takes the helm from the hand of reason, and the mind becomes a wreck.

And

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual

People have forgotten what being liberal actually means.

RedToothBrush · 26/11/2017 02:00

If this, however is a shit idea, in my defence it's 2am and I'm slightly crackers.

FritzDonovan · 26/11/2017 04:28

red, I fully endorse the twitter spamming of argumentative/ignorant twats. Give me a list Grin

I don't give a fuck about politics. Im concerned about men in invasion of women's spaces and that doesn't only happen in political circles does it. There's a politics section on here but I guess you won't go there as you want to detail this thread. All that goady "OP sounds left" stuff..who knows who cares it's hardly the point is it

Surely in a fair society there are no restrictions on race, colour or creed. I can understand the point in having safe spaces for vulnerable people (elderly, abused, homeless etc) but if you get too politically correct this is the result..

I support the right of women to not have men in dresses in their toilets and changing rooms, just as I support the right for people to choose not to have certain races, colour or creeds in their space if that's what they want. I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't.
Pardon nationalist? You support black only' or 'white only' spaces? Confused
Not the same as not wanting a penis in a women only job/space/etc, surely?

The 'black' vs 'white' arguments can't be used as a comparison in this issue because black/white skinned people do not have a chromosome making them different in this phenotype. They are genetically indistinguishable - unlike male/female.

counterpoint · 26/11/2017 06:20

What has Jo Cox's husband said on this matter?

Not sure how it's different? You're an excluding an entire group of people based on physical characteristics.

Riiight. So if I (as a white biological woman) want to self identify as a black man without making any physical changes at all, I should expect to be fully accepted as a black man in any areas solely populated by black men! Oh yeah, can see that happening!
And before you jump in, I'm only using the man/woman black/white example because you used it in your 'argument'. So no accusations of racism please.
